Abstract
Purpose
Oppositional organizational identities are fraught with conflict and often evoke powerful social and cultural identities. Such identities may be a divisive force among consumers. The purpose of this paper is to understand how consumers construct frames that facilitate identification with oppositional organizational identities.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors use online reviews from TripAdvisor.com and Yelp.com of the Creation Museum in Kentucky, USA. The Creation Museum is an ideal research context due to its location within American public discourse regarding religion and science. Through a grounded theory approach of the reviews, the authors propose three identity frames.
Findings
The data suggest that consumers primarily construct three frames to identify with the Creation Museum: transformational experiences, interpretive bricolage and oppositional scripts. Together, these frames engender resonance and facilitate consumer identification.
Originality/value
This paper is one of the first to examine how oppositional organizational identities garner consumer support. Given that consumers are increasingly attentive to organizational processes and the ubiquity of information technology, which reduces the costs of information and interaction, the study provides a much more holistic perspective on oppositional organizational identity and offers a multitude of future avenues for further research.

Abstract
The concept of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) attracts considerable attention in the organizational literature. Focusing on issues related to measurement of EO and using a three-pronged framework to organize the growing diversity of EO measures, the authors conduct a systematic literature review on how EO is captured and assessed in the empirical literature. Specifically, the authors classify 551 empirical works according to the approach to measurement (i.e., managerial perceptions, content analysis, and resource allocations) which allows the authors to document and critically analyze prevalent measurement practices within the literature. Based on the synthesis, the authors identify key measurement-related tensions that may inhibit cumulative knowledge development in the area of EO, such as ad hoc modification of seminal scales and lack of theoretical clarity with respect to measurement. Additionally, the authors find that research into the antecedents of EO as well as causality and temporality of the phenomenon is underdeveloped, which the authors attribute to scarce use of mixed methods. The authors conclude chapter by discussing the challenges involved in measuring EO and offering possible recommendations for future inquiry.

Abstract
The overall goal of science is to build a valid and reliable body of knowledge about the functioning of the world and how applying that knowledge can change it. As personnel and human resources management researchers, we aim to contribute to the respective bodies of knowledge to provide both employers and employees with a workable foundation to help with those problems they are confronted with. However, what research on research has consistently demonstrated is that the scientific endeavor possesses existential issues including a substantial lack of (a) solid theory, (b) replicability, (c) reproducibility, (d) proper and generalizable samples, (e) sufficient quality control (i.e., peer review), (f) robust and trustworthy statistical results, (g) availability of research, and (h) sufficient practical implications. In this chapter, we first sing a song of sorrow regarding the current state of the social sciences in general and personnel and human resources management specifically. Then, we investigate potential grievances that might have led to it (i.e., questionable research practices, misplaced incentives), only to end with a verse of hope by outlining an avenue for betterment (i.e., open science and policy changes at multiple levels).

