Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to substantiate the necessity and to develop the innovative mechanism of government support for the investment activities of digital universities for provision of region’s investment attractiveness in the conditions of Industry 4.0.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors use the method of regression analysis for determining the dependence of the aggregate volume of investments (internal and external), which are attracted into the regional economy, on the volume of investments into fixed capital in the sphere of education (as the indicator of investment activities in the sphere of digital education) by the example of the regions of the Volga Federal District of the Russian Federation in 2018.

Findings

It is substantiated that the modern Russian mechanism of government support for investment activities of universities (including digital), which is based on such tools as norming and standardization, tax preferences and co-financing, does not allow for full implementation of the existing potential of digital universities in increasing region’s investment attractiveness in the conditions of Industry 4.0, which reduces the investment rating and volume of attracted investment resources in the regional economy – as is shown by the example of the regions of the Volga Federal District of the Russian Federation.

Originality/value

The determined problem could be solved by the presented innovative mechanism of government support for the investment activities of digital universities for provision of region’s investment attractiveness in the conditions of Industry 4.0. It is implemented on the basis of new – for modern Russia – tools: information and consultation support for investment activities and institutional support for integrating digital universities for joint realization of the investment projects in a region. The advantage of the developed mechanism is transfer of the financial load and responsibility for the investment activities from the state to digital universities because of the creation of market stimuli for conducting these activities.

Abstract

Purpose

This conceptual study investigates the adoption of education technology (EdTech) products among college students, focusing on identifying the key factors influencing the adoption process within educational institutions. Technology integration in education has rapidly gained prominence, with EdTech offering innovative solutions to enhance teaching and learning experiences. However, understanding the determinants that affect EdTech adoption remains critical for its successful implementation and impact. This paper aims (1) to identify the factors influencing the adoption of EdTech by college students (2) to create a conceptual model that shows the connections between the elements that lead to college students adopting EdTech.

Design/methodology/approach

The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative data analysis and conceptual modeling to achieve the objectives. The underlying knowledge required to create a qualitative data gathering tool was obtained through a thorough literature analysis on innovation dissemination, educational psychology and technology adoption. College students, teachers and administrators participated in semi-structured interviews, focus groups and surveys to provide detailed perspectives on their attitudes about and experiences with EdTech. The Scopus and Web of Science databases are searched for relevant information in an organized manner in order to determine the factors influencing the adoption of EdTech. Second, an extended version of the technology adoption model is adopted to develop a qualitative data-based conceptual framework to analyze EdTech adoption in the Indian context.

Findings

Overall, by highlighting the critical components that emotionally influence college students' adoption of EdTech products in educational institutions, this course adds to the body of information already in existence. The conceptual framework model serves as a roadmap for educational stakeholders seeking to leverage EdTech effectively to enrich the learning environment and improve educational outcomes. By recognizing the significance of the identified factors, academic institutions can make informed decisions to foster a climate conducive to successful EdTech integration.

Research limitations/implications

A comprehensive conceptual framework model was developed based on qualitative data analysis to illustrate the interrelationships between the identified factors influencing EdTech adoption. This model presents a valuable tool for educational institutions, policymakers and EdTech developers to comprehend the complex dynamics of implementing these technological solutions.

Originality/value

The findings of this study demonstrated a number of important variables that affect the uptake of EdTech products in educational settings. These factors encompassed technological infrastructure, ease of use, perceived usefulness, compatibility with existing academic practices, institutional support, financial constraints and individual attitudes towards technology. Additionally, the research explored the significance of institutional preparation for embracing technological advancements as well as the influence of socio-cultural elements.

Abstract

Whereas most societal commentators continue to review the historical patterns of men’s leadership in search of models for 21st-century success, few have begun to recognize, let alone appreciate, the equivalent patterns of women’s leadership and the future contributions that women could potentially make as leaders. What could and are women bringing to society as global leaders? Why at this moment in history is there such a marked increase in the number of women leaders? Are we entering an era in which both male and female leaders will shape history, both symbolically and in reality? And if so, will we discover that women, on average, lead in different ways than men, or will we learn that role (global leader) explains more than gender? This chapter reveals the accelerating trends of women joining men in senior leadership positions, establishes the relationship of women leaders to our overall understanding of global leadership, and sets forth an agenda to accomplish much needed research and understanding.

Abstract

Purpose

The aim of this article is to conceptually assess the healthiness of regions. A developed health region can become an attractive health tourism destination. Within the framework of the sustainable development paradigm, this article identifies key areas for development in the creation of health regions.

Design/methodology/approach

In this conceptual paper, a traditional narrative review was required. In addition to the scientific literature, the analyses included key reports and strategy documents from public institutions and organizations, the content of which was relevant to the issue addressed.

Findings

A conceptual framework of a health region based on sustainability has been constructed that can support practitioners seeking to develop a health-based region. As a result of a 3-stage conceptualization process, a set of 56 indicators was developed to describe the health characteristics of (1) the environmental sphere, with criteria including air quality, noise levels and natural assets, while taking into account needs for climate crisis resilience adaptation measure; (2) the social sphere concerning infrastructure, which includes elements of space use, transportation accessibility, accessibility for people with special needs, including especially people with disabilities and anthropogenic qualities, and (3) the economic sphere, which is an important element affecting the quality of life.

Originality/value

This is the first attempt to describe a health region in the context of sustainable development. The set of indicators is the result of conceptual work, providing a basis for further description of health regions and serving as an inspiration for regions wishing to prioritize health in their development.
