Abstract

Purpose

This study examines the influence of restaurant location and innovative restaurant practices on the performance of restaurant. The study further explores the moderating role of innovative restaurant practices in the relationship between restaurant location and performance.

Design/methodology/approach

The study employs a cross-sectional survey design. Data were gathered via structured questionnaires from 281 restaurant managers in Tanzania. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was employed to assess the validity of the measurement model, while hypotheses were tested with the PROCESS macro.

Findings

The results indicate that both restaurant location and innovative practices significantly influence restaurant performance. Moreover, the implementation of innovative practices not only directly enhances performance but also strengthens the positive effect of a location on performance. This highlights the critical role of innovation in optimizing the benefits of a strategic location.

Practical implications

Restaurant owners should carefully choose locations for their business to enhance performance. They should also prioritize innovation through unique menu items, technology and creative marketing strategies to enhance performance. Additionally, owners and managers should focus on integrating innovation with location strategy, as innovative practices strengthen the effect of location on overall restaurant performance.

Originality/value

This research contributes to the limited empirical evidence on the influence of location and innovative practices on restaurant performance. Additionally, the study adds to the existing literature by examining the moderating effect of innovative restaurant practices on the relationship between restaurant location and performance, an aspect not previously explored in prior research.

Abstract

Purpose

This study explores evolving tourist preferences post-COVID-19, focusing on the growing demand for sustainable tourism. Using the X.0 wave/tomorrow age theory when X.0 = 5.0, it identifies transformative trends influencing the tourism industry's adaptation to new sustainability expectations.

Design/methodology/approach

A mixed-methods approach combines extensive surveys and interviews with diverse tourist profiles to examine behaviors and preferences. The seven pillars of sustainability (7PS) model frames the analysis.

Findings

Tourism is shifting toward sustainable practices, emphasizing cultural differences, environmental stewardship, social engagement, economic resilience, technological infrastructure, educational methods and political supports. The integration of X.0 wave theory with SME 5.0 concepts highlights the importance of responsible tourism aligned with evolving tourist expectations.

Originality/value

This study pioneers the application of the X.0 wave/tomorrow age theory to tourism, offering a novel framework for sustainable practices. It provides insights for making tourism resilient, ecologically sound and socially responsible, meeting post-pandemic visitor demands.

Abstract

Purpose

We investigated consumers’ environmental, social and local beliefs and their impact on attitudes, subjective norms and willingness to pay for sustainable coffee in the understudied context of Thailand.

Design/methodology/approach

The study is based on a survey of 253 Thai consumers, analysed through an extended model of the theory of planned behaviour (TPB).

Findings

The study validates the TPB model in the Thai demographic, finding a significant positive impact of environmental and local beliefs and subjective norms on willingness to pay for sustainable coffee. More importantly, it proposes an extended model of TPB, stressing the central role of “local beliefs” in sustainable consumption in a Global South context.

Originality/value

This study demonstrates the importance of “localness” in the practice of sustainable consumption in Thailand, namely the beliefs in the support for the local economy and prosperity for the local community. This expands our understanding of the heterogeneous meanings associated with the practice of sustainable consumption in a South-East Asian context.

Abstract

Purpose

This study seeks to investigate how psychological capital (PsyCap), proactive personality and perceived organizational support (POS) influence organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) through the lens of meaning of work (MoW) within correctional institutions in the North Sumatra, Indonesia.

Design/methodology/approach

This study employed a quantitative approach involving 276 officers. Path analysis was conducted utilizing the partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique.

Findings

The ten-hypotheses testing showed that one hypothesis is not supported, specifically the effect of proactive personality on OCB. However, the indirect effects of PsyCap, POS and proactive personality on OCB through MoW were successfully proven.

Originality/value

The results of this study both reinforce and provide insights into how the MoW can contribute to OCB, particularly within the context of densely populated correctional facilities. It aims to fill a significant gap in the current body of knowledge and enhance our understanding of the key factors that influence the behavior of correctional officers in a challenging and complex environment.

Abstract

Purpose

The main objective of this article is to visualize the structure and trends of pro-environmental behavior (PEB) between 1999 and 2023 through mapping and in-depth analysis. The aim is to analyze PEB, which has received considerable academic attention in recent years due to its key role in the conservation of the environment and the protection of local communities in tourist destinations. This paper provides an important summary of the recent research that has explored the role that tourists have in protecting the environment through PEB.

Design/methodology/approach

This study presents a visual analysis of 2005 scholarly articles between the years 1999 and 2023 related to PEB. Using the knowledge mapping based on VOSviewer it presents the current status of research, which includes the analysis of citation analysis, co-citation analysis, co-citation network and longitudinal analysis.

Findings

PEB is an emerging topic due to its relevance to protecting the environment in the context of travel. The citation and co-citation analysis show the relevance of the behavior of tourists with regard to protecting the environment. The co-word analysis highlights the current significance of research concerning green hotels and the destination image of environmentally responsible destinations.

Originality/value

This study sheds light on the current research progress of PEB in the context of tourism through a comprehensive analysis (citation, co-citation and co-word). In addition, we provide theories and factors that have been previously used to study PEB in the context of tourism. The findings contribute to a broad and diverse understanding of the concept of PEB, which can provide important insights for policymakers in formulating management strategies and policies aimed at reducing environmental impacts in destinations.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to analyse the antecedents and consequences of consumer participation behaviour in the hotel industry. It investigates how citizenship behaviour influences the link between participation and switching intention. It also investigates hotel innovativeness, brand identification and consumer value co-creation using the frameworks of innovation diffusion theory, social identity theory and social exchange theory. By combining different academic perspectives, the study provides a thorough grasp of the elements that influence consumer behaviour and loyalty to hospitality brands.

