Abstract
THE Fiberslip range of woven ptfe bearing materials, manufactured by Ampep Ltd, Clevedon, Avon, is well known in many fields and especially to aerospace designers. Demand for ever better improvements in bearing performance, particularly in helicopter rotating assemblies has led to a development programme to improve wear resistance and bedding‐down characteristics and this was undertaken by Ampep with collaboration from the Materials Department of the Royal Aircraft Establishment and the Materials Branch of the Ministry of Defence.

Abstract
The Engineering Education and Training National Conference, held on 15th and 16th October 1980, had its attractions but not such as would produce a ‘full house’; for at no time throughout the two days Conference, organised by the Institution of Electrical Engineers, at the excellent facilities provided by the Institution of Civil Engineers, was there any indication of the accommodation being fully occupied. True, the Great Hall was packed to capacity during the formal opening by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales but, on the second day the participants dwindled and the annexe, well provisioned with televised proceedings, housed only a few delegates.

He was very knowledgable and was very fond of telling his juniors how he had worked, many years previously, at Rolls‐Royce when that name really meant something.
