Abstract

Purpose

Hybrid nanofluids have remarkable characteristics for improving the process of heat transfer. The findings suggest hybrid nanofluids are beneficial heat transfer fluids for industrial uses. Therefore, this article aims to investigate the Darcy–Forchheimer flow of Zn-TiO2/H2O hybrid nanofluids through a vertically porous shrinking cylinder.

Design/methodology/approach

The thermal transportation phenomenon of radiated hybrid nanomaterials is studied subject to linear thermal radiation and chemical species with the consequence of non-uniform heat source/sink influence. The controlling flow and energy equations in the form of governing hybrid nanofluids are developed and then converted into ODEs by operating appropriate resemblance variables. Using the impacts of controlling parameters, the behaviors of flow constraints are interpreted graphically.

Findings

The current study’s outcomes reveal that the water-based hybrid nanomaterials show a promising upsurge in heat transfer rate. Similarly, as the mass transfer rate grows, the drag coefficient and energy transfer rate boost, while due to curvature relations, it tends to diminish for drag friction. In an upper branch solution, the flow field is improved by greater porosity parameter values, whereas in a lower branch solution, it deteriorates. Furthermore, the velocity profile depicts the opposite trend for upper and lower branches due to a boost in the mixed convection parameter.

Originality/value

In light of already conducted studies, the relation of internal heat source varying regarding thermal and space in the rheology of hybrid TiO2-Zn/H2O nanofluid possesses intriguing utilization in energy production strategies due to the exhibition of extensive heat energy. The most typical examples of this phenomenon can be observed in nuclear and chemical-reactor power stations, solar power plants for heating and cooling systems, combustion analysis equipment and so on. The current study is devoted to predicting the effect of a varied heat source on the thermal energy characteristics of mixed convective hybrid TiO2-Zn/H2O nanofluid flow through the vertical cylinder.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to examine the influence of digital financial literacy (DFL) on the financial well-being (FWB) of students in Andhra Pradesh, specifically exploring the factors of impulsivity and self-control. Both DFL and FWB are treated as multi-dimensional constructs in the study. The research delves into the impact of DFL dimensions, viz. digital financial knowledge, digital financial experience and digital financial skills, on both impulsivity and self-control. Subsequently, the study assesses the effects of impulsivity and self-control on financial well-being.

Design/methodology/approach

To gather data, a questionnaire-based survey method was employed, reaching 475 university students through purposive sampling. The study utilizes confirmatory factor analysis for scale validation and structural equation modeling for hypothesis testing.

Findings

The results reveal a significantly negative influence of digital financial knowledge (DFK), digital financial experience (DFE) and digital financial skills (DFS) on impulsivity, while demonstrating a significantly positive impact on self-control. Additionally, the study finds that impulsivity negatively affects financial well-being, whereas self-control has a positive impact. Focusing on higher education institutions in Andhra Pradesh, the research highlights students’ limited concern for long-term financial planning.

Originality/value

This study underscores the relevance of understanding the crucial role of digital financial literacy in enhancing their financial well-being. The implications of these research findings are substantial and can be utilized to shape educational programs for students in higher education institutions. Such programs can guide institutions in imparting knowledge and skills related to personal finance management, particularly in the context of the increasing digitalization of financial transactions.

Abstract

Purpose

Induction heating as an energy source is a novel, recent method in extrusion-based metal additive manufacturing. The purpose of this paper is to develop an optimized coil for extrusion-based metal wire additive manufacturing. The optimized coil is so designed that uniform temperature distribution can be achieved in the extruder, achieving uniform material deposition in a semi-solid state, which is required for additive manufacturing.

Design/methodology/approach

Coil shape optimization is achieved by using arrangement of coil turns as a control variable in the form optimization process, and the objective function is to minimize the gradient in the distribution of the magnetic field to achieve uniform heating in the extruder for maintaining consistent solid and liquid fraction during material deposition. A combination of numerical solutions and geometrical optimization has been used for this study.

Findings

Experimental and simulation results reveal that the optimized induction coil produced a more uniform axial temperature distribution in the extruder, which is suitable for maintaining a uniform solid-to-liquid fraction ratio during material deposition.

Originality/value

The author has investigated the use of optimized-shaped induction coils in extrusion-based additive manufacturing. The optimized coil can achieve a more uniform temperature distribution in the extruder in comparison to the standard helical coil used in the existing process, which means optimized coil achieves a more uniform solid-to-liquid ratio during printing in comparison to existing standard coil shapes used for heating extruders and fulfils the requirement of additive manufacturing.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to identify factors that affect the intention and actual adoption of cashless payment (ACP) among Vietnamese youths. Extending the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model with two impelling factors (perceived trust [PTR] and lifestyle compatibility [LCM]), this study also examined the mediating effect of intention to adopt cashless payment (ICP) on the relationships of UTAUT model components with the actual ACP.

