Abstract
Electronic vs. print. Access vs. ownership. Real vs. virtual. Libraries have moved from a posture of building collections to one of developing and managing them, and are now focusing much of their attention and resources on accessing them. These collections can be owned or not, in electronic format or print, and may be used but not kept or recorded in any way. As librarians move through this transitional state, they will need to seek the best balance or trade‐offs between amounts or types of resources they can provide for their users.
