Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to understand the two-way interaction between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the attractiveness of organization to job seekers (AOJS).
Design/methodology/approach
A system dynamics model is developed in the form of a causal loop diagram (CLD) that explains the CSR-AOJS interaction dynamically. To test the credibility of the developed model, the survey data are used to validate the causal relationships in the CLD.
Findings
This study found that developing an effective strategy or tool by capturing various essential CSR elements can attract potential job seekers.
Originality/value
The developed model is relevant to policymakers, decision-makers and managers when strategizing the CSR plan to attract potential job seekers.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of corporate social responsibility (CSR) effectiveness on job seekers’ organizational attractiveness (JSA). Deriving inspiration from Carroll’s theory, the study specifically tries to measure the impact of CSR on JSA with the four dimensions pertaining to economics (PECO), pertaining to legal compliance (PLCO), pertaining to ethics (PETH) and pertaining to philanthropic (PPH). Furthermore, the paper also tries to examine the moderating role of company selection (COM SEL) done based on high or low CSR reputation and JSA.
Design/methodology/approach
Management and engineering students enrolled in premier institutions and universities of Western Odisha in India are surveyed for their perceptions of CSR and JSA. Purposive and convenience sampling are applied to collect data from 456 job seekers. Based on the analysis, the study proposes two main models (Models 1 and 2) wherein Model 1 tries to measure the effect of CSR on JSA and Model 2 checks the moderating effect of COM SEL on CSR and JSA. In addition, robustness of the study is tested using control variables (Models 3 and 4). Data is treated through SmartPLS 3.3 software. The structural equation modelling (partial least squares-SEM) method is applied to test the hypotheses and for further analysis.
Findings
The result reveals an interesting insight. There is a positive and significant effect of PECO, PLCO and PPH on JSA. Moreover, no such significant effect is observed between PETH and JSA. Further, the findings are contrary with respect to COM SEL, that partially moderates the effect of CSR on JSA. However, the results reveal that COM SEL has a substantial moderating effect on the PPH dimension of CSR and JSA.
Practical implications
The results highlight that CSR positively and significantly affects JSA in terms of PECO, PLCO and PPH, thereby emphasizing that organizations must be more focused on these perspectives of CSR. Further, though the results did not exhibit any significance with PETH, it is essential that organizations should strengthen the ethical aspects of CSR as well and align them with the CSR strategic actions. The study also confirms the moderating effect of COM SEL on PPH dimension of CSR and JSA, thereby supporting the philanthropic approach in this domain. Further, the organizations should foresee the philanthropic factor of CSR as a competitive advantage to attract potential job seekers.
Originality/value
This research attempts to contribute to CSR and HR literature in two ways. First, it is the first attempt to use PLS-SEM with an attempt to understand job seekers’ perception of CSR and JSA with Indian data consisting of students belonging to premier business management and engineering institutes. Second, the study is an attempt to empirically measure the moderating effect of COM SEL on JSA. To sum up, the study will provide insights to organizations to help craft CSR strategies for attracting more job seekers.

Abstract
Purpose
With the growing importance of service quality in Indian retail, it becomes critical for the retailers to identify the appropriate dimensions for their retail stores. In the process of evaluating service quality the decision maker is often faced with ambiguities due to the imprecise information gained from the respondents. The purpose of this paper is to present an integrated fuzzy (fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) approach to help the decision makers/retailers in practicing and judging the priorities of service quality strategies and accordingly benchmarking retail stores in Indian retail environment.
Design/methodology/approach
The study incorporated the five basic dimensions of Retail Service Quality Scale proposed by Dabholkar et al. (1996) and the FAHP approach to three leading apparel retail stores of a major city (Rourkela) of Orissa (an Indian state located in eastern part of the country) to determine the weights of criteria and sub-criteria of retail service quality.
Findings
The study identified that the dimensions, namely, personal interaction, physical aspects, reliability and policy are perceived as important by the Indian consumers. Merchandise and the store’s willingness to handle returns and exchanges emerge as the most influencing variable affecting the overall service quality of the store.
Research limitations/implications
The study was restricted to a major city of Orissa and to three apparel stores. The results obtained may not be extrapolated to the country as a whole. The authors believe that the integrated approach of FAHP could be used by a variety of service industries to evaluate the service quality. The study did not investigate switching behavior among the respondents as they had been visiting all the three apparel stores during the preceding months.
Practical implications
The integrated approach of FAHP makes an empirical contribution to the service quality and retail marketing literature by overcoming the uncertainty of concepts those are associated with human beings’ subjective judgments.
Social implications
The retailer can improve the quality of service provided by them based on the parameters important in Indian context, which will lead to higher customer satisfaction.
Originality/value
This paper can help the retail service providers to identify which of the retail service quality dimensions requires much attention to create sustainable competitive advantage.

This chapter explores into the understanding of poverty and mitigating the challenges by revisiting for a sustainable alleviation of the scales of economy. Eventually insufficient income and spending is the bastion of natural deprivation for household problems. Effective measures are critically examined to redefine the obstacles that are key to upliftment and eradication of poverty. It essentially aims to bridging the gap, analysing the SDG goals through a trend analysis for a time period. These strategies will introspect into overcoming the emerging areas of concern with a futuristic development. Evidently global challenges in the social, economic, political and cultural ecosystem require newness of intervention and initiatives to achieve the triple bottom line, revisiting the dimensions of poverty. Essentially it will anatomise into the causes and consequences of poverty through certain measuring yardsticks in the context of different economies globally. These social, economic, political, legal and technological interventions through their novel strategies can empower and create inclusion for the sharing of equitable wealth distribution, ensuring justice and supporting human rights, providing social security to the poorest of the poor. This study shall innovatively scan through the new entrepreneurship models to understand the skillsets across the globe in order to foster good governance in a win-win environment. Nevertheless, the aspects of poverty alleviation and sustainable order for mitigating the challenges of poverty shall be addressed in the spectrum of climate change and volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA) environment. Basically, in review of the aforesaid dimensions, this study shall vividly examine on the Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs) pertaining to poverty alleviation worldwide to adjust for the seamless and uninterrupted continuation trend analysis of the periodic plans of action. It shall adjudge into the befitting global trend admissible under the uncertain future.

This book chapter examines how the evolution of the tourist and hospitality industries has been impacted by digital technologies. Digitalisation makes it possible to implement resilient infrastructure in all applications to achieve sustainability. The hospitality and tourism sector is known to be information-rich due to its diverse commercial interactions with shareholders and constant evolution of managerial processes, modification of tourist and hotel services, advancements in technology and an intensely competitive atmosphere. It has been recognised that growth of tourism and hospitality industry becomes impossible without the applications of modern digital technologies that enable integration and communication, boost service quality and transmit a sizeable amount of information.
