Abstract
Purpose
This paper posits that business intelligence (BI) utilization is a strategic resource that significantly impacts the business sustainability of Public Listed Companies (PLCs) listed on Bursa Malaysia.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper presents a systematic review of the concepts related to business intelligence utilization. Then, the issues of PLCs business sustainability in Malaysia are reviewed. This paper subsequently argues the consequences of business intelligence utilization.
Findings
Based on the synthesis of the key points, this paper justifies the strategic impact of business intelligence utilization on the business sustainability of Malaysian PLCs.
Practical implications
This paper provides significant knowledge for business practitioners to gain insights into the critical role of business intelligence utilization and its strategic impact on business sustainability.
Originality/value
This paper dissects the strategic impact of business intelligence utilization from the perspectives of enhancing economic performance, environmental performance, and social performance.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aimed to examine the roles of big data analytics technological capabilities (BDATC) on the performance of private higher education institutions (PHEIs) in Malaysia. This study explored mediating effect of strategic agility (SA) between BDATC and PHEIs' performance. The moderating effect of enterprise risk management (ERM) influencing the relationship between SA and PHEIs performance was also examined.
Design/methodology/approach
To evaluate the hypotheses, data were collected from PHEIs in Malaysia using an online survey questionnaire. Structural equation modelling software SmartPLS 3.3.9 was used to analyse the 186 valid responses received.
Findings
This empirical research discovered that BDATC and SA have positive and significant impact on PHEIs' performance. BDATC has positive and significant influence on SA of PHEIs. Moreover, SA mediates the influence of BDATC on PHEIs' performance. ERM enhances the impact of SA on performance of PHEIs in Malaysia.
Originality/value
The findings contributed to the advancement of the resource-based view (RBV) theory and dynamic capability theory (DCT). Practitioners of PHEIs will understand how to maximise the resources and skills to improve BDATC, SA and ERM that eventually drive the performance of the practitioners' institution.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to propose a theoretical extension of the information system success model (ISSM) to evaluate enterprise resource planning (ERP) success at an organizational level in Jordan. It explores whether information quality, system quality and service quality have a positive impact on both perceived usefulness and user satisfaction as antecedents of organizational impact.
Design/methodology/approach
A questionnaire was undertaken to gather data from chief information officers among Jordanian firms, with a total of 134 valid returns tested via partial least squares structural equation modeling.
Findings
The results showed that most of the research hypotheses proposed are empirically supported, with the exception of the influence of service quality on user satisfaction which was extremely low.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first empirical work that measured ERP success from an organizational perspective in Jordan. It also provides insight into how the factor of perceived usefulness is incorporated into ISSM in the mandatory system case and its influences on organizational benefits.

Purpose
There is a growing importance of business intelligence systems (BIS) adoption in today’s digital economy age which is characterized by uncertainty and ambiguity considering the magnitude and influence of data-related issues to be solved in contemporary businesses. This study aims to investigate critical success factors that affect business intelligence efficiency based on the DeLone and McLean model in Jordanian banking industry.
Design/methodology/approach
A quantitative research method through a questionnaire was used to collect data from actual users who depend on business intelligence tools to make operational and strategic decisions in Jordanian banks. The data obtained were tested using the partial least squares–structural equation modeling approach.
Findings
The survey findings attest that system quality, information quality, user quality, user satisfaction and user performance are important factors and contribute to business intelligence efficiency in the Jordanian banking industry.
Practical implications
The findings gained from this work can help policymakers in Jordanian banks to improve the business intelligence success and organizational performance.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first of its kind to propose a theoretical model to assess drivers of BIS efficiency from the Jordanian banks’ perspective.

Abstract
Purpose
Despite the increasing role of the data warehouse as a supportive decision-making tool in today's business world, academic research for measuring its effectiveness has been lacking. This paucity of academic interest stimulated us to evaluate data warehousing effectiveness in the organizational context of Jordanian banks.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper develops a theoretical model specific to the data warehouse system domain that builds on the DeLone and McLean model. The model is empirically tested by means of structural equation modelling applying the partial least squares approach and using data collected in a survey questionnaire from 127 respondents at Jordanian banks.
Findings
Empirical data analysis supported that data quality, system quality, user satisfaction, individual benefits and organizational benefits have made strong contributions to data warehousing effectiveness in our organizational data context.
Practical implications
The results provide a better understanding of the data warehouse effectiveness and its importance in enabling the Jordanian banks to be competitive.
Originality/value
This study is indeed one of the first empirical attempts to measure data warehouse system effectiveness and the first of its kind in an emerging country such as Jordan.

(i) To determine the push and pull factors for a developing country SME to internationalize via exports. (ii) To evaluate the use of social networks in the internationalization journey of Yew Chian Haw (YCH). (iii) To analyse how a developing country SME adapts to local conditions in order to sustain and grow the business in a foreign country.
Case overview/synopsis
Yew Chian Haw (YCH) was a small and medium enterprise (SME) producing herbal and healthcare products in Penang, Malaysia. This case study traced the company's internationalization journey, focusing on how the owner used his social networks based on common ethnic ties and language to penetrate the external markets by establishing trading companies in each of his export destinations, from Singapore to Hong Kong and later to Taiwan and China. These internationalization activities also helped him cultivate deeper local networks and enhance his business opportunities in each investment destination. The social network approach has important implications for SME firms such as YCH. The network strength helped to overcome entry barriers to foreign markets and enabled YCH to tap into local complementary resources such as local networks to sustain the internationalization process. Yew’s successful internationalization journey prompted him to focus on the external market for his company’s herbal soup products. But now he must decide whether to continue the internationalization journey in the existing external markets he has penetrated or to expand towards other markets such as Northeast Asian markets like Japan and Korea, as these countries have high income and purchasing power. However, Yew has no extensive social network in both countries, especially in terms of ethnic ties and common language. Yew therefore, had a dilemma: should he just continue expanding the existing external markets he has successfully penetrated, or should he move forward and seek to enter new markets where his current social networks may be weak or non-existent?