Design/methodology/approach

All data were collected online from 422 Vietnamese youths through online survey, and partial least squares structural equation modelling was performed to analyse the data.

Findings

The study’s results illustrated the positive and significant effects of performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, LCM and PTR on ICP. However, social influence was found to exhibit a negative effect on ICP. Furthermore, ICP was found to contribute no mediation effects on the relationships of any of the components with the actual ACP.

Practical implications

This study’s findings are widely useful for marketers and managers to plot their promotional and campaigning strategies, emphasising factors that motivate consumers to adopt cashless payment. The obtained findings also benefit architects and designers in designing products and services by consolidating lifestyle standards and other requirements of consumers. Policymakers should implement policies and strategies to enforce rules and educate the public to widely adopt cashless payment across various sectors.

Originality/value

This study extended the UTAUT model with two new variables, i.e. PTR and LCM.

This academic analysis explores the dynamic landscape of wellness tourism from 1998 to September 2021, emphasizing the surge in scholarly publications post-2010, primarily contributed by the United States. Key findings identify major authors, significant papers, and evolving trends while acknowledging research limitations and offering recommendations. Additionally, the 2022 study highlights 10 pivotal elements enriching holistic health resorts, coupled with strategic marketing and DMO influence. A comprehensive review utilizing the PRISMA methodology reveals two significant research clusters, focusing on tourist motivations and behavior, anticipating post-pandemic research and the need for diverse data sources. Wellness tourism embodies dynamism and diversity, driven by an ever-growing yearning for well-being, relaxation, and self-care. Travelers can choose from a broad spectrum of dimensions and destinations to personalize their wellness journeys according to their unique aspirations and goals, making it an exceptionally adaptable and customized form of travel. The industry's trajectory is set for continued expansion and transformation as more individuals acknowledge the paramount importance of nurturing their holistic well-being. However, a notable research gap is identified: the incorporation of cutting-edge technologies like wearable technology, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence in wellness tourism remains underexplored. This study addresses this void by investigating the utilization of technology to craft personalized and immersive wellness experiences, its impact on traveler preferences and behavior, and its role in destination management and marketing strategies. Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to design and apply a critical framework for assessing the inclusivity of gender diversity training. The framework combines insights from intersectional feminist and postcolonial feminist theory. It is applied to assess whether and how influential gender diversity training manuals question the (re)production of systems of inequality and promote the recognition of varied lived experiences of women particularly in global workplaces.

Design/methodology/approach

This qualitative research was done in two stages. First, we designed a critical framework consisting of five elements taking inspiration from intersectional and postcolonial feminist theories. Second, we analysed four gender diversity training manuals from prominent international organizations to assess their inclusivity.

Findings

We found that gender diversity training manuals construct a binary understanding of gender, implying that being a woman is a universal experience. Second, the documents take a systemic approach to intersectionality, acknowledging societal systems, but the focus is on oppression as opposed to privilege, obscuring possible complexities of intersecting social categories. Third, the narratives of gender diversity trainings reflect western hegemony in referring to “global norms” and women from the global south.

Originality/value

The paper brings together complex theoretical strands of intersectional and postcolonial feminist theory in the form of a critical framework that can not only be used to assess gender diversity training but also be applied to other gender diversity interventions. Practical suggestions for trainers to develop more inclusive gender diversity trainings are discussed.

Abstract

Purpose

This research aims to uncover how the adoption process of a mobile payment solution unfolds in its local use. We examined micro-enterprises’ adoption of UPI-based payment system in India.

Design/methodology/approach

We employed an ethnographic approach to study the micro-entrepreneurs’ daily practice and adopted a relational ontology to conduct an “in-practice” enquiry of the UPI payment adoption process.

Findings

Applying the practice perspective of Technology Affordances and Constraints Theory, we found that UPI adoption was shaped through a dynamic interplay of emerging affordances and constraints. New features, such as All-in-one QR, enabled actions like cross-platform money transfer but also introduced challenges like fraud. Advancements in the technology addressed previous challenges but also created new hurdles. This cycle of evolving affordances and constraints within the contextual use of UPI payment technology shaped its adoption process.

