Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to describe an effective method to eliminate or substantially reduce the modulation harmonics due to saturation and inter‐modulation for sensorless speed control induction motor drives at low and zero speed with high loads using artificial neural networks (ANNs).
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, the separation of the saturation signal, the slotting signal, and the inter‐modulation signal components in squirrel cage induction machines operating at low and zero frequency using ANNs has been experimentally implemented and measurement results are given.
Findings
The measurement results show the advantages of the application of the proposed technique at low and zero speed sensorless control even at high load levels.
Originality/value
The paper describes an effective method of eliminating or reducing modulation harmonics in induction motor drives.

Design/methodology/approach
This is a conceptual paper using arguments from organizational learning literature.
Findings
The authors show that, as learning tools, Web 2.0 tools should be able to create interaction, enable knowledge sharing, access pre‐knowledge, and generate and store new knowledge.
Research limitations/implications
The constructs are stepping stones towards a complete learning organization.
Practical implications
The proposed framework brings organizations closer to prioritizing and evaluating learning tools and aligning them to dynamic social interactions in the workplace.
Social implications
The proposed framework can inform the development of policies and procedures concerning the use of Web 2.0 tools by employees in the workplace.
Originality/value
The framework opens a new insight to the evaluation process for learning tools and an area of information systems and organizational development research where a handful have ventured.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the RWTH's total artificial heart, ReinHeart, focusing on the design of the unique drive system.
Design/methodology/approach
The force characteristics of the drive have been simulated in a finite element (FE) approach. Additionally the coppler losses within the motor coils have been predicted based on the FE‐simulation. Both results are compared to laboratory measurements of a prototype to validate the design.
Findings
The presented results show a good correlation between simulation and measurement and proof the applicability of the new design drive system.
Research limitations/implications
The used hydraulic models of the cardiovasular system used as a load for the device are not fully validated with data from living organisms. Therefore, further in vivo trials are needed.
Originality/value
The high force density of the drive allows its integration into a fully implantable, total artificial heart, in order to significantly improve durability. This hopefully will extend the indication for artificial hearts as alternatives to transplantation.

This volume of Advances in Econometrics is devoted to dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) models, which have gained popularity in both academic and policy circles as a theoretically and methodologically coherent way of analyzing a variety of issues in empirical macroeconomics. The volume is divided into two parts. The first part covers important topics in DSGE modeling and estimation practice, including the modeling and role of expectations, the study of alternative pricing models, the problem of non-invertibility in structural VARs, the possible weak identification in new open economy macro models, and the modeling of trend inflation. The second part is devoted to innovations in econometric methodology. The papers in this section advance new techniques for addressing key theoretical and inferential problems and include discussion and applications of Laplace-type, frequency domain, empirical likelihood, and method of moments estimators.

The virtual organization is upon us, or so we are led to believe. No longer will we have to worry about finding enough space for so many workstations, as people will be sitting in cyberspace waiting either to send or receive their next communication. It will not matter where in the universe someone is, provided that they can communicate. People will be working in physical isolation, but this does not matter as they can, yes you’ve guessed it, communicate! There is no doubting that communicating is good and absolutely necessary, but it is quality of communication which is needed, not just any old garbled message. Are standards of communication deteriorating? The media by which we are sending messages are improving, of that there is little doubt, but it is the content and usefulness of this content which must be brought to question.
