Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to define a new method (grey relational analysis (GRA)) for extracting pattern samples of dissolved gases in power transformer oil, then a hybrid algorithm of the back‐propagation (BP) network and fuzzy genetic algorithm‐artificial neural network (FGA‐ANN) is used to power transformer fault diagnosis based on extracted pattern samples.

Design/methodology/approach

The existing manners (e.g. international electro technical commission triple‐ratio method), in practice, have certain faultiness due to the ambiguity of the inference and insufficient standard for judgment. So GRA method is chosen to solve a problem of optimal pattern samples data, then a hybrid algorithm of the BP network and FGA‐ANN is developed to optimize initial weights and to enable fast convergence of the BP network, and lastly, this algorithm is applied to the classification of dissolved gas analysis (DGA) data and power transformer fault diagnosis.

Findings

If possible, the results should be accompanied by significance. For comparative studies, the proposed scheme does not require the three ratio code and high diagnosis accuracy is obtained. In addition, useful information is provided for future fault trends and multiple faults analysis.

Research limitations/implications

Accessibility and availability of data are the main limitations which model will be applied.

Practical implications

This paper provides useful advice for power transformer fault diagnosis method based on DGA data.

Originality/value

The new method of optimal choice of options of pattern samples due to GRA. The paper is aimed at optimized samples data classified and abandons the traditional ratio method.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to define new method (grey model (GM)) for predicting the value of gases in oil‐immersed power equipment, as well as change the traditional GM which requires equal interval data.

Design/methodology/approach

Trend forecasting is an important aspect in fault diagnosis and work state supervision, however, in practice, it is not practical that a number of data is necessary to build the forecast model. In transformer, the concentration of the gases dissolved in transformer oil is associated with gas type, oil quality, oil temperature, transformer load, etc. which some are known, others are unknown. So it can consider that transformer is grey system and the theory of grey system is chosen as a mathematical framework to solve the problem of forecasting the change of gases.

Findings

If possible, the results should be accompanied by significance.

Research limitations/implications

Accessibility and availability of data are the main limitations which model will be applied.

Practical implications

A very useful advice for power transformer fault diagnosis method based on dissolved gas analysis data.

Originality/value

The paper presents a new approach of forecasting the value of gases in oil‐immersed power equipment and is aimed at unequal interval gases data which is used to GM.

Abstract

Purpose

Product configuration is considered as one of the most successful applications of knowledge‐based approaches in the past decade. Knowledge‐based configurations can be classified into three different approaches, namely, rule‐based, model‐based and case‐based approaches. Past research has mainly focused on the development of reasoning techniques for mapping requirements to configurations. Despite the success of certain conventional approaches, the acquisition of configuration knowledge is usually done manually. This paper aims to explore fundamental issues in product configuration system, and propose a novel approach based on data mining techniques to automatically discover configuration knowledge in constraint‐based configurations.

Design/methodology/approach

Given a set of product data comprising product requirements specification and configuration information, the paper adopted an association rule mining algorithm to discover useful patterns between requirement specification and product components, as well as the correlation among product components. A configuration was developed which takes XML‐based requirement specification as input and bases on a constraint knowledge base to produce product configuration as output consisting of a list of selected components and the structure and topology of the product. Three modules are developed, namely product data modelling, configuration knowledge generation and product configuration generation module. The proposed approach is implemented in the configuration knowledge generation module. The configuration generation module realizes a resolution of constraint satisfaction problem to generate the output configuration.

Findings

The significance and effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated by its incorporation in our configuration system prototype. A case study was conducted and experimental results show that the approach is promising in finding constraints with given sufficient data.

Originality/value

Novel knowledge generation approach is proposed to assist constraint generation for Constraint‐based product configuration system.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to construct some negative grey relational analysis models to measure the relationship between reverse sequences.

Design/methodology/approach

The definition of reverse sequence has been given at first based on analysis of relative position and change trend of sequences. Then, several different negative grey relational analysis models, such as the negative grey similarity relational analysis model, the negative grey absolute relational analysis model, the negative grey relative relational analysis model, the negative grey comprehensive relational analysis model and the negative Deng’s grey relational analysis model have been put forward based on the corresponding common grey relational analysis models. The properties of the new models have been studied.

