Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to collaboratively design eight professional dress ensembles incorporating Hejazi tribal embroidery and to evaluate Saudi female academics’ perceptions about those ensembles as appropriate for professional attire. The concept aimed to offer the potential for increased cultural identity by wearing modernized ethnic dress as everyday workplace attire that was relatively practical, affordable and expressive of Saudi cultural identity.
Design/methodology/approach
The goal in this research was to engage Saudi female academic professionals in designing clothing that integrated Saudi textile and costume traditions into contemporary styles appropriate for the academic work environment. Two models guided the research. The FEA model (Lamb and Kallal, 1992) was used to organize the questions in the survey questionnaire around an integration of culture with functional, aesthetic and expressive aspects of apparel. The second model guiding the research was an adaptation of the USAP participatory co-design model (Demirbilek and Demirkan, 2004). This model was used to engage study participants in the design process.
Findings
Qualitative results showed that participants were willing to wear the garments in this study, as the garments represented heritage, looked contemporary in terms of style lines, had comfort and interchangeable garment components, embroidery and printed fabric, fabric used in garment designs and color. Quantitative results showed that the ratings for the final garments were generally higher than the first sketches in the first phase. Results of the eight designs in the collection revealed that the aesthetic aspect was the most referenced by the participants among the FEA aspects. Results also indicated that silver waves design received the highest rating among the designs in terms of FEA aspects.
Originality/value
This research provides greater understanding of the ethnic culture of the Western region of Saudi Arabia for Western scholars. Previous research has indicated an interest in having garment manufacturing take place in Saudi Arabia (Turkustani, 1995). Findings from this research may lead to future study on the state of apparel production in Saudi Arabia and the potential feasibility of establishing a center for training in digital technology to support small business opportunities for Saudi women who are trained for work in the apparel industry.

Shang, (from which Qun evolved), came into being before Ku, and was used to cover the lower body. Combined with the upper garment Yi, Ku and Shang constituted a complete outfit in the traditional Chinese clothing system. This article briefly describes the development and evolution of Chinese Ku. It postulates that the opening and closing rise of Ku, was a metaphor for the spirit and the cultivation of Chinese literati. Qun, as a kind of lower cover, was actually unable to cover the body completely. Ku, the Chinese trousers for protection of legs, covered the lower limbs, but was not adopted by the Chinese literati in ancient times. Therefore, half-openness of the skirt and half-closeness of the rise of Ku, metaphorically representing half fantasy and half reality, were combined to complete the covering. This system for covering the body with a clothing combination that was partly open (thus exposing parts of the body) reveals an interesting aspect of Chinese traditional culture. Contemporary designers may find unique inspiration through the study of Chinese traditional clothing systems, for current fashion designs that have rich historical significance.

Abstract
Knowledge of how social movements move, diffuse, and expand collective action events is central to movement scholarship and activist practice. Our purpose is to extend sociological knowledge about how movements (sometimes) diffuse and amplify insurgent actions, that is, how movements move. We extend movement diffusion theory by drawing a conceptual analogue with military theory and practice applied to the case of the organized and highly disciplined nonviolent Nashville civil rights movement in the late 1950s and early 1960s. We emphasize emplacement in a base-mission extension model whereby a movement base is built in a community establishing a social movement school for inculcating discipline and performative training in cadre who engage in insurgent operations extended from that base to outlying events and campaigns. Our data are drawn from secondary sources and semi-structured interviews conducted with participants of the Nashville civil rights movement. The analytic strategy employs a variant of the “extended case method,” where extension is constituted by movement agents following paths from base to outlying campaigns or events. Evidence shows that the Nashville movement established an exemplary local movement base that led to important changes in that city but also spawned traveling movement cadre who moved movement actions in an extensive series of pathways linking the Nashville base to events and campaigns across the southern theater of the civil rights movement. We conclude with theoretical and practical implications.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) efforts at Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) John D. MacArthur Campus Library (JDM) to share methodologies and ideas with other academic libraries. Recently, there has been an emphasis on and push for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in colleges and universities across the USA as a means for training future work forces and for remaining competitive in global job markets (Land, 2013). FAU in South Florida is a big proponent of STEM and STEAM education (Florida Atlantic University, 2012; Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, 2013).
Design/methodology/approach
As many librarians and outreach staff strive to remain relevant to their faculty and students with changing technologies (Drewes and Hoffman, 2010), the FAU JDM outreach staff have developed several novel programs that are geared toward the STEAM initiative.
Findings
The Library Outreach Committee at FAU was committed to investigating how they could advance student success through visual arts programming. How can the library help contribute to STEAM education for the students and learning community as a whole? How can the library engage art students? Can the library promote dialogue in arts to the faculty and staff, regardless of their disciplines? This article will describe and discuss the various art outreach programs that the JDM has tested and their outcomes addressing goals toward STEAM education and academic libraries.
Originality/value
The objective in sharing the experiences at the JDM is to spark new and successful program ideas at other academic libraries across the country and abroad and create knowledge in this relatively new area.

