Abstract
Contributors from five libraries address the expectations and realities of their automation projects, including: staff impact, costs and funding, time and schedules, users, computer support, vendors, and consultants. Some keys to success include: very clear political objectives at the beginning of the project; careful definition of the project structure; a well‐prepared automation plan; carefully‐considered, contractual commitments with a vendor; and flexibility and adaptability.

Abstract
This paper is a report of a study which examined patterns of misbehaviour and punishment in 52 secondary schools within the South Central region of the Education Department of Victoria, Australia, and considered their significance as indicators of the implicit values endorsed by the school and as measures of one aspect of school climate. The results of a factor analysis revealed the existence of four factors, reflecting differing values emphases within schools. A further statistical analysis led to the determination of four categories of climate, designated as “controlled”, “conflictual”, “libertarian” and “autonomous”. The characteristics of each school system were then considered in relation to these groupings.

Abstract
The increased number of people working in offices and the steady influx of computer technology has generated concern for the health and quality of work life of office workers. A number of studies have indicated that occupational stress, both physical and psychological, is becoming a problem in office workplaces. This study evaluated ergonomic aspects of traditional (bullpen) and automated (systems) offices to provide information regarding the suitability of various office configurations. A total of 105 female office workers representing the public and private sectors participated in the study. The evaluation methodology, which included both questionnaire, interview and objective measurements, encompassed the following components of office environments: environmental conditions (e.g. lighting), workstation factors, job characteristics/demands and organizational demands. Overall, the results indicated that ergonomic problems exist in both public and private sector offices. The findings demonstrate that the design of the office environment is important as it impacts on the health and quality of work life of office workers.

The conference focused on the theme “Transforming the academy: dreams and reality” and the program included pre‐conference seminars; track sessions; poster sessions; small group meetings; and corporate exhibits, presentations, and workshops.

Purpose
To share with readers how HumaniTech evolved and has matured over 18 years.
Design/methodology/approach
A description of a programmatic infrastructure that emphases technology in the humanities for teaching and research purposes.
Findings
As more institutions define and focus on how technology is driving their disciplines and changing how scholarship is being created, more connections are being made to educate the scholars about opportunities for improved ways to teach, incorporate new resources and methodologies to better define and further their craft. Implementing media to study and capture information is a moving target with new products and technologies being announced often.
Research limitations/implications
This visit to HumaniTech does not capture everything but focuses on how technology in the humanities at one institution has addressed the need to raise the bar and share how colleagues are using information in their field and what this may mean for scholarly publishing.
Practical implications
Filling information gaps as new technologies offered different ways to conduct research and engage in teaching birthed HumaniTech. Today, nearly two decades later, a robust program of content, resources, and a higher common denominator is reached by a discipline‐centered unit to bridge technology with content.
Originality/value
Shows that the University of California, Irvine School of the Humanities promotes best practices of entertaining technology in humanities scholarship with instruction, programs, teaching tools and resources.