Findings

The negative grey relational analysis models proposed in this paper can solve the problem of relationship measurement of reverse sequences effectively. All the new negative grey relational degree satisfying the requirements of normalization and reversibility.

Practical implications

The proposed negative grey relational analysis models can be used to measure the relationship between reverse sequences. As a living example, the reverse incentive effect of winning Fields Medal on the research output of winners is measured based on the research output data of the medalists and the contenders using the proposed negative grey relational analysis model.

Originality/value

The definition of reverse sequence and the negative grey similarity relational analysis model, the negative grey absolute relational analysis model, the negative grey relative relational analysis model, the negative grey comprehensive relational analysis model and the negative Deng’s grey relational analysis model are first proposed in this paper.

Abstract

Purpose

This study focused on nonconventional marketing (in-game advertisement interactivity) to understand consumers' purchase intentions. Specifically, this study aims to explore the intervening role of feelings of presence between in-game advertisement interactivity and consumer purchase intention. It further explores whether game–product congruence moderates the relationship between feelings of presence in the game and consumer purchase intention.

Design/methodology/approach

This study collected data from 386 PUBG mobile players on a convenience basis. The selected players were ensured to have experience in playing mission ignition mode (a Tesla-themed mode of PUBG mobile).

Findings

The study noted that in-game advertisement interactivity positively affects consumer purchase intention, and this relationship is further explained through feelings of presence. In addition, game–product congruence was noted to strengthen the association between feelings of presence and consumer purchase intention.

Research limitations/implications

The study used a cross-section design to collect data from players of PUBG through Google Forms on a convenient basis. The study highlights the significance of nontraditional advertisement and game–product congruence that helps businesses to attract customers.

Originality/value

Drawing upon transportation theory, this study is the first of its kind that has explored the mediating role of feelings of presence between in-game advertising interactivity and consumer purchase intention. In addition, this study shed light on the importance of game–product congruence to strengthen purchase intention.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore the social responsibility performance’s current situation, influencing factors and mechanisms of multinational companies (MNCs) in China. The paper is based on the MNC’s social responsibility performance factors to find some relevant reasons for unsatisfied performance and on the multiple perspectives such as institutional distance and stakeholders, to provide feasible solutions for MNCs to assume civic responsibility and the high-quality development of the host country.

Design/methodology/approach

The study uses general literature review and empirical analysis to analyze the way and degree of various factors which are affecting the social responsibility of MNC in China, and supplements the deficiencies of previous studies.

Findings

The paper reveals the influencing factors and mechanisms of MNCs’ social responsibility in China through the regression results. In addition, based on Research Report on Corporate Social Responsibility of China (Huang et al., 2013/2019), the paper also summarizes the performance and dynamic changes of MNCs social responsibility in the Chinese market in the past decade.

Originality/value

The paper enriches research on the social responsibility of MNCs in the background of non-western countries, dynamically describes the performance of MNCs’ responsibilities in a 10-year span and solves the problem of inconsistent research conclusions caused by too long time span. The paper also creates the “local enterprise responsibility level” to quantify the development of the host country’s responsibility, and identifies the “responsibility demonstration effect” of state-owned enterprises and private enterprises.

