Abstract
This study investigates the way in which acquisition-related human factors affect knowledge transfer in the context of Chinese cross-border M&A for strategic assets. The authors find that the process of knowledge transfer is reciprocal for revenue and cost synergies, including explicit and tacit knowledge. The establishment of joint ventures (JV) in China after the takeover boosts product-oriented knowledge transfer from overseas-acquired firms in mature markets to Chinese acquirers. The promotion of overseas synergies stimulates complementary knowledge transfer flow, which is reversely transferred from Chinese acquirers to overseas-acquired subsidiaries such as low-saving sourcing and new market applications. This study identifies three acquisition-related human factors that impact overseas knowledge senders for knowledge transfer. These human factors are implemented by Chinese strategic investors as new shareholders during the loosen integration phase. The first facilitator is all-round communication programs with top management involvement, aiming to build up constructive communication channels to boost knowledge transfer. The second facilitator is competence-based trust, which stimulates cooperation and application based on similar professional competence between Chinese acquirers and their overseas-acquired subsidiaries. The impeder is a high turnover of key skilled workers at Chinese acquirers to undermine the effectiveness of knowledge transfer.

Abstract
Purpose
The residential therapeutic community (TC) treatment modality has been shown to effectively reduce drug use and improve psychiatric/medical health among clients who are often disproportionately impacted by medical conditions and have a co-occurring psychiatric disorder such as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Yet not much is known regarding how clients’ health may impact their treatment satisfaction. Using path analysis, the interrelationship between PTSD, perceived health, and treatment satisfaction was examined. The paper aims to discuss these issues.
Design/methodology/approach
A survey including the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist-Specific (PCL-S), a perceived health rating, and a Treatment Satisfaction Scale was collected from 303 clients at three comparable long-term residential TC treatment programs in New York City.
Findings
Findings indicated that clients with PTSD rated their health significantly worse than those without PTSD. Although no direct relationship between PTSD and treatment satisfaction was found, there was a significant positive correlation between perceived health and treatment satisfaction.
Research limitations/implications
Findings likely constitute a regional sample thus generalizability is limited.
Practical implications
Simultaneously addressing addiction, PTSD, and medical issues can improve clients’ treatment satisfaction, consequently increasing treatment retention and producing greater positive post-treatment outcomes.
Originality/value
Few if any studies have examined the extent to which PTSD and perceived health impact treatment satisfaction within residential substance abuse treatment programs.

Abstract
The upsurge of Chinese and Indian outward foreign direct investment (FDI) raises an unanswered question about locational determinants of direct investment from the two countries. Using an unbalanced bilateral FDI database, we find that Chinese and Indian FDI are attracted to countries with large market size, low GDP growth, high volumes of imports from China or India, and low corporate tax rates. We also find important differences between China and India. While Chinese FDI is drawn to countries with open economic regimes, depreciated host currencies, better institutional environments, and English speaking status, none of these factors are important for Indian FDI. Chinese FDI is also deterred by geographic distance and OCED membership. However, neither of these has any impact on Indian FDI.

This paper aims to discuss the combination of electrospinning and melt blowing in theory, which may be a good way to produce nanofibers.
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, the electrostatic field and the air flow field were numerical simulated and analyzed, the compound field of which was also discussed.
Findings
It is pointed out that the air flow angle will be a key factor to produce nanofibers in the compound process of electrospinning and melt blowing.
Originality/value
The combination of electrostatic force and air drawing force may be a good way to produce nanofibers when the material is high viscosity melt. Air jets with high temperature and high velocity will provide favorable conditions for attenuating the polymer jet. The flow angle of the air jets effect the whole attenuation force exerted to the polymer jet and should be selected properly.

Purpose
University-industry collaboration studies have placed greater emphasis on intrinsic motivators that drive academic researchers to pursue collaboration. This paper explores the relationship between spiritual motivation and collaboration intentions mediated the antecedents of university-level collaboration through theories of self-determination and planned behaviour. This study was conducted to validate the proposed relationship between spirituality and academic researchers in the field of engineering affiliated with higher educational institutions in India.
Design/methodology/approach
This study surveyed 242 participants and utilised structural equation modelling. Research has found that the beneficial relationship between spiritual motivation and collaboration intentions is mediated by attitudes and perceived behavioural control. This study represents a quantitative investigation within the realm of university-industry collaboration, which aims to document the ways in which spiritual motivation can augment collaboration with industry. The study employs self-determination theory and the theory of planned behaviour to elucidate the underlying mechanism to support entrepreneurial debate.
Findings
This study identified attitude and perceived behavioural control as mediators in the relationship between spiritual motivation and collaboration intentions.
Originality/value
The results of this study provide additional support for existing theories and present a diverse perspective on the intrinsic motivation of academic researchers to adopt UIC.

Abstract
Purpose
The continuous advancements in wearable sensing technologies enable the easy collection and publishing of visual lifelog data. The widespread adaptation of visual lifelog technologies would have the potential to pose challenges for ensuring the personal privacy of subjects and bystanders in lifelog data. This paper presents preliminary findings from a study of lifeloggers with the aim of better understanding their concerns regarding privacy in lifelog data.
Design/methodology/approach
In this study, we have collected a visual dataset of 64,837 images from 25 lifelogging participants over a period of two days each, and we conducted an interactive session (face to face conversation) with each participant in order to capture their concerns when sharing the lifelog data across three specified categories (i.e. Private (Only for Me), Semi-Private (Family/Friends) and Public).
Findings
In general, we found that participants tend to err on the side of conservative privacy settings and that there is a noticeable difference in what different participants are willing to share. In summary, we found that the categories of images that the participants wished to be kept private included personally identifiable information and professional information; categories of images that could be shared with family/friends include family moments or content related to daily routine lifestyle, and other visual lifelog data could potentially be made public).
Originality/value
We analysed the potential differences in the willingness of 25 participants to share data. In addition, reasons for being a volunteer to collect lifelog data and how the lifelogging device affected the lifestyle of the lifelogger are analysed. Based on the findings of this study, we propose a set of challenges for the anonymisation of lifelog data that should be solved when supporting lifelog data sharing.

Abstract
Purpose
This study examines the effects of both technological and non-technological innovations on the overall performance of Indian manufacturing firms, and identifies the mediation and synergy effects in the relationship between innovation and performance.
Design/methodology/approach
The study applies the partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) technique using Smart PLS3 on a combined data set from the World Bank Enterprise Survey and the follow-up Innovation Survey for India in 2014. Different newly developed statistical tests [PLS predict, importance performance map analysis (IPMA), multi-group analysis (MGA) and confirmatory tetrad analysis PLS (CTA-PLS)] have been used to check the robustness of the empirical results.
Findings
The results of the study suggest that technological innovations (product and process innovation) significantly affect a firm's overall performance, and that innovation strategy significantly mediates the effects, whereas the effects of non-technological innovations (marketing and organisational innovation) on a firm's performance are fully mediated by innovative performance. IPMA results suggest that technological innovations and their respective strategies are very important in improving a firm's performance, whereas non-technological innovations have great importance for increasing the innovative performance of the firms. The MGA results suggest that there are several distinctions in the path relationship and mediation effect among a firm's segment based on technology intensity and firm size. The study results do not find that innovation types have significant synergy effects on a firm's performance.
Originality/value
The study results suggest that managers should focus on technological innovations, along with their respective strategies to improve the overall performance of a firm, whereas non-technological innovations should be given priority for increasing the firm's innovative performance. Moreover, while making policy regarding innovation the people concerned should bear in mind which segment of the firms they are dealing with, as the effects differ across a firm's technology-intensity and size.
