Abstract
Purpose
Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often receive services from a variety of professionals. However, not all providers receive adequate training in ASD. The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program includes a core competency of increasing knowledge about neurodevelopmental and related disabilities. This study attempted to assess trainees’ ASD knowledge and self-reported confidence in working with individuals with ASD and sought to understand if training through the LEND program increases these competencies. Additionally, the purpose of this study is to determine factors that predict ASD knowledge and self-reported confidence in providing services to this population, specifically in an interdisciplinary trainee sample.
Design/methodology/approach
Participants were 170 interdisciplinary LEND trainees during the 2017–2018 academic year. Participants across the USA completed online pre- and posttraining surveys. The survey included demographics, ASD knowledge, questions assessing training experiences, perceived ASD knowledge and self-reported confidence.
Findings
A one-way analysis of variance determined that there was a statistically significant difference in measured ASD knowledge across disciplines F(7, 148) = 5.151, p < .001. Clinical trainees (e.g. psychology, pediatrics and speech) exhibited more measured ASD knowledge than nonclinical trainees (e.g. neuroscience, legal). Additionally, training experiences, self-reported confidence and perceived ASD knowledge were predictors of measured ASD knowledge. Moreover, trainees increased their measured ASD knowledge, self-reported confidence and had more experiences with individuals who have ASD at the end of the training year.
Originality/value
These findings suggest that the LEND program may assist in the preparation of professionals to work with individuals with ASD. Training opportunities, including educational and practical experience, to train interdisciplinary providers who will work with individuals with ASD are advised.

The method of increasing the efficiency and output horsepower of a gas turbine which comprises introducing the motive gas to the turbine at a temperature substantially in excess of a safe operating temperature for the stator and rotor blades of said turbine and simultaneously spraying water into the gas stream adjacent the turbine inlet to form a water film on the rotor and stator blades, said water being in a finely dispersed condition having an approximate size of 60 to 100 microns when it leaves the spray nozzle and sprayed in amounts insufficient to materially lower the gas temperature in the time the gas passes to the blades, and in amounts great enough to keep the outside of the blades wet, whereby the sensible temperature of the blades is at least several hundred degrees Fahrenheit lower than the entering gas temperature.

In a variable‐pitch propeller in combination, a hub, a plurality o£ blades arranged on said hub for adjustment about their longitudinal axis, means displaceable by the action of a hydraulic pressure medium and operatively connected to said blades, an operation of said means effecting an adjustment of the blades and thus a variation of the propeller pitch, a source of hdyraulic pressure supplying liquid under pressure to said blade‐adjusting means, an additional source of hydraulic pressure also adapted to supply liquid under pressure to said blade‐adjusting means, a member determining the magnitude of the hydraulic pressure acting upon the blade adjusting means, a governing member operated by the action of centrifugal forces and a change‐over member, both these members controlling the distribution of the hydraulic pressure medium to said blade‐adjusting means, a further member adapted to interrupt the supply of hydraulic pressure medium to said blade‐adjusting means when a limit of a normal predetermined pitch range is reached, auxiliary valve means for the hydraulic‐pressure medium, which permit a further actuation of said blade‐adjusting means for the purpose of moving the blades beyond that predetermined pitch range only after increased hydraulic adjusting pressure has been able to open said auxiliary valve means, and means connecting said governing member and said change‐over member in such a way that they can be adjusted by a deliberate manual operation for the purpose of connecting said additional source of hydraulic pressure to said other source of hy‐draulic pressure, said member determining the magnitude of the hydraulic pressure acting on the blade‐adjusting means being thereby acted upon in such a way as to increase the hydraulic pressure, so that a greater quantity of pressure medium and an increased hydraulic pressure are available for adjusting the blades beyond the said normal pre‐determined pitch range.

A throttle‐controlled, propeller‐driving, gas turbine engine, for an aircraft, including a pitch‐change mechanism connected to vary the pitch of a variable pitch propeller, pitch coarsening and fining passages connected with said mechanism, a valve through which operating fluid under pressure can be selectively supplied to said passages, said valve connected to be movable by a governor mechanism for selecting the passage to be supplied, and additional means which is connected to be actuated by the throttle and which selectively supplies fluid under pressure directly to said passages in a position intermediate said mechanism and said valve in such a manner that the propeller will very quickly absorb the change in the power developed by the engine resulting from movement of the throttle while keeping the engine speed at a constant predetermined value, at which latter it is always maintained by said governor mechanism for any setting of the throttle within the normal operating power range of the engine, said additional means including for the purpose a metering device having a cylinder with a sliding and rolling piston therein, a valve with two relatively rotatable parts for selectively controlling the connexion of a source of fluid pressure cither to one operative end of said cylinder or to said pitch fining passage, a connexion between the other operative end of said cylinder and said pitch coarsening passage, a mechanical connexion between one of said valve parts and said piston whereby said valve part is rotated by movement of said piston, and a mechanical connexion between the other of said valve parts and the throttle whereby movement of the latter will rotate the said other of said valve parts, such that when the throttle‐actuated valve part is moved from the neutral position said piston will be operated by the pressure difference applied to it to effect a follow up movement of the piston‐connected valve part to return the valve to the neutral position.

Attempts to show the wider social impact of collective redundancy creating recruits for the “flexible” sector of the labour force, those on temporary contracts, part time and self employed. Considers the way collective redundancy has changed the demographic structure of the UK labour force including a sizeable number of older unemployed individuals and many female part time workers. Argues that this could be seen as limited empowerment, labour market enfranchisement for women or marginalization of the traditional older male worker.

Abstract
This chapter draws on data from two studies, one in Canada and another in the United States, focused on the experiences of pedagogical partnership as described by students traditionally underrepresented and underserved in higher education. These students argue that such collaborations with faculty hold promise for creating more inclusive and responsive practices. Using the concept of epistemic justice, the authors explore how partnerships can facilitate epistemological forms of equity and inclusion by (1) creating more equitable conceptions of knowing and knowledge that open possibilities for (2) fostering students’ confidence in their knowledge and willingness to share it with others. The authors argue that partnerships – in their epistemic, relational, and affective impacts – are one powerful way to recognize underrepresented and underserved students as “holders and creators of knowledge” (Delgado-Bernal, 2002, p. 106) and bring about greater epistemic justice in higher education.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to analyze media coverage of the pharmaceutical industry before and after the COVID-19 lockdown to determine whether the coverage changed in light of a global health-care crisis and the fast-track development of vaccines and antiviral treatments.
Design/methodology/approach
The top five US newspapers were audited, comparing the 12-month periods before and after March 2020 coinciding with the pandemic lockdown, yielding 493 front-page articles and editorials. Each headline and full-text article was separately analyzed and categorized as either positive, negative or neutral toward the pharmaceutical industry. A frequency analysis of the hot button issues covered in each article was conducted.
Findings
Year 1 and Year 2 audit results were compared to identify changes in media coverage pre- and post-lockdown. The amount of coverage of the industry increased 145% and the tone of both headlines and articles shifted dramatically. Only one of the five newspapers had a net positive article rating of the industry pre-lockdown, four of five were net positive post-lockdown. The proportion of positive headlines increased 165%. The top issues discussed in the coverage shifted from persistent challenges for the industry (e.g. opioid crisis, high cost of drugs) to the emergence of the virus and status of vaccine development.
Originality/value
This research establishes how media coverage of the pharmaceutical industry changed as the industry responded to a global health-care crisis and identifies implications for industry stakeholders.
