Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this exploratory and analytical study is to investigate some quality indicators of graduates in business master programmes in Vietnam and the perception gaps of graduate quality if any among the three primary participants in the educational process, e.g. graduate, faculty and employers.
Design/methodology/approach
The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and MANOVA are the two major statistical approaches used for scale purification and data analysis. The population for this study is composed of 460 graduate students and 195 faculty members from 7 main tertiary institutions across Vietnam and 153 employers in Hochiminh City.
Findings
The findings from the study indicate that there are 19 variables which represent the graduate quality in business master programmes in Vietnam. Of the 19 variables, critical analysis, problem‐solving skills, and overall quality of work are the most important indicators. The findings also indicate that there is a significant difference of perception on graduate quality between the three groups surveyed. Research limitations/implications – As far as personal attributes are concerned, such indicators as willingness to learn, enthusiasm, and self‐motivation are rated differently. The similar views as well as the different ones on those variables might serve as points of reference for business schools and employers to update their curriculum and staff development programmes. Such multiple perspectives on graduate quality would also help to raise students' awareness of core skills and competencies needed for their future career.
Practical implications
The research findings are most applicable to business training programmes. For other types of training programmes, further research is to be recommended.
Originality/value
So far, there has not been any empirical research that relates to this issue in Vietnamese case, a special case for the transition process. An investigation into the graduate quality indicators in Vietnam, therefore, is desirable.

Abstract
This chapter summarizes existing empirical literature on German gazelles and draws on a large new sample of high-growth firms for a description of the regional and sectoral distribution of gazelles in Germany. In addition, the regional distribution of gazelles is juxtaposed with the occurrence of regional cluster initiatives. In sum, our results are in line with major former findings. We find gazelles in all sectors and many regions with some specificities for young and urban gazelles. We do not find significantly more gazelles in regions, though, which pursue a targeted cluster policy. Finally and consequently, we call for more granular studies on types and characteristics of gazelles in the future.

Abstract
This chapter addresses the issue of the Global South external debt by mobilizing insights from Modern Monetary Theory, Ecological Economics, and Dependency Theory. It argues that the external debt problem of Southern governments is a reflection of their subordinate economic and monetary status. It shows why the argument of foreign currency shortage often used to explain the need for Southern governments to issue foreign currency debts remains superficial. In contrast to the usual focus on creditors, the chapter highlights the role played by foreign direct investment in the genesis of the chronic external indebtedness of most Southern countries. It argues then that the external debt of the South must be understood holistically not only as a manifestation of the unequal ecological exchange between the North and the South but also as an instrument that has contributed to reproducing and amplifying this pattern. Under these conditions, the cancellation or restructuring of the South's external debt stock and a few other unlikely concessions by the Northern countries will not be enough to abolish the “debt system.” This is an important lesson from the antiimperialist critique of the mid-1970s New International Economic Order (NIEO) agenda that current movements for Southern debt cancellation and Climate Justice would do well to remember.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to reasonably quantify the radial deformation of turbine blade from a probabilistic design perspective. A probabilistic design for turbine blade radial deformation considering non-linear dynamic influences can quantify risk and thus control blade tip clearance to further develop the high performance and high reliability of aeroengine. Moreover, the need for a cost-effective design has resulted in the development of probabilistic design method with high computational efficiency and accuracy to quantify the effects of these uncertainties.
Design/methodology/approach
An extremum response surface method-based support vector machine (SVM-ERSM) was proposed based on SVM of regression to improve the computational efficiency and precision of blade radial deformation dynamic probabilistic design regarding non-linear material properties and dynamically thermal and mechanical loads.
Findings
Through the example calculation and comparison of methods, the results show that the blade radial deformation reaches at the maximum at t = 180 s; the probabilistic distribution and inverse probabilistic features of output parameters and the major factors (rotor speed and gas temperature) are gained; besides, the SVM-ERSM holds high computational efficiency and precision in the non-linear dynamic probabilistic design of aeroengine typical components.
Practical implications
The present efforts provide a method to design turbine besides other aeroengine components considering dynamic and non-linear factors base on probabilistic design for further research.
Social implications
Moreover, the present study provides a way to design dynamic (motion) structures from a probabilistic perspective.
Originality/value
It is proved that the dynamic probabilistic design-based SVM-ERSM could produce a more reasonable blade radial deformation while maintaining low failure probability, as well as offer a useful reference for blade-tip clearance control and a promising insight to the optimal design of aeroengine typical components.

Abstract
We make use of the Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) data to extract the total extent of the roads using remote sensing images. VGI data is often provided only as vector data represented by lines and not as full extent. Also, high geolocation accuracy is not guaranteed and it is common to observe misalignment with the target road segments by several pixels on the images. In this work, we use the prior information provided by the VGI and extract the full road extent even if there is significant mis-registration between the VGI and the image. The method consists of image segmentation and traversal of multiple agents along available VGI information. First, we perform image segmentation, and then we traverse through the fragmented road segments using autonomous agents to obtain a complete road map in a semi-automatic way once the seed-points are defined. The road center-line in the VGI guides the process and allows us to discover and extract the full extent of the road network based on the image data. The results demonstrate the validity and good performance of the proposed method for road extraction that reflects the actual road width despite the presence of disturbances such as shadows, cars and trees which shows the efficiency of the fusion of the VGI and satellite images.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to present a critical interpretation of unfolding events related to corporate and policymaking elites during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic crisis to serve as a point of contrast to mainstream views.
Design/methodology/approach
Drawing upon literature on elite maintenance and power, learning from recent previous crises and emerging evidence during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, this study develops arguments to question and problematize the exercise of power by elites toward maintenance of existing systems across the pandemic.
Findings
Critical examination points attention to three related but analytically distinct strategies in the exercise of elite power: reinforcing myths, redirecting blame and reclaiming positions, all directed to maintain the system and preserve power. The potential effects of this ongoing elite maintenance are highlighted, revealing the old and new forms of power likely to emerge at the corporate, national and global levels across the pandemic crisis and endure beyond it.
Social implications
It is hoped that the critical examination here may build more awareness about the deep and complex nature of elite power and systems across the globe that preclude meaningful system change to address societal challenges. It may thereby provide more informed engagement toward system change.
Originality/value
The main originality of the paper lies in its attempt to tie together the various types of elite maintenance works and their potential effects into an overarching narrative. Making these connections and interpreting them from a critical perspective provides a rare large-canvas picture of elite power and system maintenance, particularly across a global crisis.
