Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to present a numeric modeling of the electromagnetic and thermal phenomena for the non‐ferromagnetic alloys casting equipment that control the solidification structure's formation.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper uses a numerical modeling program for the controlled solidification process modeling to allow visualization of the thermal field variation.
Findings
The probes cast using this method will have a uniform structure, without micro‐fissures. If the solid's part growth of the molten is controlled, we can stop the process that creates solidification centers, thus the material structure will be homogenous. A solution for this matter is given by the control of the solidification structure using forced heating of the liquid part with eddy currents and forced cooling of the solid part. The evolution of the area with eddy currents and the cooled one controls the phase transformation.
Originality/value
The paper presents a procedure to solve the coupled electromagnetic and thermal field problem in the casting systems techniques: solidification with controlled phase variation layer.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present the numerical modeling of the coupled electromagnetic and thermal fields for the controlled solidification process of non‐ferrous alloys.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper uses a numerical modeling program for the controlled solidification process modeling to allow visualization of the model and collection of the data. The data are then processed using spreadsheets in order to obtain graphic representations for the variations of the measured values.
Findings
The probes cast using this method will have a uniform structure, without micro‐fissures. It is presented here a computation method for the thermal field diffusion and the results of the numerical modelling of the thermal and electromagnetic fields during casting process with controlled solidification layer for the non‐ferrous alloys.

Abstract
Purpose
This article reports the results from a panel discussion held at the 2019 European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) on the use of technology-based autonomous agents in collaborative work.
Design/methodology/approach
The panelists (Drs Izak Benbasat, Paul Benjamin Lowry, Stefan Morana, and Stefan Seidel) presented ideas related to affective and cognitive implications of using autonomous technology-based agents in terms of (1) emotional connection with these agents, (2) decision-making, and (3) knowledge and learning in settings with autonomous agents. These ideas provided the basis for a moderated panel discussion (the moderators were Drs Isabella Seeber and Lena Waizenegger), during which the initial position statements were elaborated on and additional issues were raised.
Findings
Through the discussion, a set of additional issues were identified. These issues related to (1) the design of autonomous technology-based agents in terms of human–machine workplace configurations, as well as transparency and explainability, and (2) the unintended consequences of using autonomous technology-based agents in terms of de-evolution of social interaction, prioritization of machine teammates, psychological health, and biased algorithms.
Originality/value
Key issues related to the affective and cognitive implications of using autonomous technology-based agents, design issues, and unintended consequences highlight key contemporary research challenges that allow researchers in this area to leverage compelling questions that can guide further research in this field.

Abstract
Purpose
The e-commerce boom presents new challenges for last-mile delivery (LMD), which may be mitigated by new delivery technologies. This paper evaluates the impact of mobile parcel lockers (MPL) on costs and CO2 equivalent (CO2e) emissions in existing LMD networks, which include home delivery and shipments to stationary parcel lockers.
Design/methodology/approach
To describe customers’ preferences, we design a multinomial logit model based on recipients’ travel distance to pick-up locations and availability at home. Based on route cost estimation, we define the operating costs for MPLs. We devise a mathematical model with binary decision variables to optimize the location of MPLs.
Findings
Our study demonstrates that integrating MPLs leads to additional cost savings of 8.7% and extra CO2e emissions savings of up to 5.4%. Our analysis of several regional clusters suggests that MPLs yield benefits in highly populous cities but may result in additional emissions in more rural areas where recipients drive longer distances to pick-ups.
Originality/value
This paper designs a suitable operating model for MPLs and demonstrates environmental and economic savings. Moreover, it adds recipients’ availability at home to receive parcels improving the accuracy of stochastic demand. In addition, MPLs are evaluated in the context of several regional clusters ranging from large cities to rural areas. Thus, we provide managerial guidance to logistics service providers how and where to deploy MPLs.

Examines the seventeenth published year of the ITCRR. Runs the whole gamut of textile innovation, research and testing, some of which investigates hitherto untouched aspects. Subjects discussed include cotton fabric processing, asbestos substitutes, textile adjuncts to cardiovascular surgery, wet textile processes, hand evaluation, nanotechnology, thermoplastic composites, robotic ironing, protective clothing (agricultural and industrial), ecological aspects of fibre properties – to name but a few! There would appear to be no limit to the future potential for textile applications.

Abstract
This paper presents the results of an empirical investigation into the capital budgeting practices of UK multinationals for foreign direct investment, with particular reference to the use of a conceptual framework of risk and return. Drawing upon Robock's (1965) criticisms of the lack of a conceptual framework for businessmen within which to make international financing and capital budgeting decisions, we assess briefly the developments in the theoretical framework of risk and return since Robock's address. We then review the existing empirical literature (mainly from America) and combine this with our own research involving 59 UK multinationals, to conclude that the developments in the theoretical framework of risk and return have not been translated into practice. We offer suggestions as to why this is the case.

Abstract
One‐dimensional radiative heat transfer is considered in a plane‐parallel geometry for an absorbing, emitting, and linearly anisotropic scattering medium subjected to azimuthally symmetric incident radiation at the boundaries. The integral form of the transport equation is used throughout the analysis. This formulation leads to a system of weakly‐singular Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. The resulting unknown functions are then formally expanded in Chebyshev series. These series representations are truncated at a specified number of terms, leaving residual functions as a result of the approximation. The collocation and the Ritz‐Galerkin methods are formulated, and are expressed in terms of general orthogonality conditions applied to the residual functions. The major contribution of the present work lies in developing quantitative error estimates. Error bounds are obtained for the approximating functions by developing equations relating the residuals to the errors and applying functional norms to the resulting set of equations. The collocation and Ritz‐Galerkin methods are each applied in turn to determine the expansion coefficients of the approximating functions. The effectiveness of each method is interpreted by analyzing the errors which result from the approximations.

This paper aims to investigate the financial crises and the role of auditors in those crises. The paper is concerned with the banking system, as the last financial crisis in 2008 was provoked by the mortgage business and the big banks and risks management.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper choses to use data from corporations, practices and professional websites. The authors use interviews that were available and related to the subject matter. Academic works are also used to discuss the literature review and various issues.
Findings
The paper explores the auditors’ responsibilities and finds that there is a growing concern for auditing. This research is complex, as it discovers that corporate executives in the banking business should be more responsible; this is confirmed by the high risks in the financial area that still persists.
Research limitations/implications
This is a very complex topic; however, the authors designed it so that it can be read and used by non-accountants, that is to say, CEOs and governmental agencies that are in charge of the regulatory system. Further research studies are needed to ensure ongoing discussions about the financial crisis. The Word is not free from such bad economic events.
Practical implications
The contribution is important; this research can be used by organizations, governments and academics.
Social implications
The paper includes implications for the banking and auditing industries. It extends to the public interest.
Originality/value
This paper contributes to the literature for academic and can be used for teaching purposes. Students can understand the paper, as the authors did not use a regression model.
