Abstract
Purpose
The fundamental component of Confucian culture is clan culture, which stresses that family ties are the most important of all social relationships and have an essential impact on the governance model of family firms in Southeast Asian countries, especially in China. This study investigates complex relationships among family firm succession and corporate governance reform in the context of Chinese clan culture.
Design/methodology/approach
Drawing upon the analysis of altruistic behavior and conflict in succession process in family firm, the study uses a moderation model to capture the relationships between succession and governance reform in the context of clan culture. This study conducts an empirical study on 295 Chinese listed family firms that initiated intergenerational succession from 2008 to 2018 to test the model.
Findings
The empirical results suggest that the different stages of the succession will positively affect the family firm's governance reform, whether it is the stage in which the successor takes over the firm or the stage in which the successor completely controls the firm. Furthermore, the succession-governance reform relationship is negatively moderated by the clan concept of the actual controller.
Originality/value
This paper fulfills an identified need to study how succession in the family firm can accelerate corporate governance reform (transition from relation-based governance to rule-based governance). The research results provide evidence from the firm-level under the Chinese clan culture context to understand the complex relationship between succession and corporate governance.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to research knowledge-sharing behavior and social capital from a pedagogical perspective. It explores the facilitating role of face-to-face and online interactions in social capital development to understand how the formation of a specific form of social capital nurtures knowledge-sharing behaviors.
Design/methodology/approach
A qualitative approach used interviews and a focus group to collect data from 20 teachers in different positions and subject areas.
Findings
For face-to-face interactions to form social capital, learning communities must develop features including shared vision, shared language, trust-building and self-development and foster identification with and commitment to the community. Of all the categories of pedagogical content knowledge exchanged among teachers, teachers seek knowledge of general pedagogy, representations and strategies and knowledge of curriculum and media more than any others. However, when differentiating between online and face-to-face activities, knowledge of the curriculum and media is sought more frequently online. In contrast, the preferred way of learning about general pedagogy is through face-to-face activities. The choice of knowledge channel reflects the complexity of the types of knowledge needed and the type of social ties required to support this exchange.
Originality/value
The research is expected to expand understanding of how teachers develop their social capital and how social ties foster knowledge-sharing behaviors. This study suggests professional development activities and online professional learning platforms facilitate building social ties.

Purpose
In recent years, instant messaging platforms like WhatsApp have gained substantial popularity in both academic and practical domains. However, despite this growth, there is a lack of a comprehensive overview of the literature in this field. The primary purpose of this study is to bridge this gap by analyzing a substantial dataset of 12,947 articles retrieved from the Dimensions.ai, database spanning from 2011 to March 2023.
Design/methodology/approach
To achieve the authors' objective, the authors employ bibliometric analysis techniques. The authors delve into various bibliometric networks, including citation networks, co-citation networks, collaboration networks, keywords and bibliographic couplings. These methods allow for the uncovering of the social and conceptual structures within the academic discourse surrounding WhatsApp.
Findings
The authors' analysis reveals several significant findings. Firstly, the authors observe a remarkable and continuous growth in the number of academic studies dedicated to WhatsApp over time. Notably, two prevalent themes emerge: the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the role of WhatsApp in the realm of social media. Furthermore, the authors' study highlights diverse applications of WhatsApp, including its utilization in education and learning, as a communication tool, in medical education, cyberpsychology, security, psychology and behavioral learning.
Originality/value
This paper contributes to the field by offering a comprehensive overview of the scholarly research landscape related to WhatsApp. The findings not only illuminate the burgeoning interest in WhatsApp among researchers but also provide insights into the diverse domains where WhatsApp is making an impact. The analysis of bibliometric networks offers a unique perspective on the social and conceptual structures within this field, shedding light on emerging trends and influential research. This study thus serves as a valuable resource for scholars, practitioners and policymakers seeking to navigate the evolving landscape of WhatsApp research. The study will also be useful for researchers interested in conducting bibliometric analysis using Dimensions.ai, a free database.