Abstract

Plastic pollution is a widespread problem around the world. However, the problem is more severe and ever increasing in developing countries. The literature suggests that the majority of the work and the solutions that have been proposed to address plastic littering have been undertaken in developed countries. Thus, there is a need to explore the problem in developing countries to better understand the issue and to develop context-specific solutions. We explored the norms perspective using ‘The Focus Theory of Normative Conduct’, individual ethical position and place attachment factors. Interviews were conducted in Pakistan with 16 people who were recently at a beach at which there was a large amount of plastic litter. Results showed that people are influenced by the pro-littering social norms of their friends and neighbours. However, people with strong anti-littering personal norms are not influenced by pro-littering social norms. We also found that people have varying moral position, and their lack of attachment with the public place also influences their littering behaviour. Moreover, people believe that other people litter due to lack of education and awareness, lack of garbage bins and a general level of carelessness. Future research needs to focus on activating an individual's idealist moral position and an individuals' attachment with the place to enhance the activation of anti-littering personal norms which will help reduce littering behaviour. Further still, government needs to set up campaigns at public places to create awareness among people about the impact of littering, and government also needs to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of waste management. Businesses can also play a role by providing waste bins which may be used as a source of promoting their support for reducing litter.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to introduce a method for predicting the remaining useful life (RUL) of bearings based on parallel feature extraction. The proposed model provides prior knowledge and removes redundant handcrafted feature information, additionally, which focuses on the important features at different time scales.

Design/methodology/approach

Distinct from traditional parallel feature extraction methods, which can lead to information redundancy, a one-dimensional convolutional autoencoder is introduced to process selected indicators to remove redundancy and retain useful feature information. To fully capture the important degradation information within different stages in the feature sequences, a novel multi-scale attention feature fusion module is proposed to extract degradation features at different time scales. Considering the impact of degradation modes on RUL prediction, a dual-task prediction module based on no degradation mode labels is designed to obtain accurate RUL.

Findings

Comparative experiments and ablation studies on the PHM2012 bearing dataset verified the effectiveness of the proposed method. Furthermore, the rationality of the selected parameters is confirmed through model parameter analysis.

Originality/value

The novelty of the proposed method is that it not only provides prior knowledge but also further removes redundant information from prior knowledge. In addition, the distribution differences between the original features and their multi-scale convolution results are measured through Kullback–Leibler divergence as the attention scores, which allows the proposed method to focus on important information at different time scales.

Abstract

Purpose

The rapid technological growth, changes in consumer demands, products’ built-in obsolescence, presence of more non-repairable parts, shorter lifespan, etc., lead to the generation of e-waste at an unprecedented rate. Although a number of research proposals and business products to manage e-waste exist in the literature, they lack in many aspects such as incomplete coverage of product’s life cycle, access control, payment channels (in few cases), incentive mechanisms, scalability issues, and missing experimental validation. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a novel blockchain-based e-waste management system aiming to mitigate the above-mentioned downsides and limitations of the existing proposals.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper proposes a robust and reliable e-waste management system by leveraging the power of blockchain technology, which captures the complete life cycle of e-products commencing from their manufacturing as new products to their disposal as e-waste and their recycling back into raw materials.

Findings

While the use of blockchain technology increases accountability, transparency and trust in the system, the proposal overcomes various challenges and limitations of the existing systems by providing seamless interactions among various agencies.

Originality/value

This paper presents a prototype implementation of the system as a proof-of-concept using solidity on the Ethereum platform and this paper performs experimental evaluations to demonstrate its feasibility and effective performance in terms of execution gas cost and transaction throughput.

Abstract

Purpose

As a type of electronic commerce, online C2C markets have experienced a rapid growth in both sales volume and user numbers. Buy‐it‐now (BIN) auction is a mechanism to facilitate online auctions, and is adopted by the major online C2C marketplaces. This study aims to investigate consumers' purchase and adoption of risk relief service in BIN auctions in the online C2C market from the perspective of perceived risk.

Design/methodology/approach

A research model is developed based on relevant theory. Data are collected from American and Chinese consumers through a web‐based experiment system that simulates the transaction process on online C2C markets. The proposed hypotheses are tested with logistic and multiple linear regressions.

Findings

The results show that buyer's purchase behavior and usage of risk relief service for a transaction in BIN auctions are determined by the perceived risk, which is influenced by the buyer's risk attitude, seller online reputation, and the product price and type.

Practical implications

This study provides an in‐depth understanding of consumers' behaviors on online C2C markets at transaction level, and makes implications for online marketplace operation and business strategy making.

Originality/value

The primary value of this paper lies in providing a better understanding of consumers' behaviors on online C2C market, and investigating the factors that influence the consumers' purchase and adoption of risk relief service in online BIN auctions from the perceived risk perspective.