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the combinations of internal and external knowledge flows between research and development (R&D) incumbents and start-ups in the context of open innovation. While there is a growing body of knowledge that has examined how, in a knowledge economy, a firm’s knowledge and innovation activities are closely linked, there is no systematic review available of the key antecedents, perspectives, phenomenon and outcomes of knowledge spillovers.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors have conducted dual-stage research. First, the authors conducted a systematic review of literature (97 research articles) by following the theories–contexts–methods framework and the antecedent-phenomenon-outcomes logic. The authors identified the key theories, contexts, methods, antecedents, phenomenon and outcomes of knowledge spillovers between R&D-driven incumbents and start-ups in the open innovation context. In the second stage, the findings of stage one were leveraged to advance a nomological network that depicts the strength of the relationship between the observable constructs that emerged from the review.
Findings
The findings demonstrate how knowledge spillovers can help incumbent organisations and start-ups to achieve improved innovation capabilities, R&D capacity, competitive advantage and the creation of knowledge ecosystems leading to improved firm performance. This study has important implications for practitioners and managers – it provides managers with important antecedents of knowledge spillover (knowledge capacities and knowledge types), which directly impact the R&D intensity and digitalisation driving open innovation. The emerging network showed that the antecedents of knowledge spillovers have a direct relationship with the creation of a knowledge ecosystem orchestrated by incumbents and that there is a very strong influence of knowledge capacities and knowledge types on the selection of external knowledge partners/sources.
Practical implications
This study has important implications for practitioners and managers. In particular, it provides managers with important antecedents of knowledge spillover (knowledge capacities and knowledge types), which directly impact the R&D intensity and digitalisation driving open innovation. This will enable managers to take important decisions about what knowledge capacities are required to achieve innovation outcomes. The findings suggest that managers of incumbent firms should be cautious when deciding to invest in knowledge sourcing from external partners. This choice may be driven by the absorptive capacity of the incumbent firm, market competition, protection of intellectual property and public policy supporting innovation and entrepreneurship.
Originality/value
Identification of the key antecedents, phenomenon and outcomes of knowledge spillovers between R&D-driven incumbents and start-ups in the open innovation context. The findings from Stage 1 helped us to advance a nomological network in Stage 2, which identifies the strength and influence of the various observable constructs (identified from the review) on each other. No prior study, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, has advanced a nomological network in the context of knowledge spillovers between R&D-driven incumbents and start-ups in the open innovation context.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of the paper is to analyze the impact of involuntary frugality and deliberate frugality on the household intentions to adopt energy-efficient and energy-generating products. Additionally, the study aims to explore the role of motivation to save as a mediating factor between different types of frugality and the adoption of different kinds of energy products.
Design/methodology/approach
The study involved a survey of 413 households, gathering information through questionnaires from both tier I and tier II urban areas in India. The investigation used confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling with Amos to explore the impact of frugality and also mediating impacts of motivation to save on the correlation between different forms of frugality (involuntary and deliberate) and the desire to acquire energy-efficient and energy-producing goods. This methodology facilitated a thorough examination of how various levels of frugality impact the uptake of sustainable energy solutions, with a specific emphasis on the fundamental motivational drivers behind these choices.
Findings
The study uncovers specific connections between various forms of frugality and the desire to embrace energy-efficient and energy-producing items. Unintentional frugality, characterized by sensitivity to prices, is shown to have a positive correlation with the adoption of energy-efficient devices but a negative association with the intention to adopt energy-generating products. Conversely, intentional frugality, distinguished by deliberate reduction actions, positively impacts the inclination to adopt both energy-efficient and energy-generating products. The results suggest that the mediating impact of motivation for savings varies depending on the type of frugality and the class of energy products being considered, emphasizing the subtle ways in which frugality influences sustainable consumption behaviors.
Research limitations/implications
The contrasting effects of involuntary and voluntary frugality on the adoption of energy-efficient versus energy-generating products highlight the need to explore the underlying psychological and economic mechanisms. Future research should investigate the factors influencing the preferences of price-sensitive and deliberate frugal consumers towards this energy-efficient and energy-generating products.
Social implications
Policymakers should develop specific subsidies and financial strategies for low-income households and incentive programs for conscientious consumers. Educational campaigns emphasizing the benefits of energy-generating goods and creating incentive structures with tax advantages, refunds and financial aid are essential. Companies should continue to emphasize cost savings for energy-efficient appliances and consider leasing or instalment plans for energy-generating products to appeal to price-sensitive consumers.
Originality/value
Literature shows that 82% of Indians prefer frugality to conserve energy through reduced consumption. However, consumer motivations for frugality vary. This study analyses the distinct impacts of involuntary and voluntary frugality on adopting energy-efficient and energy-generating products, offering a nuanced understanding of consumer behavior in sustainability—a topic underexplored in existing research. Additionally, this study investigates the role of the motivation to save as a mediator between frugality and energy product adoption, providing a novel perspective on how different frugality motivations influence different category of energy products.
