Abstract
Purpose
Using an Integrative Literature Review (ILR), this study aims to investigate the components defining the Safe and Just Operating Space (SJOS) within food systems and assess their applicability in decision-making for public food procurement (PFP).
Design/methodology/approach
Data concerning SJOS implementation in food systems and the criteria used in PFP were retrieved from the Web of Science and Scopus databases, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol.
Findings
The analysis of the literature highlights that climate change (n = 31; 17%) and water use (n = 29; 16%) are the primary focus areas regarding Planetary Boundaries (PB), followed the nitrogen cycle, land use, biodiversity loss and the phosphorus cycle. In PFP, key criteria linked to PB encompass climate change (n = 19; 7.2%), water use (n = 17; 6.44%) and chemical pollution (n = 17; 6.44%). The social and ethical dimensions underscore labour (n = 18; 6.82%), water (n = 17; 6.44%), income (n = 16; 6.06%) and energy (n = 16; 6.06%).
Research limitations/implications
Despite the strengths of this study, certain limitations should be acknowledged. Although the inclusion and exclusion criteria for the reviewed articles were clearly defined, it is possible that relevant literature was unintentionally excluded. Expanding the scope to include grey literature – such as government documents, reports, policy statements and statistical reports – could provide additional insights and broaden the scope of the findings. Moreover, the search was limited to the Web of Science and Scopus databases, which may have resulted in the omission of relevant studies, particularly those published in non-English languages or not indexed journals.
Practical implications
The identified procurement criteria can help public administrators develop guidelines and tools for food procurement that consider the SJOS.
Social implications
This paper offers an understanding of the connection between planetary processes and human well-being in the context of PFP.
Originality/value
This pioneering research lays the groundwork for future agendas in this field and encourages reflection on critical factors essential for selecting methods and standards applied in practical public procurement.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore the key attributes of robot chef restaurants and their influencing factors from the perspective of customers and analyzes how these key attributes affect customer perceived value.
Design/methodology/approach
A mixed-methods research design was used in this study. Using 473 online reviews and ratings (Study 1), the research summarized customers’ evaluations on three types of attributes (environment, service and food) and identified the key attributes along with their influencing factors. Subsequently, through field questionnaires (Study 2) involving 269 actual customers, structural equation modeling was used to analyze how the identified key attributes and their influencing factors impact customer perceived value.
Findings
This study reveals that customers in robot chef restaurants prioritize food attributes, particularly valuing food authenticity alongside food quality. In contrast to traditional restaurants, customers’ evaluations of food attributes in robot chef restaurants are significantly influenced by the competence of robot chefs. Notably, customers’ negative attitudes toward robots diminish the positive effects on both food quality and food authenticity.
Practical implications
To enhance customer perceived value, robot chef restaurants should concentrate on food attributes. They can achieve this by fostering a high-quality, authentic food experience through the elevation of robot chefs’ competence and by providing customer education.
Originality/value
This study expands research on the customer experience in robotic restaurants by proposing an integrated model determining factors that affect the perceived customer value.

Abstract
Purpose
Framing by dual concern theory (DCT), this study aims to examine how personality traits influence conflict resolution strategies and their impact on fascination and relationship maintenance among romantic partners within the unique context of romantic travel. By focusing on the influence of the travel environment, this research explores how shared travel experiences may alter typical relationship dynamics.
Design/methodology/approach
Using composite-based structural model analysis and importance–performance map analysis (IPMA), the study prioritizes factors contributing to relationship quality, with a specific focus on how the travel environment shapes gender differences in conflict resolution preferences. IPMA ranks these traits and strategies based on their impact on fascination and relationship maintenance in a travel context. Data were collected from romantic partners during travel and analyzed for gender-specific trends.
Findings
The findings reveal that personality traits, particularly openness, play a critical role in shaping conflict resolution strategies such as integrating, obliging and compromising, which in turn enhance fascination and relationship maintenance. Factors such as openness should be prioritized for their significant impact on relationship quality, especially among women, while integrating, agreeableness and obliging are likely to be more influential among men. In addition, the study highlights gender differences in conflict resolution preferences and their impact on relationship dynamics.
Originality/value
This study extends DCT by demonstrating how the romantic tourism environment influences established relationship dynamics, particularly the role of personality traits in conflict resolution. It offers novel insights into how travel settings affect the maintenance of romantic relationships, revealing that relationship practices can shift during travel. Practically, tourism practitioners and destination marketers can leverage these findings by designing romantic travel experiences that foster collaborative conflict resolution and address gender-specific needs. Policymakers are encouraged to create supportive environments for romantic travelers, enhancing satisfaction and relational outcomes.

Abstract
Purpose
This critical reflection aims to introduce a five-step process to develop and validate experimental scenarios.
Design/methodology/approach
The five-step process was developed by analyzing academic articles, research methodology books and encyclopedias. The researcher then synthesized the learnings and formulated foundational steps for developing and validating experimental scenarios. To illustrate this process, an example of its application in a service innovation acceptance study is presented.
Findings
A review of academic sources revealed a lack of clear guidance on developing and validating experimental scenarios. The synthesis of fragmented information in the literature resulted in a five-step process for developing and validating experimental scenarios.
Research limitations/implications
The resulting process serves as a first-of-its-kind research guide that enhances the validity and replicability of scenario-based experiments while addressing the gaps in scenario development and increasing the accessibility and impact of experimental research.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the body of knowledge by addressing a methodological shortcoming in the literature, providing a clear process for developing valid experimental scenarios. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this is the first time that a systematic, easy-to-follow process for developing and validating scenarios is advanced.

