Abstract
Purpose
This study investigates how social interaction-oriented content in broadcasters' live speech affects broadcast viewers' purchasing and gift-giving behaviors and how broadcaster popularity moderates social interaction-oriented content's effect on the two different behaviors in live-streaming commerce.
Design/methodology/approach
A research model was proposed and empirically tested using a panel data set collected from 537 live streams via Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok), one of the most popular live broadcast platforms in China. A fixed-effects negative binomial regression model was used to examine the proposed research model.
Findings
This study's results show that social interaction-oriented content in broadcasters' live speech has an inverted U-shaped relationship with broadcast viewers' purchasing behavior and shares a positive linear relationship with viewers' gift-giving behavior. Furthermore, broadcaster popularity significantly moderates the effect of social interaction-oriented content on viewers' purchasing and gift-giving behaviors.
Originality/value
This research enriches the literature on live-streaming commerce by investigating how social interaction-oriented content in broadcasters' live speech affects broadcast viewers' product-purchasing and gift-giving behaviors from the perspective of broadcast viewers' attention. Moreover, this study provides some practical guidelines for developing live speech content in the live-streaming commerce context.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the association between green innovation and the cost of equity in China. This study relies on the investors’ base perspective and shareholders’ perceived risk perspective to investigate the relation between green innovation and the cost of equity in China.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper uses firm-fixed effect regression for a sample of Chinese public companies for the period 2008–2018.
Findings
The authors find a negative relationship between green innovation and the cost of equity capital. This negative association is found to be more pronounced for less financially constrained firms, during periods of high economic policy uncertainty, and for firms with a strong internal control environment. Finally, the paper shows that the negative association became more pronounced after the passage of the Environmental Protection Law of China in 2012. The results remain robust to possible endogeneity concerns.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the green innovation literature by documenting that shareholders favorably view firms implementing green innovation policies. The study also has policy implications for Chinese regulators in improving the green credit policy.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to propose a train timetable rescheduling (TTR) approach from the perspective of multi-train tracking optimization based on the mutual spatiotemporal information in the high-speed railway signaling system.
Design/methodology/approach
Firstly, a single-train trajectory optimization (STTO) model is constructed based on train dynamics and operating conditions. The train kinematics parameters, including acceleration, speed and time at each position, are calculated to predict the arrival times in the train timetable. A STTO algorithm is developed to optimize a single-train time-efficient driving strategy. Then, a TTR approach based on multi-train tracking optimization (TTR-MTTO) is proposed with mutual information. The constraints of temporary speed restriction (TSR) and end of authority are decoupled to calculate the tracking trajectory of the backward tracking train. The multi-train trajectories at each position are optimized to generate a time-efficient train timetable.
Findings
The numerical experiment is performed on the Beijing-Tianjin high-speed railway line and CR400AF. The STTO algorithm predicts the train’s planned arrival time to calculate the total train delay (TTD). As for the TSR scenario, the proposed TTR-MTTO can reduce TTD by 60.60% compared with the traditional TTR approach with dispatchers’ experience. Moreover, TTR-MTTO can optimize a time-efficient train timetable to help dispatchers reschedule trains more reasonably.
Originality/value
With the cooperative relationship and mutual information between train rescheduling and control, the proposed TTR-MTTO approach can automatically generate a time-efficient train timetable to reduce the total train delay and the work intensity of dispatchers.

