Abstract
Computer applications in education have generally either (1) streamlined some existing routine operation such as payroll or scheduling or (2) attempted some very sophisticated modeling of, for example, learning processes or cost functions for an institution. None of these applications has made a noticeable impact on the practices or the management of education. The proper function of the computer is as a filter to suppress irrelevant data and highlight critical data, to make short term projections of trends, to visually display the dynamics of system interactions, and to allow managers and teachers to interact with models of the system (e.g. the student or the school) they are supposed to be in charge of. The paper sketches the outlines of a computerized information system designed to use the strengths of the computer to complement the strengths of the human teacher and manager.

Explains a process the authors have enacted several times for facilitating organizational self‐reflection, which they call “reflective inquiry”. Shows how the process is based on the authors’ current understanding of the concept referred to as organizational learning. Finally, advocates future participatory action research whereby organizational learning theory is tested and modified through the design, enactment and observation of further processes; these processes, in turn, should be designed based on current understandings of organizational learning.

Establishes our perspective for shared organizational learning processes, cycles, and systems. These learning phenomena are usually tacit, i.e. the organization is only dimly aware of them. These tacit phenomena drive both decision and action and, because they are tacit, they are self‐organizing and are normally not analysed. In order to develop effective learning systems, the organization must explicitly articulate and design these learning processes, cycles, and systems. The “learning unit” is introduced as the essential element where learning development must focus for improved organizational performance. Begins to develop the implications of this perspective for organization theory, organizational practice, and the art of management. Organizational learning can drive organizational transformation if these phenomena are properly planned, designed, and facilitated.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to share a discussion with Dr Barry Fishman, University of Michigan, concerning how to use technology to improve the learning experience of students in higher education.
Design/methodology/approach
This article summarizes an interview with Dr Fishman conducted in December 2015.
Findings
Massive open online courses, personalized learning and changes in how we assess student learning are all opportunities that Fishman believes can improve both student outcomes and intrinsic motivation.
Originality/value
Changes in technology can enable researchers and educators easier access to implementing various learning environments.

Abstract
Purpose
A new concept solution for improving blast survivability of the light tactical military vehicles is proposed and critically assessed using computational engineering methods and tools.
Design/methodology/approach
The solution is inspired by the principle of operation of the rocket-engine nozzles, in general and the so called “pulse detonation” rocket engines, in particular, and is an extension of the recently introduced so-called “blast chimney” concept (essentially a vertical channel connecting the bottom and the roof and passing through the cabin of a light tactical vehicle). Relative to the blast-chimney concept, the new solution offers benefits since it does not compromise the cabin space or the ability of the vehicle occupants to scout the environment and, is not expected to, degrade the vehicle’s structural durability/reliability. The proposed concept utilizes side vent channels attached to the V-shaped vehicle underbody whose geometry is optimized with respect to the attainment of the maximum downward thrust on the vehicle. In the course of the channel design optimization, analytical and computational analyses of supersonic flow (analogous to the one often used in the case of the pulse detonation engine) are employed.
Findings
The preliminary results obtained reveal the beneficial effects of the side channels in reducing the blast momentum, although the extent of these effects is quite small (2-4 per cent).
Originality/value
To the authors’ knowledge, the present work is the first exploration of the side-vent-channels concept for mitigating the effect of buried-mine explosion on a light tactical vehicle.

In recent years, impression management and the application of the metaphor of behaviour as drama have found their way into the marketing literature. While such creative perspectives concerning the marketing enterprise are generally welcome, little effort has been devoted to providing a specific vehicle for their development. This special issue of the European Journal of Marketing represents an attempt to rectify that circumstance. Discusses in broad terms the relationship of impression management to marketing, while arguing that much room for applications such as impression management’s drama metaphor abound. To demonstrate the efficacy of impression management for marketing, briefly presents the four articles that comprise this special issue. Finally, registers a call for continued work in the area of impression management’s application to marketing.

Abstract
Purpose
The Managerial Auditing Journal (MAJ) started publication in 1986 and celebrates its 35th year of publication in 2020. The purpose of this study is to provide a detailed bibliometric analysis of the journal’s primary trends and themes between 1986 and 2019.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses the Scopus database to analyse the most prolific authors in the MAJ along with their affiliated institutions and countries; the work also identifies the MAJ articles cited most often by other journals. A range of bibliometric devices is applied to analyse the publication and citation structure of MAJ, alongside performance analysis and science mapping tools. The study also provides a detailed inter-temporal analysis of MAJ publishing patterns.
Findings
The MAJ publishes around 40 articles each year with citations of this work steadily growing over time. The journal has attracted contributors from around the globe, most often affiliated with the USA, the UK and Australia. Thematic evolution of the journal’s themes reveals that it has expanded its scope to include topics such as internal auditing, internal control and corporate governance, whilst co-authorship analysis reveals that the journal’s collaboration network has grown to span the globe.
Research limitations/implications
As this study uses data from the Scopus database, any shortcomings therein will be reflected in the study.
Originality/value
This study provides the first overview of the MAJ’s publication and citation trends as well as the evolution of its thematic structure. It also suggests future directions that the journal might take.
