– The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of directors’ remuneration on the firm’s intrinsic and extrinsic value.
Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of directors’ remuneration on the firm’s intrinsic and extrinsic value.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper provides a brief review of the literature on directors’ remuneration and identifies the current knowledge on the relationship between profit sharing or directors’ remuneration and the firm’s performance. In addition, correlation analysis between the directors’ compensation and various parameters measuring the firm’s performance is done.
Findings
From an investor’s viewpoint, the performance indicators indicated no significant relation of the increase in the firm’s performance with the increase in directors’ remuneration. But, from the accounting viewpoint, there exists a positive correlation between the two. Therefore, the directors’ remuneration adds to the intrinsic value of the firm, but does not contribute significantly to the extrinsic value of the firm.
Research limitations/implications
Future research could encompass a larger sample of companies. Also, a comparison could be done for the companies for periods before and after the modification of Clause 49 post-Satyam fiasco. The present study is done after a short period of the modification to the Clause 49.
Originality/value
The study provides a unique examination of remuneration of the board of directors and the firm’s performance. It studies the impact of the directors’ remuneration and its impact on firm’s performance. The study encompasses an exhaustive analysis for the emerging market, namely, India. The research studies 40 companies, which are unique from each other and explores the relation. It explores four parameters studying both the intrinsic and extrinsic values of the firm.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the relationship between internal audit functions (IAF) and financial reporting quality (FRQ) and whether such a relationship is moderated by senior management support (SMS) in listed companies in Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).
Design/methodology/approach
This research is a cross-sectional study, using primary data in the form of a survey sent to 175 listed companies in NSE. A total of 149 questionnaires have been collected and analysed out of which 97 were found to be useful and used in the final analysis.
Findings
The findings indicate a positive and significant relationship between internal audit qualities of work performed, internal control activities, coordination between internal and external auditors and FRQ and this finding was also supported by SMS as a moderator. However, the results show a negative and insignificant relationship between internal audit competency, organisational status and FRQ.
Research limitations/implications
The findings support the assumption with regard to agency theory. The board should support the IAF to serve as an effective monitoring mechanism in minimising opportunistic management actions. Regulators should also ensure adequate structures that will strengthen the organisational status of the internal auditors to perform towards improving FRQ.
Originality/value
The study contributes to the existing literature by assessing the effect of IAF on FRQ as moderated by SMS.

This study aims to review the auditor-client relationship (ACR) literature spanning 1976 to 2019 to provide future research directions.
Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to review the auditor-client relationship (ACR) literature spanning 1976 to 2019 to provide future research directions.
Design/methodology/approach
The study analysed 140 articles from the Web of Science database, authored by 259 scholars across 28 countries and published in 47 journals. It identified three major research streams to understand the ACR dynamics: auditor tenure, ACR attributes and auditor-client negotiation.
Findings
Three major findings emerged based on this review. First, few studies examine auditor-client negotiation relative to other streams; thus, it offers scope for further research. Second, given that various fields have used diverse frameworks as theoretical underpinnings in prior studies, continuing this trend can better portray ACR from multiple perspectives. Finally, despite strong international regulations on ACR aspects such as auditor independence, tenure and rotation, implementation in several countries warrants special considerations, specifically on legal enforcement and investor protection, given diverse cultures and country-level institutional environments.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the synthesis of existing and emerging research streams and provides future research suggestions.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the determinants of Islam banks (IBs) liquidity.
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, the author uses a generalized least square fixed effect model on an unbalanced panel data set of all IBs operating in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation countries over the period 1989-2008.
Findings
The estimation results show that all the determinants have statistically significant relationships with IBs’ liquidity but with different signs. On the one hand, foreign ownership, credit risk, profitability, inflation rate, monetary policy and deposit insurance negatively affected IBs liquidity. On the other hand, capital ratio, size gross domestic product growth and concentration have a positive nexus with IBs’ liquidity.
Originality/value
According to the best of the author’s knowledge, this is the first empirical study to investigate the determinants of IBs liquidity using cross-country data with a large sample of IBs (110 banks) and over a long period (19 years). Also, the paper included variables that had not been discussed on the previous studies, which used cross-country data, such as efficiency, deposit insurance, monetary policy, concentration and market capitalization.

Abstract
Purpose
Relying on the agency theory and the financial intermediation theory, the purpose of this paper is to examine to what extent risk governance would improve corporate governance and risk management effectiveness. The paper especially investigates the mediating role that would have the risk governance mechanisms in explaining both of the following relationships: the corporate governance–the banks’ performance, and the risk management–the banks’ performance.
Design/methodology/approach
This research uses the Baron and Kenny’s (1986) approach to investigate the mediating effect of risk governance; besides, the study refers to structural equation modeling in carrying out the appropriate panel regressions. The data collection was based largely on Bank scope Database, but some missing qualitative data were gathered manually from the banks’ annual reports available on the banks’ websites.
Findings
The study findings illustrate the significant role of risk governance mechanisms in improving both corporate governance and risk management’s effectiveness. Especially, this paper finds that risk governance is fully explaining the corporate governance–bank performance relationship, but risk governance would explain partially the risk management–bank performance relationship. Further, findings suggest that the internal corporate governance mechanisms seem to be more relevant than the external ones in improving the sample bank performance, and that risk management mechanisms seem to impede rather the sample bank performance.
Practical implications
The findings would make an important contribution to the current debate on the need to reinvent the optimal organization of the bank’s board and directorates and would allow readers to develop more cost-effective governance and risk-management thinking. Besides, the findings may help bank deciders and boards to rationalize costs and to focus only on the relevant corporate governance and risk management mechanisms. Finally, findings might illustrate to regulatory instance the importance of recommending risk governance in their coming corporate governance guidance.
Social implications
The global credit crisis of 2008 caused significant difficulties to financial institutions, so it would be worth enlightening practitioners and policymakers, even regulators, on the importance of considering the level of potential risk and risk monitoring as a key component in the decision-making process, to strengthen the stability and resilience of banks in an increasingly uncertain environment.
Originality/value
The issues raised in the paper are important in that Islamic banking is an integral part of the global banking and finance industry. This paper extends the knowledge of the potential importance of the new concept of risk governance with specific reference to Islamic banking industry peculiarities. It also provides a telling illustration of the need for the enhancements of the Basel Committee’s prudential requirements as well as the accounting and auditing organization for Islamic financial institutions and Islamic Financial Services Board set out especially regarding the consideration of risk in the strategic decision process.

Abstract
Purpose
The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence has witnessed its widespread integration across various industries, contributing to enhanced productivity. However, a comprehensive exploration of the underlying factors influencing the behavior of graphic designers in employing such tools remains incomplete. This research aims to amalgamate the IDT theory with the UTAUT2 model to construct a structural model, delving into the factors affecting graphic designers’ behavior in using GenAI tools.
Design/methodology/approach
A survey was conducted with 394 respondents, and the results were analyzed using PLS-SEM.
Findings
The findings reveal that most factors proposed in both the UTAUT2 and IDT theories exert positive influences. Notably, the study highlights that AI anxiety significantly influences designers’ usage behavior.
Originality/value
This research provides a theoretical foundation and practical guidance for both graphic designers and AI developers.
