Abstract
Multiple regression models can be used to rank physics journals in approximately the same order as the journals are perceived useful by actual users. Four such regression models are reported here, each having a multiple R value of ·74 or greater. Perceived usefulness, the dependent variable used in constructing the models, was obtained from a survey of 167 physicists in the US and Canada. The independent, or predictor variables include easily obtainable bibliometric statistics such as number of source items published, immediacy index, ratio of citations received to citations made, total citations received, impact factor and others. Regression models that combine certain of these statistics can predict user valuation of the journals better than any single bibliometric predictor alone can do. Their advantage for serials management is in ease of estimating usefulness as judged by users, a much more difficult statistic to obtain. Where these models may not apply, it is relatively simple to construct similar models based upon surveys of other user groups. It appears likely that good models of this type can also be developed for many other disciplines.

Abstract
Investigates the role of the professional in a firm offering professional services aiming to answer the questions of: what marketing activities the professional might use; what proportion of his/her time should be divided into what areas; and how marketing sales and costs might be calculated. Looks at current practices in this area, and attempts to find conceptual frameworks to guide professional service firms in the marketplace.

Abstract
Before this great innovation assaults the long‐suffering British public in mind and matter, in the retailer's cash register and the spender's pocket, a brief comparison between the present coinage and the promised decimal one might not be amiss. The £sd system has its faults and understandably is difficult for the foreigner, but no more so than the language and the weather. Like many things British it is so haphazard: why should there be 240 pennies to the pound? Why 12 pennies to the shilling? One thing, however, about this awkward currency is that it is amazingly well‐adapted to price variations at the lower level, and most commodities are in this range. Whether prices have adapted themselves to the flexibility of the coinage or the other way round is immaterial but the centuries have well and truly married the two. As a lowly coin such as the farthing has ceased to have commercial use with the falling value of money, it has disappeared and its place has been taken by the next larger, the halfpenny and then by the penny, and this must surely be the one great advantage of the £sd system.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper highlights an assignment in a combination upper-division undergraduate and graduate civic leadership class at a Midwestern state comprehensive university. The three-part assignment challenges students’ critical thinking skills and research capabilities while simultaneously necessitating the exploration of contrasting viewpoints on contentious issues.
Design/methodology/approach
Intentionally exposing students to diverse perspectives in a controlled environment.
Findings
We posit that the severity and frequency of these issues can be mitigated through focused efforts.
Originality/value
Students are better prepared to engage in civil debate on controversial topics, which continuously divide our communities, after completing a class using this pedagogical strategy.