Abstract
Purpose
The growing uncertainty in the world because of economic factors, political issues, natural disasters, global COVID-19 outbreak and technological advancements, make effective risk management (RM) an essential successful strategy for various industries, especially higher education (HE) industry to overcome uncertainties for success. The purpose of this systematic literature review (SLR) is to present a current overview of RM in HE from 2005 to 2021, with a focus on common risk management practised in HE industry, antecedents towards RM implementation and outcomes of RM.
Design/methodology/approach
The publication standard for this SLR was RepOrting Standards for Systematics Evidence Syntheses. Scopus, one of the most prominent scientific databases, was used to select articles. Only articles from the years 2005 to 2021 were studied. This study focussed on RM in the HE industry.
Findings
This review identified three main themes: common risk management practised in HE industry, antecedents towards RM implementation and outcomes of RM. An additional ten sub-themes were derived from the three main themes.
Originality/value
This paper systematically reviewed developments of RM research in HE from year 2005 to 2021, leads to a clearer understanding of RM issues in HE institutions. The findings allow interested parties to better understand RM and enables top management to create their own personalised list of drivers and implementation policies to respond to risks and uncertainties.

This paper aims to enable students craft a winning corporate strategy applicable for organizations in various contexts. The practical approach consists of conducting scenario planning based on internal and external environment analysis, identifying the winning factor, proposing an implementation strategy of entry and exit strategies, and future customers, and evaluating matching of business ethics and legality.
Case overview/synopsis
Wesley Chen, the executive director and group chief executive officer, has the ultimate challenge of leading his management team to operate from a sole proprietorship management style to a listed large company in the Malaysian Stock Exchange. He identified the gap in the need to craft a winning corporate strategy for business sustainability. The corporate strategy should address expansion of their service offerings and needs to be carefully crafted to suit TopSteel’s risk appetite and overall business strategy. The strategy must also consider the internal and external factors that TopSteel faced with, identify the core competency of TopSteel, build in strategic agility in the implementation plans to address the dynamic business landscape, and most importantly ensure the corporate strategy must be in compliance to ethical and legal standards. The case study documents the one year of transition of TopSteel’s operations with a strong focus on the strategic management process direction for a winning OEM+ model through the use of SWIM concept.

Abstract
Purpose
The Malaysian retail industry, which contributes toward almost 45 per cent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is on a downward trend. As such, the main purpose of this study is to improve the performance of the Malaysian retail industry through the incorporation of Industry 4.0 technologies. The incorporation of Industry 4.0 technologies in the retail industry has led to the emergence of Retail 4.0 which can also be defined as omni-channel retailing.
Design/methodology/approach
The adoption of Retail 4.0, which is a combination of omni-channel retailing and also novel technologies, has been proven to improve the performance of retailers in many countries. As such, the authors have given suggestions on how Retail 4.0 can be incorporated by Malaysian retailers for the betterment of the Malaysian retail industry.
Findings
Problems faced by retailers these days are boring `brick and mortar' stores, out of stock (OOS) issues, price discrepancy and long queues. Retail 4.0 has enabled retailers to overcome these problems by creating novel shopping experiences, better inventory management, and improved operational efficiency and also more informed decision making in real time.
Limitations
The incorporation of Industry 4.0 technologies in Malaysia is still in the infancy stage. As such, skilled professionals need to be brought in to help implement these technologies in the retail industry.
Practical implications
Omni-channel retailing and the usage of various technologies by `brick and mortar' stores is very appealing to Malaysia's Gen Y and Gen Z who make up 67 per cent of the country's population. The spending power of this young generation can help to boost the performance of the Malaysian retail industry.
Originality/value
To date, no known study has been done on the impact of Retail 4.0 on Malaysian retailers. The results of this study will be very valuable to managers who are keen to improve the performance of their respective retail channels.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine how virtual influencers (VIs) affect purchase intentions in tourism and hospitality e-commerce live streaming (THCLS) by focusing on the roles of VIs’ source credibility, trust in products, trust in VIs, emotional engagement, parasocial relationships and influencer–product congruence.
Design/methodology/approach
Survey data from 416 active viewers of VIs in THCLS were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling.
Findings
This study highlights the importance of the VIs’ source credibility, which positively affects trust in the product, trust in VIs and emotional engagement. However, source credibility does not have a positive impact on parasocial relationships. Trust in products positively influences trust in VIs. Emotional engagement and trust in VIs significantly influence parasocial relationships, which, positively affects purchase intentions. Influencer–product congruence strengthens the link between parasocial relationships and purchase intentions but does not moderate the relationship between trust in VIs and purchase intentions. No significant gender differences were observed, although minor discrepancies were noted in the effect of trust in products on trust in VIs. The importance–performance map analysis revealed that parasocial relationships are the most important factor influencing purchase intentions, while influencer–product congruence has the highest performance, trust in products is the least important and VIs’ source credibility has the lowest performance.
Practical implications
This study provides actionable insights for marketers leveraging VIs in the THCLS sector, emphasizing strategies to enhance VI credibility, foster parasocial relationships, ensure influencer–product congruence and adopt gender-neutral marketing approaches to effectively influence purchase intentions.
Originality/value
This study offers theoretical and practical insights into the role of VIs in THCLS, illuminating their impact on consumer behaviour and purchase intentions.