Research limitations/implications

The findings contribute to the existing body of mobile payment literature by elucidating the role of localized and ongoing enactment of affordances and constraints. Unlike existing adoption theories, using relational concepts of affordances and constraints revealed how the integration of mobile payment into practice leads to emergent use patterns and widespread adoption.

Practical implications

We emphasize the need for solutions that address localized challenges and contextual needs. The study advises policymakers to consider technology’s benefits and limitations in interventions.

Originality/value

The study offers a unique view on mobile payment adoption, highlighting the role of technological materiality and temporality. It reveals how the changing materiality of technology shapes the adoption process through localized affordances and constraints.

Abstract

Purpose

The role of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in stimulating economic growth and innovation underscores the crucial need to understand the factors that influence their participation in public sector markets. Drawing on network theory, this research delves into the interaction effect of innovation culture and collaborative relationships on SME participation in public procurement. It assesses how collaborative relationships can serve as a vital mediator, enhancing the impact of innovation culture on SME participation in public procurement.

Design/methodology/approach

The research was carried out with 248 SME suppliers in Ilala district, located in the Dar es Salaam region of Tanzania, utilizing a questionnaire survey and a stratified random sampling technique. Structural equation modeling (SEM) and the Hayes PROCESS macro were employed to analyze the data.

Findings

The study findings highlight collaborative relationships as a pivotal mediator between innovation culture and SME participation in public procurement. Although no direct link between innovation culture and SME participation in public procurement was established, the results indicate a noteworthy positive influence of innovation culture on collaborative relationships, subsequently affecting SME participation in public procurement.

Practical implications

The research underscores the significance of promoting an innovation-driven culture to support the participation of SMEs within public procurement activities. Additionally, the research offers valuable perspectives on the role of collaborative relationships in stimulating innovation and achieving success in public procurement, guiding SME managers, policymakers and industry stakeholders in cultivating productive relationships and partnerships.

Originality/value

The research enhances both theoretical and practical insights, adding to the literature that addresses the effects of innovation culture and collaborative relationships on SME participation in public procurement. These insights can be valuable to policymakers and SME managers in designing appropriate strategies that foster an innovative culture and explore the benefits of collaborative relationships for effective participation in public procurement.

Abstract

Purpose

The natural ventilation in tall buildings is significantly different from that in low-rise buildings. It is imperative to record the wind available on site as a prerequisite for designing wind-driven natural ventilation. This paper aims to establish the significance of collecting site-based wind data and highlights the gap between the observed wind speed and the one used in practice.

Design/methodology/approach

The method consists of experimental study to determine the available wind speed for a 100-metre-high building in a warm and humid climate. The analytical mathematical model that uses the interpolation method based on secondary wind data was used to equate wind velocity at such heights. The study compares both methods to understand the gap in predicting the vertical wind profile.

Findings

The existing practice of using a wind rose and predictive mathematical model needs to be confirmed with site-based wind data before being used as an input parameter for designing for natural ventilation on upper floors.

Research limitations/implications

Further studies can be undertaken to establish the variation of wind speed at the midriff of the building, derive an average rate of decrease in wind velocity and give a generalised wind input as a design guideline. A correction factor for the change in wind velocity can be helpful in determining the wind profile in the vertical component closest to the real-time data. The study is limited to outdoor wind velocity at various heights encountered at the windward side of the building. The study is region-specific.

Originality/value

The practice by designers and architects to use wind rose, composed of wind data available at 10-metre height, to design for naturally ventilated high-rise buildings is redundant. The study shows that the wind velocity profile changes beyond 20 metres. The prospect of a sustainable high-rise project is dependent on efficient natural ventilation, and hence the input wind velocity cannot be generic.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aimed to observe the effect of workplace spirituality (WPS) on employee silence. In addition, the study investigated the mediating role of workplace incivility on the relationship of WPS with employee silence. We further explored the WPS–workplace incivility link by testing the dark triad as the moderator.

Design/methodology/approach

We collected time-lagged data from 403 employees in the Indian hospitality industry. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) were used to observe the linkages among the study variables.

Findings

The results revealed that WPS is associated negatively with employee silence. The dark triad moderated the association between WPS and workplace incivility. Workplace incivility significantly mediated the association between WPS and employee silence.

Practical implications

The study findings would help organizations in promoting WPS to alleviate the occurrences of uncivil behavior at work and comprehend the negative consequences of workplace incivility such as employee silence.

Originality/value

To the best of the author’s knowledge, this study is the first of its kind to explore the linkage between WPS and employee silence. The paper makes a significant contribution by analyzing the interactive effect of personal (dark triad), environmental (WPS) and behavioral (workplace incivility) factors on employee silence.
