Abstract

Field training — In normal circumstances, salesmen should receive their basic training before they are assigned to the field. From time to time, they may be required to attend further courses on sales techniques and product technicalities. Aside from this, it is the responsibility of the Field Manager to ensure that all aspects of training are practised and perfected in the field.

Abstract

Acorn steps up colour powder coating production. Acorn Exal, Milton Keynes, is planning to double its colour powder coating output. This, according to the company, is because of the way demand is going. It says that the market for colour powder coatings, which are used primarily in architecture, is growing rapidly.

Abstract

The international purchasing function is a critical element in the multinational enterprise's (MNE's) formulation of functionally integrated international policy and strategy and the implementation of strategy. A firm should have some understanding of the markets in which it operates as a consumer or buyer, since possible changes in resource or supplier markets can affect decisions related to the firm's marketing, production, and integration strategies. The supply consideration of MNEs represents risk and opportunity and may, as a result, have a significant influence on net income flows, both in the short and long run. Davis et al provides empirical evidence for assuming that the MNE's international procurement process influences and is influenced by its technological process, R & D, and product categories.

Abstract

Reports from the south‐east of England that housewives have been purchasing packets of “ glitter ” consisting of powdered glass, lacquered, coated with silver and sometimes dyed, for the purpose of decorating their cakes makes one wonder seriously whether we Britons are any more of a thinking race than our coloured brethren of London and other large centres, who report has it, consume large quantities of canned cat and dog meat as a sandwich spread. In the first case, although the so‐called “ glitter ” was never prepared for use as a cake decoration, the manufacturers concerned have given an assurance that in future packets will be labelled that the contents are not for eating !

Abstract

Examines corporate fraud and its relationship with the media. Discusses rise in volume of fraud, due to technological advances, more teamwork and the involvement of organised crime. Looks at the decline in financial reporting this century, with the fourth estate or watchdog traditions of the press not overly concerned with financial news, due to the growth in market‐driven journalism. This means that financial crime in the press is seen as a downer in the market and therefore not encouraged. UK investigative journalists also face tough defamation laws and cannot be expected to act as early warning systems when the crime is undetected by the company involved. Looks at examples of major financial crimes that have been uncovered by journalistic investigation, but concludes that too much is demanded of news media and its resources and expertise is best used in developing news coverage once the financial scandal has been uncovered.
