Abstract

Purpose

Against the backdrop of dynamic capabilities theory, this research examines the relationship between knowledge and marketing agility in the context of big data marketing analytics (BDMA). The relevant knowledge constructs under investigation are business/marketing, relational, technological and technology management. The level of BDMA deployment is also examined to determine its impact on these relationships.

Design/methodology/approach

A survey was used to gather data from marketing professionals working in firms with at least limited experience in big data (BD) deployment in the United States and Canada. The results were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with a sample of 236 responses.

Findings

The results indicate that marketing professionals perceived the knowledge and marketing agility constructs differently than the previous research on IT professionals. The knowledge construct was perceived as a two-dimensional construct consisting of broad knowledge skills and specific technical knowledge skills. Only the broad knowledge skills construct was significantly related to the marketing agility construct, with progressively high predictive validity and relevance when the deployment of BDMA progresses.

Originality/value

The paper's originality stems from the different conceptualizations of the knowledge and marketing agility constructs due to the use of a novel sample of marketing professionals in this study. The research also contributes to the dynamic capabilities theory by emphasizing the critical role of vital knowledge when aiming to enhance marketing agility.

Abstract

Purpose

This article aims to understand the role of intermediaries that manage innovation challenges in the healthcare scenario. More specifically, it explores the role of digital platforms in addressing data challenges and fostering data-driven innovation in the health sector.

Design/methodology/approach

For exploring the role of platforms, the authors propose a theoretical model based on the platform’s dynamic capabilities, assuming that, because of their set of capabilities, platforms may trigger innovation practices in actor interactions. To corroborate the theoretical framework, the authors present a detailed in-depth case study analysis of Apheris, an innovative data-driven digital platform operating in the healthcare scenario.

Findings

The paper finds that the innovative data-driven digital platform can be used to revolutionize established practices in the health sector (a) accelerating research and innovation; (b) overcoming challenges related to healthcare data. The case study demonstrates how data and intellectual property sharing can be privacy-compliant and enable new capabilities.

Originality/value

The paper attempts to fill the gap between the use of the data-driven digital platform and the critical innovation practices in the healthcare industry.

Abstract

Purpose

The primary objective of this study was to aggregate and synthesize existing research findings in the realm of educational financing considering the adoption of educational technology (EdTech).

Design/methodology/approach

The study involves the application of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Model, considering the journal articles from the last 10 years (2013 through 2023) obtained from the EBSCO and Emerald Insight databases to perform a systematic literature review.

Findings

EdTech has given institutions new sources of income. The demand for online courses, credentials and other digital learning tools is rising, opening up new revenue potential for schools. Take-now-pay-post-placement is a new business model for the upskilling sector that enables learners to enroll in pertinent upskilling courses and pay back once they are placed (at a higher salary).

Originality/value

The development of technology has significantly lowered the overall educational cost, democratized access to education and empowered people to take charge of their education regardless of their location or socioeconomic status. With technology acting as a potent instrument to facilitate learning and close access barriers to education, this trend is expected to continue.

Abstract

Purpose

This article examines the opportunities to create optimal conditions for individuals with autism, to work successfully within the contemporary workplace and improve their well-being. These opportunities arise from digital technology (DT) development, enabling the work environment to be remodeled by providing new possibilities and ways of working. The author discusses both technology-based as well as non-technological accommodations supporting overcoming the workplace challenges faced by employees with autism.

Design/methodology/approach

A qualitative research was conducted with the use of in-depth interviews with 21 individuals with expertise in the field.

Findings

Possible technology-based work environment modifications and non-technological managerial practices facilitating work integration and the long-term well-being of individuals with autism were proposed. These solutions address four main problems: (1) effective communication; (2) time management, task prioritizing, and organization of work; (3) stress management and emotion control; and (4) sensory sensitivity.

Practical implications

Proposed solutions include primarily the wide usage of electronic mediated forms of communicating based on non-direct and non-verbal contact; a flexible approach towards work organization; accurate stress monitoring systems; and an individualized approach toward office space arrangements limiting external stimuli.

Originality/value

All this could lead not only to an increase in employment in individuals on the autism spectrum but also influence the improvement of the job performance of already employed. Modifications introduced could improve the long-term well-being of all employees, both with autism and neurotypical ones.
