Abstract
Purpose
The main objective of this study is to determine the patterns of suicidal ideation among undergraduate students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Design/methodology/approach
The study examined the pattern of suicidal ideation among undergraduate students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design. The study population comprised all the 28,673 undergraduate students of the university out of which 800 students were selected by stratified random sampling for the study. A questionnaire was used in gathering data for this study. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics, cluster and factor analyses. The study concluded that the patterns of suicide ideation among undergraduate students of Obafemi Awolowo University are passive. It is recommended that Obafemi Awolowo University students adopt the physical and online counselling services provided by the institution to aid their mental and psychological well-being.
Findings
Findings revealed that the prevalence of suicidal ideation among the students was low (89.9%). Result also showed that pattern of suicidal ideation was passive (85.2%). In addition, result showed that social isolation (31.3%), hopelessness (29.4%), disappointment with school result (26.5%) and unmet expectation (12.9%) were possible factors of suicidal ideation among undergraduate students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
Research limitations/implications
This study only established the patterns of suicidal ideation among students of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, without any reference to treatment of students with suicidal ideation. Since the patterns of suicidal ideation had been established, it is suggested that further research be conducted on the treatment and prevention of suicide among the students.
Originality/value
The research was conducted by the researchers, and data were adequately collected and prepared following research ethics and guidelines. Results were presented as revealed by the analysis of the data.

Purpose
This study aims to explore the collaborative potential of Microsoft Copilot and Anthropic Claude AI as an assistive technology in education and library services. The research delves into technical architectures and various use cases for both tools, proposing integration strategies within educational and library environments. The paper also addresses challenges such as algorithmic bias, hallucination and data rights.
Design/methodology/approach
The study used a literature review approach combined with the proposal of integration strategies across education and library settings.
Findings
The collaborative framework between Copilot and Claude AI offers a comprehensive solution for transforming education and library services. The study identifies the seamless combination of real-time internet access, information retrieval and advanced comprehension features as key findings. In addition, challenges such as algorithmic bias and data rights are addressed, emphasizing the need for responsible AI governance, transparency and continuous improvement.
Originality/value
Contribute to the field by exploring the unique collaborative framework of Copilot and Claude AI in a specific context, emphasizing responsible AI governance and addressing existing gaps.

Purpose
The study aims to investigate the potential of artificial intelligence chatbots in academic libraries along with the dangers associated with the technology.
Design/methodology/approach
Literature were sourced from Google scholar and Scopus database-indexed journals to assess the potentials and drawbacks of using ChatGPT (generative pretrained transformer).
Findings
The study found that ChatGPT can aid with technical and reader services such as answering basic reference inquiries, navigating the library website and assisting with research, cataloguing, classification and collection development. However, due to the risk of inaccurate query responses, misuse, limited comprehension, input limitation and technological reliance, it should be a complementary technology rather than a replacement for human librarians.
Originality/value
To the best of the author’ knowledge, this is one of the first articles reviewing the potential of ChatGPT in academic libraries.

This study investigates the transformative role of Sora in education and libraries. This study aims to explore Sora’s capabilities and potential implications for enhancing learning experiences and enriching library resources.
Design/methodology/approach
Using an exploratory approach, this paper analyzes Sora’s functionalities, focusing on its ability to convert textual descriptions into dynamic video content swiftly and accurately. It examines the ways in which Sora can augment learning through interactivity, personalization and accessibility, as well as its capacity to digitize cultural heritage and promote literacy in library settings.
Findings
Sora emerges as a potential powerful tool for education and libraries, offering opportunities for diverse learning modalities, creativity and critical thinking. Its capacity to facilitate immersive storytelling and educational gamification holds promise for engaging users and fostering community involvement. However, ethical considerations such as bias mitigation and equitable access must be addressed to maximize Sora’s benefits.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the understanding of artificial intelligence’s potential in education and libraries, particularly through the lens of Sora.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the perception and experience of counter pharmaceuticals in Nigeria compared to the European Union.
Design/methodology/approach
The findings from this paper are based upon a survey of 362 Nigerians sourced in public places with the data and then compared results from a survey by the European Union.
Findings
The key findings from this research showed some areas of similarity between Nigerians and Europeans on their views on the acceptability of purchasing counterfeits. However, Nigerians were more open to purchasing counterfeits despite the risks. There was also more anxiety over the risk of purchasing counterfeit medicines compared to the European Union.
Research limitations/implications
Due to security issues, survey data could only be sourced from Abuja, Lagos and the relatively peaceful southwestern region of Nigeria. The data is, therefore, not representative of Nigeria.
Practical implications
The purchasing experience of counterfeit medicines by Nigerians along with their anxieties highlights the need for more enforcement action to tackle this problem and reassure the public.
Social implications
The paper highlights the challenges of securing genuine pharmaceutical products in the Global South and the need for more greater cross-border action to tackle the problem.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first survey of Nigerian citizens on this issue.

This study explores the implementation of personalised information access, driven by machine learning, in Nigerian public libraries. The purpose of this paper is to address existing challenges, enhance the user experience and bridge the digital divide by leveraging advanced technologies.
Design/methodology/approach
This study assesses the current state of Nigerian public libraries, emphasising challenges such as underfunding and lack of technology adoption. It proposes the integration of machine learning to provide personalised recommendations, predictive analytics for collection development and improved information retrieval processes.
Findings
The findings underscore the transformative potential of machine learning in Nigerian public libraries, offering tailored services, optimising resource allocation and fostering inclusivity. Challenges, including financial constraints and ethical considerations, are acknowledged.
Originality/value

Abstract
Purpose
Small and medium-sized contractors are critical to micro and macroeconomic performance. These contractors in South Africa have long been confronted with the problem of business failure because of a plethora of factors, including poor productivity. The purpose of this study is to investigate salient issues undermining the productivity of small and medium-sized contractors in South Africa. This study proposes alternative possibilities to engender productivity improvement.
Design/methodology/approach
Qualitative data were collected using semi-structured interviews with 15 contractors in Gauteng Province, South Africa. The research data were analysed using content and causal layered analyses.
Findings
Challenges to contractors’ productivity were associated with inadequately skilled workers, management competence and political factors. Skills development, construction business and political factors were dominant stakeholders’ perceptions. Metaphors for construction labour productivity are presented and reconstructed as alternative directions for productivity improvement.
Practical implications
Contractors lose a substantial amount of South African Rand to poor productivity. Alternative directions provided in this study can be leveraged to increase profitability in construction organizations, enhance the social well-being of South Africans and ultimately improve the contribution of contractors to the South African economy.
Originality/value
The causal layered analysis (CLA) applied in this study is novel to construction labour productivity research. The four connected layers of CLA, which make a greater depth of inquiry possible, were explored to investigate labour productivity in construction organizations.