Abstract
Purpose
In recent years, increased awareness on global warming effects led to a renewed interest in all kinds of green technologies. Among them, some attention has been devoted to hybrid-electric aircraft – aircraft where the propulsion system contains power systems driven by electricity and power systems driven by hydrocarbon-based fuel. Examples of these systems include electric motors and gas turbines, respectively. Despite the fact that several research groups have tried to design such aircraft, in a way, it can actually save fuel with respect to conventional designs, the results hardly approach the required fuel savings to justify a new design. One possible path to improve these designs is to optimize the onboard energy management, in other words, when to use fuel and when to use stored electricity during a mission. The purpose of this paper is to address the topic of energy management applied to hybrid-electric aircraft, including its relevance for the conceptual design of aircraft and present a practical example of optimal energy management.
Design/methodology/approach
To address this problem the dynamic programming (DP) method for optimal control problems was used and, together with an aircraft performance model, an optimal energy management was obtained for a given aircraft flying a given trajectory.
Findings
The results show how the energy onboard a hybrid fuel-battery aircraft can be optimally managed during the mission. The optimal results were compared with non-optimal result, and small differences were found. A large sensitivity of the results to the battery charging efficiency was also found.
Originality/value
The novelty of this work comes from the application of DP for energy management to a variable weight system which includes energy recovery via a propeller.

Abstract
Purpose
This study introduces a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the foreign direct investment (FDI) literature by multinational corporations (MNCs) focusing on emerging economies to identify the most influential authors, journals and articles in FDI research and reveals the fields' conceptual and intellectual structures. The purpose of this paper is to address these issues.
Design/methodology/approach
The study analyzed 533 articles published between 1974 and 2020 in 226 academic journals indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases. We used the R language for statistical computing to map author collaboration, co-word and develop a conceptual and intellectual map of the field.
Findings
The results show that, although the FDI literature has many authors, few dominate the field. The International Business Review (IBR) and International Journal of Emerging Markets (IJoEM) are the main sources of the publications. Moreover, bibliometric laws show that our dataset follows the Lotka law of scientific productivity and Bradford law of scattering, identifying the core journals. Finally, FDI by MNCs in emerging economies research is divided into four sub-research themes related to (1) FDI determinants, (2) entry mode, (3) MNCs and FDI performance and (4) the internationalization process.
Originality/value
The current article provides several starting points for practitioners and researchers investigating FDI. It contributes to broadening the vision of the field and offers recommendations for future studies.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to test a proposed model that examines the mediating role of psychological meaningfulness and the moderating role of organizational identification in the relationship between visionary leadership and job crafting.
Design/methodology/approach
The study used a survey to collect data from 242 employees from various sectors in Jordan. The collected data was used to examine how visionary leadership impacts job crafting behaviors, relying on partial least squares structural equation modeling to test the study’s hypotheses.
Findings
By testing the proposed hypotheses, the results provided evidence that a positive relationship exists between visionary leadership and job crafting. Furthermore, the results indicated that psychological meaningfulness is a mediator. Lastly, the authors found that the relationship between visionary leadership and job-crafting behaviors is moderated by organizational identification.
Research limitations/implications
The study has limitations that should be considered. First, the cross-sectional design impedes establishing causal relationships between variables (Setia, 2016). Future research should use longitudinal or experimental designs for more robust evidence on the directionality and causality of identified relationships. Second, using self-report measures introduces potential common method bias. To enhance reliability, future studies could explore objective measures or alternative data collection methods. Lastly, the study’s findings are based on a specific sample and context, raising concerns about generalizability. Addressing this limitation requires replication across diverse industries, organizational sizes and cultural contexts to validate external validity.
Practical implications
This study emphasizes practical implications for organizations, advocating the development of visionary leadership skills to inspire an environment conducive to job crafting. Nurturing psychological meaningfulness is also crucial, with training programs designed to enhance both visionary leadership and the meaningfulness of work experiences. Additionally, the study underscores the amplifying role of organizational identification in strengthening the positive effects of visionary leadership on employees’ sense of purpose, suggesting initiatives to foster a sense of belonging for collective success.
Social implications
Socially, encouraging visionary leadership and meaningful work can enhance job-crafting behaviors, fostering a positive workplace culture. Emphasizing organizational identification may contribute to a sense of purpose among employees, promoting collective success. By prioritizing these aspects, organizations can positively impact the well-being and engagement of individuals within the broader social context, potentially influencing societal perceptions of work and leadership.
Originality/value
This study explores how visionary leadership affects job crafting through psychological meaningfulness and organizational identification. It shows that visionary leadership positively influences job crafting, emphasizing leaders’ role in fostering commitment. Using a moderated mediation model, it provides new insights into job crafting across various contexts.

