Abstract
The analysis of the magnetic field and computation of the leakage magnetic flux is important for optimum design of the motor, especially for the small machines on low voltage loaded from the accumulator battery. In our contribution we analyzed the computation of the leakage magnetic field and flux by means of analytical, respective numerical methods (Finite Elements Method — FEM).

Abstract
In our contribution we deal with the optimization of the magnetic circuit design of the high torque step motor by numerical solution of the motor magnetic field (the Finite Elements Method — FEM) and with the solution of some electrical parameters of this motor and we introduce the methodology of optimization of the motor size from the parameters dependant.
THE automatic handling of soft parts has so far been considered to be most problematic. Flexible automation is hampered by the essential characteristics of soft pieces, such as:
To achieve high working speed and high positional accuracy, the weight of a robot arm must be reduced.

A technique has been developed at IPA Stuttgart which allows automated assembly of elastomer and thermoplastic hoses. The development work includes both experimental and theoretical investigations.
Abstract
As far as we know, all work on externally blown flaps has been aimed at providing a basis for studies of the flight performance and handling qualities in respect of certain aircraft projects, one of which is the Dornier STOL transport aircraft. Theoretical work so far has only been possible in as much as the jet flap theory was extended to include any possible momentum distribution and finite jet thickness at the flap trailing edge. We know virtually nothing about the phenomenon of the jet flow spreading between the engine nozzle and the flap trailing edge. This question was studied on a simple wind tunnel model of an externally blown flap.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore to what extent senior executives, particularly within the German machinery and equipment small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), gather and apply knowledge pertaining strategic management (SM) tools. Furthermore, the study aims to provide research evidence as to whether or not the companies derive any performance enhancing benefit from the appliance of said with the knowledge.
Design/methodology/approach
The research relied on a self-administered questionnaire mailed or posted to the entire population of about 6,000 enterprises. The resulting data were analyzed with the statistical package for social science (SPSS) statistical software package.
Findings
Executives within the sector, especially those with a predominantly engineering background, lack both knowledge and understanding of SM in general and strategic tool-kits in particular. Interestingly, educational background, in association with toolkit usage, appears to enhance organizational performance.
Research limitations/implications
The German educational system, in conjunction with the associated professional development infrastructures, may impact the generalizability of the research findings.
Practical implications
The results from this study can be used for lobbying policy-makers and shapers, e.g. government, higher education, industry and professional bodies, to improve and expand engineering management education so that practitioners have the knowledge of and competency in SM.
Originality/value
The study provides an insight look of how executives in one of Germany’s most successful industries deal with the knowledge and application of SM tools and their impact on performance. Extant research has not dealt with Germany or this sector in relation to the appliance of strategy-related knowledge and performance.

Abstract
Previous articles in this series have dealt with the running‐in of engines by Vauxhall Motors Ltd., and by The Daimler Co. Ltd. We shall include several other British motor manufacturers in this series, but in this article we describe the procedure adopted by Daimler‐Benz A.G. and other German motor car companies for filtering and purifying running‐in lubricating oil. This article is reporduced from ATZ, Automobiltechnische Zeitschrift, Stuttgart, by kind permission of the Editor, Prof. Dipl.‐Ing. H. Buschmann.

Abstract
The British steelworks engineers, and others, included in the photograph, recently visited Germany to study methods and practices of lubrication in German steelworks, and to discuss operating problems with the Works Engineers. They also met members of the Verband Deutcher Eisenhuttenleuts (Lubrication Section) and interchanged views on common problems. The visit was arranged by Dr. Alfred Achemann (Chairman of De Limon Fluhme, Dusseldorf) on the German side, and H. Peter Jost (Managing Director of Centralube Ltd.) on the British side.

Abstract
It may be stated that in economically advanced countries of the world the increase in the recreation volume, expressed by the number of tourists, is considerably higher than the population growth. The reason why these two trends are not in proportion should be sought in changes in social environment, primarily in the altered impact of its components on the pattern and scope of needs of human society as a whole, including tourism and recreation. These statements hold good also of this country, the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