Abstract
Purpose
Leadership research is of interest to academics and practitioners in the construction industry. Based on the ego-depletion theory and authentic leadership theory, the current study aims to investigate the impact of women authentic leadership on leaders' emotional exhaustion and job engagement in the construction industry.
Design/methodology/approach
The data were gathered in two waves using a time lag approach. The responses of 276 women leaders-follower dyads from construction firms in China's eastern provinces were analyzed using a moderated mediation model.
Findings
Most of the proposed hypotheses were supported by the findings of this study, which showed that authentic leadership can reduce emotional exhaustion in women leaders and increase work engagement through ego depletion. Furthermore, the leader's sense of belonging, according to this study, moderates the mediating effect of ego depletion.
Research limitations/implications
This study can help managers, policymakers and human resource professionals think about authentic leadership and its impact on women leaders. Furthermore, ego depletion has an impact on the psychological well-being of authentic women leaders. The sense of belongingness of a leader is critical in buffering the negative effects of ego depletion for women in authentic leadership. Thus, women leaders in construction sector should be encouraged to express a sense of belonging to their followers, since this will improve their work engagement and lessen their emotional exhaustion.
Originality/value
This study is unique in that it examines the authentic behavior of women leaders in the Chinese construction sector, which is a challenging profession for women to work in as site managers. This study contributes to the literature on women in leadership by demonstrating how authentic leadership behavior influences the wellbeing and engagement of leaders. In addition, the study indicated that the effect of the mediator (ego depletion) and moderator (leader sense of belongingness) on the relationship between women's authentic leadership and the leader's own psychological wellbeing and job engagement was significant.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of abusive supervision on employees' voice in China's construction industry. Moreover, the authors explore the mediating role of ethics-related self-efficacy and work engagement and the moderating influence of psychological climate in explaining the association between abusive supervision and employee voice behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used data in pairs collected from 402 supervisors and employees of construction companies in Anhui, China. In this study, the authors used the time-lag approach to collect data in three-time waves from different respondents. A structural equation modeling (SEM) approach was applied to test the hypothesized model.
Findings
The results of this study indicate that there is a significant association between abusive supervision and employee voice. Moreover, the results indicated that work engagement mediated the association between abusive supervision and employees' voice. In contrast, self-efficacy did not mediate the link between abusive supervision and employee voice. Furthermore, results also show that the contingent effect of psychological climate significantly influences the mediating effect of work engagement.
Originality/value
This study also has implications for the construction industry, allowing managers to create a favorable working atmosphere in which employees can reinforce their voices at work.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to assess how Sustainable food consumption (SFC) can improve the quality of life for consumers and encourage green food production. Sustainable consumption is an important factor in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations. However, achieving SFC requires government policies, consumer environmental values and accessible channels.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper investigates how to promote SFC intentions using a sample of 386 students from Chinese universities. By using SPSS Process software, this study developed and tested a theoretical model grounded in the stimulus-organism-response (SOR) framework.
Findings
The findings indicate that environmental emotions mediate the relationship between sustainability knowledge and SFC intentions. Contextual factors such as green self-efficacy (GSE) moderate both the direct relationship between environmental emotions and SFC intentions and the indirect relationship between sustainability knowledge and SFC intentions via environmental emotions. The paper continues with a discussion of the findings and their practical implications.
Originality/value
This paper applied the SOR model to the context of students’ sustainability knowledge and SFC intentions. This also presents environmental emotions as a mediation variable, and green self-efficacy as a moderating factor, and constructs the moderated mediation model. This is one of the novel contributions to the literature on SFC intentions and sustainability knowledge.

Purpose
Previous studies have produced mixed findings regarding the relationship between social networking site (SNS) use and psychological outcomes. To provide new evidence on this relationship, this study investigates the influence of SNS involvement on psychological outcomes. This study also examines the moderating role of information sharing on the link between SNS involvement and relationship quality and that between SNS involvement and social life satisfaction.
Design/methodology/approach
This study investigates a sample of 383 Facebook users in Vietnam. Structural equation modeling is performed to test the theoretical model and research hypotheses.
Findings
Results show that SNS involvement positively influences information sharing, relationship quality and social life satisfaction. In addition, information sharing positively affects relationship quality, which in turn is positively related to social life satisfaction. Moreover, information sharing positively moderates the link between SNS involvement and relationship quality but negatively moderates that between SNS involvement and social life satisfaction.
Originality/value
This study sheds a new light on the effect of SNS involvement on psychological outcomes. Specifically, the findings of this study help clarify the influence of SNS involvement on social life satisfaction. Furthermore, this study provides evidence on the moderating mechanism of information sharing on the link between SNS involvement and psychological outcomes. The findings can help SNS users and administrators make better decisions in their SNS engagement.