Abstract
Purpose
A vaccination strategy to cover the susceptible population is key to containing the spread of any virus during a healthcare emergency. This study quantifies the susceptibility of a region based on initial infection rates to prioritize optimal vaccine distribution strategies. The authors propose a metric, the regional vulnerability index (RVI), that identifies the degree of susceptibility/vulnerability of a region to virus infections for strategically locating hubs for vaccine storage and distribution.
Design/methodology/approach
A two-phase methodology is used to address this problem. Phase 1 uses a modified Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (SIR) model, ModSIR, to estimate the RVI. Phase 2 leverages this index to model a P-Center problem, prioritizing vulnerable regions through a Mixed Integer Quadratically Constrained Programming model, along with three variations that incorporate the RVI.
Findings
Results indicate a weighting scheme based on the population-to-RVI ratio fosters fair distribution and equitable coverage of vulnerable regions. Comparisons with the public distribution strategy outlined by the Government of India reveal similar zonal segregations. Additionally, the network generated by our model outperforms the actual distribution network, corroborated by network metrics such as degree centrality, weighted degree centrality and closeness centrality.
Originality/value
This research presents a novel approach to prioritizing vaccine distribution during pandemics by applying epidemiological predictions to an integer-programming framework, optimizing COVID-19 vaccine allocation based on historical infection data. The study highlights the importance of strategic planning in public health response to effectively manage resources in emergencies.

Purpose
This paper aims to present the vertical integration state-of-the-art and propose an expansion of the operations and supply chain management (OSCM) field by identifying gaps and bottlenecks.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper uses a systematic literature review based on a sample of 173 OSCM field articles, collected from Scopus and Web of Science databases.
Findings
There are no single factors, such as future costs, structures or skills development, in the decision to vertically integrate operations. It is necessary to combine the vision of production costs with the perspective of governance and transaction costs. In addition, it is essential to consider the competency perspective and its impact on capability building.
Research limitations/implications
Few studies have attempted to understand how vertical integration is used in terms of OSCM research themes and theories. Vertical integration can help companies face challenges and serve as a potential solution for achieving better prices, demand control and quality management.
Practical implications
The significant role of vertical integration mechanisms in supply chains is crucial for managers evaluating a firm's reconfiguration with more vertical operations. Policymakers interested in supporting the smoothness of vertical integration decisions in regulatory agencies play a key role as contingencies.
Social implications
In times of global challenges, vertical integration is a strategy known to be more effective for firms to obtain a competitive advantage, making them more resilient.

Abstract
Purpose
Although women-owned small and medium enterprises (SMEs) represent only 21.1% of all SMEs in South Africa, they play a fundamental role in the SME sector in terms of job creation, employment and poverty alleviation that is critical for economic growth. This study aims to explore (FFIs) financing of women-owned SMEs in South Africa from a credit provider perspective (supply-side).
Design/methodology/approach
A qualitative research approach positioned in the interpretivistic research paradigm was used to accomplish this study objectives. The five-step process of content analysis proposed by Terre Blanche, Durrheim and Kelly was used to analyse the qualitative data collected from the 16 participants via semi-structured in-depth interviews.
Findings
The findings reveal that FFIs are willing to finance women-owned businesses provided they can contribute a reasonable percentage of the equity capital and a first-class collateral. Lack of equity, business experiences and first-class collateral are the most serious challenges faced by FFIs when considering lending to women-owned SMEs.
Originality/value
This study investigated the financing of women-owned SMEs in South Africa from a supply-side perspective, compared to other studies that used quantitative methodology. This study findings provide insights into how FFIs perceive financing women-owned SMEs, women-owned SMEs credit approval rate, the factors that influence the willingness of FFIs to provide credit to women-owned SMEs and the challenges experienced by FFIs in financing women-owned SMEs.