Abstract
Purpose
Risk assessment and risk management planning are integral to reducing risk of future violence in forensic settings. Over the past decade, emphasis has been placed on involving service users in this process. Nonetheless, service user knowledge of violence risk assessments such as the Historical-Clinical-Risk Management-20, Version 3 (HCR-20v3) and collaborative risk assessment is often limited. This service evaluation aimed to assess the effectiveness of a pilot Understanding Risk programme, on increasing knowledge of the HCR-20v3 and insight into risk of violence.
Design/methodology/approach
The methodology used was a within-subjects design, collecting quantitative data before and after intervention. Participants’ beliefs and attitudes supportive of violence, and perceptions of their recovery, were assessed using a semi-structured HCR-20v3 questionnaire, the Maudsley Violence Questionnaire and the Recovery Assessment Scale – Domains and Stages. An HCR-20v3 historical factor checklist was also completed. The final sample (n = 11) consisted of low and medium secure forensic inpatients.
Findings
The results of this study indicated that after intervention, participants had significantly greater knowledge of the HCR-20v3 and more positive perceptions of their functional and personal recovery. Significant changes were not observed on the Maudsley Violence Questionnaire total score; however, further analysis indicated significantly lower scores on the “acceptance of violence” subscale after intervention.
Practical implications
The Understanding Risk programme was associated with positive changes across treatment domains in a small sample of forensic inpatients. Specifically, improvements were observed for increased knowledge of the HCR-20v3, attitudes towards recovery and non-acceptance of violence. It would be of clinical benefit to replicate this study across different levels of security to increase the generalisability of findings. This study shows promise for the efficacy of the Understanding Risk programme among forensic inpatients.
Originality/value
This service evaluation provides preliminary support for the benefits of educating and involving service users in violence risk assessment.

Abstract
Purpose
Packaging-free shopping disrupts the usual retailing and consumption patterns in which packaging usually plays a central role. When manufacturers no longer offer predetermined packaging, how do retailers and consumers ensure packaging functions? Investigating the way packaging-free actors appropriate packaging functions during use is particularly important because they exert a new power over these functions, which can be challenging to appropriate. The purpose of this study is to contribute to a deeper understanding of why packaging-free shopping can be perceived as constraining.
Design/methodology/approach
Drawing from the literature on packaging functions and adopting Miller’s conceptual framework of appropriation, this research uses a qualitative method with a variety of discursive and visual data, including 54 interviews with experts from packaging-free product stores and consumers, 190 Instagram consumer posts and 428 in-store and at-home photographs.
Findings
This research shows that packaging-free actors jointly appropriate packaging functions through two modes of appropriation (assimilation and accommodation) each encompassing distinct strategies and highlights the misappropriation that actors can experience, especially when prioritizing one function over another.
Originality/value
This research contributes to the literature on packaging-free shopping, an emergent and growing trend that challenges conventional shopping models. The research reveals dark sides of packaging-free shopping – namely, the damaging effects on health and the environment and social exclusion. In particular, it discusses the ambivalence of the packaging-free shopping environmental function. This research also deepens insight into how individual acts of appropriation may lead to misappropriation.

Abstract
Purpose
Despite the increased retrofitting of Finnish residential buildings, there are limited post-retrofit studies on the actual measured indoor environmental quality (IEQ) and occupant satisfaction during summer-time. This paper provides a better understanding of the actual performance of retrofitted residential apartment buildings in Finland, focusing on some aspects of and the risk of summer overheating through post-occupancy evaluation (POE).
Design/methodology/approach
The study used both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, including satisfaction surveys, indoor air temperature and relative humidity measurements, self-reported behaviour forms, open-ended discussions, and site visits in five apartments in different residential buildings in Tampere city, monitored during the summer-time, for at least 2 weeks at a time.
Findings
While occupants were positive regarding most aspects of IEQ, concerns about indoor air quality (IAQ), summer overheating and acoustic comfort were raised. The summer-time monitoring highlighted that indoor air temperatures could reach as high as 27 °C for 2–9 days depending on the monitored apartment. Little cloud cover and warmer outdoor temperatures directly influenced indoor air temperature overheating. For some aspects of the investigated IEQ parameters, it was noted that while occupants’ satisfaction was influenced by the length of their residence, their acceptance of the same conditions remained positive over time (i.e. more than one year) as they adapted over time.
Research limitations/implications
The number of participants and case studies was relatively small due to the well-known difficulty in gaining access to private homes, so the results do not allow generalisation but do provide interesting insights of these specific cases to be validated with future additional research. The short sequential rather than long-term parallel monitoring of the case study apartments was another limitation making comparison between cases and understanding reasons for differences difficult.
Practical implications
Findings highlight the need to maintain the performance of housing in Finland during summer-time. The highlighted subjective issues emphasised in this study underscore the necessity for enhanced pre- and post-retrofit quality processes and the prompt resolution of issues as they arise. The integration of POE studies into all residential construction practices becomes pivotal for the advancement of sustainable homes now, but also in the future, especially when subjected to a warming climate.
Originality/value
This study is among the few POE studies conducted in Finland, offering insights into post-retrofit performance and occupant satisfaction during the summer-time. The study highlights the potential of POE to understand the performance of retrofitted Finnish apartments from a user-centric perspective.
