Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to discuss some fundamental aspects regarding the anomalies in the passive scalar field advected by forced homogenous and isotropic turbulence, by inspection of the analytical properties of the governing equations and with the aid of direct numerical simulation (DNS) data.
Design/methodology/approach
Results from a pseudo‐spectral DNS of a unitary‐Schmidt‐ number passive scalar advected by a low Reynolds number flow field, Reλ=50 and 70 (based on the Taylor microscale λ) allow for a preliminary assessment of the developed numerical model.
Findings
Manipulation of the governing equations for the scalar field (which are monotonic) reveals that the unboundedness of the scalar gradient magnitude is not ruled out by the mathematical properties of the correspondent conservation equation. Classic intermittency effects in the passive scalar field have been reproduced, such as non‐Gaussian behavior of the passive scalar statistics, loss of local isotropy, and multi‐fractal scaling of scalar structure functions. Moreover, Taylor and Richardson theories are, surprisingly, not confirmed only in the dissipation range (small‐scales anomalies).
Originality/value
The authors suggest that the origin of intermittency (qualitatively pictured here as violent burst in spatial gradient quantities) should be sought in the loss of monotonicity of the evolution equation of the scalar gradient.

Abstract
Purpose
Evidence from previous literature indicates that adopting a new innovative technology has a positive impact on a company’s business performance. Much less work has been carried out into examining whether a technology adoption has impact on corporate reputation. This paper aims to examine the latter topic in a context where social media is the channel used to share news about the introduction of a new technology. The empirical setting of the study consists of five retail companies located in the USA that decided to include Bitcoin as a payment platform.
Design/methodology/approach
Twitter data were used to measure how sharing news about the adoption of new technology could affect the reputation of the companies selected, keeping a clear distinction between the volume of data relating to social media responses and the sentiment expressed in the tweets. A panel vector autoregression model was used to incorporate series of data relating to news items, volume and sentiment.
Findings
The results show that the news about the adoption of a new technology has a positive impact on both the volume of tech-related tweets and the sentiment expressed in the tweets themselves, although the patterns of these two effects are different. The resulting impact decreases after a few days, both in volume and in sentiment.
Research limitations/implications
The analysis has limitations that future research could address by extending and diversifying the examined companies and the social media used as data sources. The research suggests that managers in medium-sized companies can leverage on the introduction of new technologies that have a direct impact on their customers and gain reputational benefits in terms of immediate visibility.
Originality/value
The research introduces an additional dimension of analysis to the current stream of corporate reputation. Although the literature has already covered the dynamics of response to events on Twitter, by focusing on the adoption of the new Bitcoin technology, the paper provides novel insights.

The purpose of this paper is to review the current research on theoretical foundations and applications for CPS from 2017 to 2019 including the applications in library.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper is designed in six parts as Introduction, Literature review, Theoretical foundations of CPS, Applications of CPS, CPS’s application in library and Conclusion. The authors review 70 papers and classify them as the above six parts. The authors collected 70 papers from 2017 to 2019 in the academic databases.
Findings
This paper reviews 70 papers regarding theoretical foundations and applications for CPS from 2017 to 2019 in the academic databases aiming to provide scholars and practitioners with a comprehensive overview. The contents of the papers in each research category are summarized from theoretical foundations and applications including the CPS applications in library.
Originality/value
A main contribution of this review paper is that it summarizes the current state-of-the-art theoretical foundations and applications for CPS and in libraries systematically.
