Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper, is to solve the problem of finite-time fault-tolerant attitude synchronization and tracking control of multiple rigid bodies in presence of model uncertainty, external disturbances, actuator faults and saturation. It is assumed that the rigid bodies in the formation may encounter loss of effectiveness and/or bias actuator faults.

Design/methodology/approach

For the purpose, adaptive terminal sliding mode control and neural network structure are used, and a new sliding surface is proposed to guarantee known finite-time convergence not only at the reaching phase but also on the sliding surface. The sliding surface is then modified using a proposed auxiliary system to maintain stability under actuator saturation.

Findings

Assuming that the communication topology between the rigid bodies is governed by an undirected connected graph and the upper bounds on the actuators’ faults, estimation error of model uncertainty and external disturbance are unknown, not only the attitudes of the rigid bodies in the formation are synchronized but also they track the time-varying attitude of a virtual leader. Using Lyapunov stability approach, finite-time stability of the proposed control algorithms demonstrated on the sliding phase as well as the reaching phase. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is also validated by simulation.

Originality/value

The proposed controller has the advantage that the need for any fault detection and diagnosis mechanism and the upper bounds information on estimation error and external disturbance is eliminated.

Abstract

Purpose

Agricultural waste and food sources are some of the pollutants of the environment. One of these wastes is the peel of fruits that cannot be consumed as food. In this regard, walnut husk (WH) and oleaster peel (PO) are known as two important sources of tannin and are bulky wastes. Because of the high percentage of tannin, these materials can be used as a natural source for the preparation of bio-mordant in the dyeing process.

Design/methodology/approach

In this study, Reseda and Madder were used as natural dyes in the presence of a mixture of two bio-mordants. WH and PO were selected as bio-mordant. All natural resources are extracted to obtain the juice. The phenolic percentage of tannin-containing extracts was evaluated and then it was used for wool yarns by premordanting method. The results of evaluating the fastness properties using the ISO method.

Findings

The most important achievement of this research is the use of agricultural waste in the dyeing process to reduce environmental pollution and create added value. All compounds rich in tannin have some phenolic components, therefore the amount of phenolic content of these extracts was evaluated. The effect of mixing the mordant on the color characteristics of the yarns was investigated and the results showed that changing the ratio of the combination of two mordant is effective on the K/S values. The results of evaluating the fastness properties using the ISO method showed that the washing, rubbing and light fastness in the presence of mordant is good, good and moderate, respectively.

Originality/value

In this paper, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, for the first time, the combination of two natural extracts obtained from agricultural waste has been used to create a new bio-mordant on fibers and improve stability.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effectiveness of a career management program embedded within a business module, with a specific focus on enhancing the employability of students.

Design/methodology/approach

The study involved five one-hour workshops based on the DOTS model, covering aspects like resume writing and professional communication. Surveys, using a structured questionnaire and a Likert scale, measured participants' perceived employability. The pre-survey included demographic details, while the post-survey evaluated the effectiveness of the Career development learning workshop. Incentives and QR codes were employed to boost participation, and data were collected at the semester's start and end, with responses linked through students' phone numbers.

Findings

The results confirmed a positive connection between the perceived effectiveness of skill programs and students' employability. Integration of career management into the curriculum cultivates a heightened professional mindset and boosts employability. Validation through a paired-samples t-test demonstrates a substantial increase in perceived employability after program participation, affirming the program's role in fostering psychosocial empowerment and elevating students' confidence in job seeking.

Originality/value

This pioneering research integrates a career management program into a business module, addressing employability challenges in Industry 4.0. It provides empirical evidence of the program's positive impact on students' perceived employability.
