Abstract
Purpose
The rapid development of urban areas in Sleman District, Indonesia, has created new challenges for firefighting response services. One of the primary challenges is to identify the optimal locations for new fire stations, to improve service quality and maximize service coverage within the specified time.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper proposes a method for precisely calculating travel time that integrates delay time caused by traffic lights, intersections and congestion. The study highlights the importance of precise calculation of travel time in order to provide a more accurate understanding of the service area covered by the fire stations. The proposed method utilizes network analysis in ArcGIS, the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and simple additive weighting (SAW) to accurately calculate travel time and to identify the best locations for new fire stations. The identification of new site was based on service safety, service quality, service costs and demographic factors and applied to the Sleman district in Indonesia.
Findings
The results showed that the total area covered by old and new fire stations decreased from 61% to 31.8% of the study area when the adjusted default speed scenario was implemented.
Practical implications
The results indicated that the default speed scenario could provide misleading information about the service area, while the adjusted default speed scenario improved service quality and maximized service coverage.
Originality/value
The proposed method provides decision-makers with an effective tool to make informed decisions on optimal locations for new fire stations and thus enhance emergency response and public safety.

Abstract
Purpose
The paper aims to examine the inhibition effect of NiO nanoparticles and the influence of liquid nitrogen immersion on the corrosion behavior of (NiO)x(Bi1.6 Pb0.4)Sr2Ca2Cu3O10-δ and (NiO)x (Bi, Pb 2223), where x = 0.00 and 0.05 Wt.% phase superconductor in 0.1 M Na2SO4 at 30°C.
Design/methodology/approach
This study was done using open-circuit potential electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization curves and chronoamperometry measurements.
Findings
Potentiodynamic polarization technique showed that NiO nanoparticles suppress both the anodic and cathodic parts of the polarization curves of (NiO)x(Bi, Pb)-2223 superconductor in 0.1 M Na2SO4 solution. A significant enhancement in the corrosion resistance of the prepared superconductors is observed on immersing them in liquid nitrogen. This is owing to the fact that immersion in liquid nitrogen increases the volume contraction of the superconductor matrix, causing the shrinkage of the pores and voids present in the samples and thus reducing the active surface area for the dissolution of (NiO)x(Bi, Pb)-2223 superconductor matrix.
Originality/value
This paper fulfills the need to investigate the corrosion behavior of superconductors and the influence of liquid nitrogen immersion on such behavior.

Purpose
This study aims to develop a comprehensive insolvency model tailored to Islamic banks, ensuring alignment with Shariah principles throughout pre-insolvency, bankruptcy and post-bankruptcy stages.
Design/methodology/approach
The research adopts a qualitative research method, using a desktop research approach. Primary sources and secondary sources are examined to gather information and draw conclusions.
Findings
This study presents a comprehensive insolvency model designed for Islamic banks, rooted in Shariah principles. The model covers pre-insolvency, bankruptcy (taflis) and post-bankruptcy stages, incorporating key Shariah parameters to ensure adherence to Islamic finance principles. It addresses challenges such as adapting to dynamic financial landscapes and varying interpretations of Shariah principles. Notably, the model recognizes the separate legal personality of Islamic banks and emphasizes transparency, fairness and compliance with religious obligations. In the post-bankruptcy stage, directors are urged to voluntarily settle remaining debts, aligning with ethical and Shariah-compliant standards.
Originality/value
The study contributes to the stability and growth of Shariah-compliant financial systems by extending insolvency principles to Islamic banks, providing a foundation for future research and policymaking specific to this context.

Abstract
Purpose
This research seeks to evaluate the impact of applying lean construction principles on the performance of reinforcement operations using a discrete-event simulation (DES) approach.
Design/methodology/approach
Process mapping of reinforcements operations was first established through field observation and interviews with construction managers involved in the selected project. Subsequently, quantitative data were gathered and then used to identify the best probabilistic density functions for each activity duration based on the fit-quality tests. Upon testing the validity of the real-world model, a lean simulation model was developed, using ARENA software, to investigate the impact of lean construction principles on the performance of such processes.
Findings
Lean principles are effective in enhancing the performance of the selected construction process. Output performance measurements for real-world model and lean model revealed that lean construction principles led to 41% improvement in process productivity, 14% enhancement in process efficiency and 17% reduction in cycle time.
Research limitations/implications
The statistical findings only represent the process under study (reinforcement process) and cannot be generalized to other construction activities. In order to draw generalizable conclusions, future works are needed to extend this study to different project sizes and more complex construction processes (e.g. bricklaying process and concrete pouring operations). Moreover, there are other factors such as labor skills, rework and uncertainty, site conditions that require further analyses for leaner construction projects.
Originality/value
The methodology and the techniques presented in this work can be used for decision making by analyzing various lean construction scenarios and evaluating their impacts on performance outcomes of any construction process prior to real-world implementation.

It redistributes income and wealth, plays an important role in poverty alleviation, and thus can contribute to grassroot development. This paper analyzes Zakah's role in this context, and suggests how this institution can be made an instrument of self‐reliance and sustainable development of those who live below poverty line.