Abstract
The field of behavioral business ethics has come a long way since its inception nearly five decades ago. Pioneered in part in response to a number of high-profile corporate scandals, the early field of business ethics was thought by many to be a fad that would recede along with the salience of the scandals of the day. Yet, this could not have been further from the truth. The need for behavioral business ethics research remains ever-present, as evidenced by the sustained number of scandals and unethical behavior within and by organizations. Moreover, research in this area has burgeoned. In the 1980s, only 54 articles had been published on this topic (Tenbrunsel & Smith-Crowe, 2008); today, a similar search yields over 3,000 “hits.” In light of the area’s growth, we suggest the need to take a look back at the seminal work that sparked social scientific work in the field. In particular, this chapter has two main objectives. First, we provide a review of select foundational work. In so doing, we identify some of the key trends that characterized early knowledge development in the field. Second, we draw on this historical context to consider how past trends relate to current work and speak to future research opportunities.

In late 2020, a group of librarians at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) came together to pursue the design of a diversity audit for monograph collections. After initial research and reflection, the authors realized that evaluating their existing collection on its racial or ethnic representation would not only be problematic, but also unnecessary, because it was clear to the authors that their collections are dominated by white voices and perspectives. How could they be otherwise? They were built for a primarily white audience as part of a system of knowledge production dominated by whiteness. The authors questioned whether the framework of a “diversity audit” really addressed their goal of a systematic anti-racist approach to collections management. This chapter details the authors’ process of rejecting the diversity audit framework for a large-scale review of monographs in a large academic library collection in the United States. It reviews the literature regarding diversity audits, as well as background on whiteness studies, as it leads to the authors’ rationale for instead developing a workbook for collection selectors. This workbook will position collection management practices within the white institutional presence (WIP) conceptual framework developed by scholar Diane Gusa (2010).

Questions about the role and composition of the middle class have been examined and debated in the academy and in the political sphere for more than 100 years. In analyses of the Indian middle class specifically, two questions, both addressed by Diane Davis, seem to excite the most attention. The first has to do with the definition of a middle class, a term that has its origins in a very different social formation as well as its potentially mediating function in democracy. Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this research is to explore the relationship between green job positions and descriptions, green performance management, green employee relations with job pursuit intentions and the role of employers’ prestige as the mediator.
Design/methodology/approach
A survey research design with a sample of 216 undergraduate specialising in the business fields from Malaysian private higher education institutions responded to the questionnaire, while purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques were used in order to determine the research sample. Data for the research were collected from the target participants via questionnaires and Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS), while partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) via Smart-PLS was utilized to test the developed hypotheses of the research.
Findings
The results showed that only green employee relations has a significant relationship with job pursuit intentions out of the three direct hypotheses. As a result of assessing the mediating hypotheses, employers’ prestige mediates the effect of green job positions and descriptions and green employee relations on job pursuit intentions. Conversely, green performance management did not support the mediating association.
Practical implications
This research recommended practitioners to adopt green HRM fundamentals to enhance EP, which results in JPI. Also, the research aids managers and practitioners by providing the outlook of green HRM from a job seeker’s perspective, which can embolden the managers and practitioners in planning a systematic human resource.
Originality/value
The study contributes by enriching the literature concerning the dimensions of green HRM, which is an emergent topic in the human resource field. Furthermore, the study advances by proposing GER in the research framework.

Abstract
Purpose
International and national education policy identifies the need for young people to develop knowledge and understanding of sustainability and to use this knowledge for positive action. This paper reflects on a larger curriculum investigation project that used the Curriculum Design Coherence (CDC) Model with in-service teachers as a professional learning framework to engage their learners with sustainability in geography education. This paper outlines the diffractive insights of two teacher educators, making sense of our contribution to the project in order to explicitly discern our roles.
Design/methodology/approach
Our enquiry is situated within the participatory paradigm in which we recognise the roles of teachers and teacher educators are entangled in the co-production of knowledge.
Findings
We find that curriculum design, with its focus on disciplinary knowledge is an important aspect of curriculum coherence in relation to the concept of sustainability. Significantly informed collaboration between teachers and teacher-educators enriches professional learning through engagement with both research materials and conceptually informed dialogues.
Practical implications
We conclude that more research on the role of teacher knowledge with practitioners, is needed to enable professional empowerment so that in turn young people can become informed and critical citizens.
Originality/value
This paper draws on a posthumanist philosophy and a diffractive methodology to make explicit the epistemic role of the teacher educator in a climate change and sustainability education project.
