Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to introduce a simplified method, based on an improvement to the actual second‐order approximation to magnetic hysteresis curves, to calculate an estimation of quasi‐static hysteresis loops of ferromagnetic materials.
Design/methodology/approach
The addition of a new dB(B) function is proposed to second‐order rational approximation for the upward and downward magnetic quasi‐static hysteresis loop. The new semi‐empirical approach is tested with typical cycles of commercial Ni‐ferrites (ferroxcube) and Ni standards using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM).
Findings
The model is simple and a fast tool to reproduce with reasonable accuracy the hysteresis loops based on appropriate parameters of materials under analysis. The proposed extension to the Rivas model has reduced the maximum difference between experimental and modeled values from 19 to 0.08 per cent in the approximation to different hysteresis cycles of the magnetic materials studied here.
Originality/value
This paper presents an improvement to second‐order rational functions approach for fitting of hysteresis loops with simple added functions.

Abstract
This chapter analyses the current situation and perceptions of quality assurance (QA) in adult education (AE) in Latvia. In the Latvian context, QA in AE is a challenge. According to recent studies, QA should have a formative character in order to facilitate targeted benefits for adult learners, whereas in practice AE in Latvia is more focussed on the institutional perspective rather than the individual’s needs and wishes. This is in contrast with the humanistic approach to adult learning and andragogy principles, which emphasise learner-centred education. The aim of the chapter is to research opportunities for improving the QA process in AE in Latvia in order to increase personal benefits for an individual. The systematic review of scholarly papers, monographs, scientific reports on QA in AE conducted in Latvia in the twenty-first century indicated a contradiction between the theoretical concepts applied to AE in Latvia and the implementation of the QA process in practice. This chapter contributes to the overall understanding of the terminology used in AE in the country, analyses the prevailing concepts and elaborates conclusions for QA improvements based on humanistic pedagogy principles.

Abstract
Purpose
Altmetrics is a complementary method in scientometrics for evaluating the performance of individuals, organizations, institutions and countries in social media. Due to the large volume of data related to the interactions in science, technology and innovation, there is no choice but to develop and implement accurate models for analysis and decision making. The Quadruple Helix Model examines the scientific outcomes in four spaces of innovation, knowledge, consensus and government with a distinctive attention to the “innovation space”. In other words, it aims to find the connection between the academic space and other sectors of a society (public, media and government) to see if scientific outputs respond appropriately to their needs.
Design/methodology/approach
The present paper studied the impact of health-related researches in D8 countries) including Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt and Nigeria) using the Altmetrics scores of their indexed journal in the Web of Science (WOS). The results demonstrated distribution of interactions of the mentioned four spaces in health science researches in terms of social media, geographical distribution and theme for D8 countries. This was conducted using content analysis, scientometric and altmetric indicators in the WOS and Altmetrics.com databases.
Findings
In D8 countries, more interaction has taken place in the knowledge and innovation spaces; however, there exist Quadruple imbalances in these countries. Moreover, some interactions have been observed in all social networks, displaying that users consider health topics in D8 countries, and clinical sciences has gotten more interaction in all the four spaces.
Originality/value
The application of this model using altmetrics data with current approach has been conducted for the first time.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present a ribbons production route of composition Fe78Si9B13 (%at.) using low cost noncommercial scrap materials to obtain usable magnetic cores by melt spinning technique and their characterization. This way, these may compete with the materials produced by conventional casting processes.
Design/methodology/approach
The methodology is to design a master alloy with scrap different starting compositions, to which Fe is added to get the desired atomic ratio of components. With this starting alloy, using the method of melt spinning, in its variant of chill block melt spinning, are achieved amorphous ribbons with desired soft magnetic behavior. Then these ribbons are thermally treated for achieve nanocrystalline structures to improve the performance in the magnetic cores.
Findings
The result of this paper shows that it is possible to recycle scrap materials, and re-used efficiently as components essential in part of electrical components. This way, these may compete with the materials produced by conventional casting processes.
Research limitations/implications
The limitation of this work to ensure that the scrap materials used is reasonably adequate to accomplish obtaining the master alloy, i.e. having reduced impurities.
Practical implications
The implications are important, because it assures that the components are recyclable and also high-tech in reference to energy saving that involves the production of amorphous and nanocrystalline materials in the electric industry. These products may compete with those produced by conventional casting processes.
Social implications
The social implications lead to awareness in recycling and energy saving as an option for social progress in technology.
Originality/value
The originality of the study is that it takes as a starting point for the final product (ribbon) noncommercial scrap materials of known composition and the obtained results are comparable to those that also are manufactured from the pure elements. The control of impurities is necessary in the production route. This way, these may compete with the materials produced by conventional casting processes. This process achieved a production with lower cost, high efficient energy products and high added value.

Purpose
Collaborative robotics and autonomous driving are fairly new disciplines, still with a long way to go to achieve goals, set by the research community, manufacturers and users. For technologies like collaborative robotics and autonomous driving, which focus on closing the gap between humans and machines, the physical, psychological and emotional needs of human individuals becoming increasingly important in order to ensure effective and safe human–machine interaction. The authors' goal was to conceptualize ways to combine experience from both fields and transfer artificial intelligence knowledge from one to another. By identifying transferable meta-knowledge, the authors will increase quality of artificial intelligence applications and raise safety and contextual awareness for users and environment in both fields.
Design/methodology/approach
First, the authors presented autonomous driving and collaborative robotics and autonomous driving and collaborative robotics' connection to artificial intelligence. The authors continued with advantages and challenges of both fields and identified potential topics for transferrable practices. Topics were divided into three time slots according to expected research timeline.
Findings
The identified research opportunities seem manageable in the presented timeline. The authors' expectation was that autonomous driving and collaborative robotics will start moving closer in the following years and even merging in some areas like driverless and humanless transport and logistics.
Originality/value
The authors' findings confirm the latest trends in autonomous driving and collaborative robotics and expand them into new research and collaboration opportunities for the next few years. The authors' research proposal focuses on those that should have the most positive impact to safety, complement, optimize and evolve human capabilities and increase productivity in line with social expectations. Transferring meta-knowledge between fields will increase progress and, in some cases, cut some shortcuts in achieving the aforementioned goals.