Design/methodology/approach

This study used a descriptive-analytical approach to survey 526 guests who stayed at five-star hotels affiliated with chains in Egypt. The hotels were chosen using stratified random sampling, which ensured representation across multiple segments. For practical reasons, convenience sampling techniques were used to pick research participants. To test the study hypotheses, structural equation modelling was used, which provided a strong statistical analysis to assess the correlations between variables and validate the suggested theoretical framework.

Findings

The research indicates that hotel innovativeness has a substantial impact on consumers’ brand identification and involvement behaviour, but not their propensity to move brands. The relationship between participation behaviours and intention to switch is mediated by consumer citizenship behaviour.

Research limitations/implications

The cross-sectional study methodology may not address causal linkages or developmental difficulties because it only collected data at one point in time. A longer study period is required, and the sample group’s breadth is restricted to five-star hotel guests from Egypt’s chain-affiliated hotels.

Originality/value

This study offers a thorough methodology for assessing how hotel innovation influences consumer brand identification. It also looks at how consumer brand identification affects involvement and switching intentions. The study also investigates the moderating influence of consumer citizenship behaviour in the link between involvement and switching intentions.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of consumption values on customer satisfaction and intention to consume millet-based foods. This study examines both tangible and intangible values of the millet-based food to the customer.

Design/methodology/approach

Based on consumption value theory (CVT), the present study evaluates the impact of consumption value factors such as emotional, epistemic, health, price, prestige and taste/quality values on satisfaction and intention to use millet-based foods and develops a unique research model. Later, leveraging a dataset comprising more than 410 responses from Pune city in India, a rigorous empirical examination of the proposed model was conducted employing SmartPLS 4.0 software.

Findings

The study's finding unveils both the significant and insignificant impacts of various consumption values, both from the tangible and intangible consumption value perspectives on satisfaction and intention to consume millet-based foods. The study also provides a validated food consumption model which can be used for other similar food consumption behaviour of the customers.

Research limitations/implications

This study provides insights as to how different consumption values impact the satisfaction of the customers for the millet-based food. This study illuminates additional aspects of the tangible and intangible factors impacting the satisfaction level of customers to consume millet-based products. Also, this is a cross-sectional study, and the respondents are only based in Pune, India. Thus, the study results cannot be generalised.

Originality/value

This study employs CVT to explore the unexplored impact of consumption values on satisfaction and intention to use millet-based foods, which is unexplored in the past literature. Moreover, this study develops a theoretical model with high explanatory power, and the research model adds value to the existing body of literature from areas such as food preference, consumer behaviour and value consumption insights.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the influence of network power on exploratory and exploitative innovation and examines the moderating effects of power distance and procedural justice on these untested relationships.

Design/methodology/approach

This study uses survey data collected from firms in China and explores the influential mechanisms of network power, power distance and procedural justice in firm innovation.

Findings

This study empirically shows that network power has an inverted U-shaped effect on exploratory and exploitative innovation. Power distance weakens the effect of network power on exploratory and exploitative innovation, and procedural justice enhances the effect of network power on exploratory and exploitative innovation.

Research limitations/implications

This study extends resource dependence theory and contributes to the literature on innovation management. Future studies should use different collection channels or research methods to provide more evidence for model promotion. In addition, the dynamic power game among network members and the roles of other mediators or moderators warrant further consideration.

Practical implications

Managers should exercise power strategies properly and ensure that their innovation income exceeds expenditures. Managers need to pay serious attention to power distance and procedural justice in the network and formulate suitable cooperation strategies based on actual conditions.

Originality/value

This study applies the resource dependence theory to investigate the influence of network power on exploratory and exploitative innovation. In addition, the moderating roles of power distance and procedural justice in the above relationships, which have rarely been discussed in previous studies, were tested.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the impact of emotional perceived value on hotel guests’ satisfaction, affective commitment and loyalty.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected from 348 respondents living in the United Arab Emirates, and hypotheses were tested using AMOS 28 and structural equation modeling.

Findings

This study’s unique contribution lies in its revelation that emotional perceived value directly impacts guests’ satisfaction, affective commitment and loyalty. Furthermore, it uncovers that emotional-perceived value indirectly influences loyalty through satisfaction and affective commitment.

Practical implications

This research underscores the importance of hotel managers prioritizing guests’ emotional perceived value in their offerings. Managers can significantly enhance guests’ satisfaction, affective commitment and loyalty by highlighting self-gratification, aesthetics, prestige, transaction and hedonics.

Originality/value

This study brings a fresh perspective to understanding customer perceived value (CPV). It argues that the mere emphasis on the functional aspect of CPV would likely fall short of fully comprehending specific outcomes of their experience (e.g. satisfaction-dissatisfaction, loyalty, etc.). Assessing the emotional aspect of CPV, known as emotional customer perceived value (ECPV), adds further explanations and sheds light on the understanding of the CPV concept and its impacts on consumers’ experience. Furthermore, this study emphasizes that emotional perceived value is better comprehended as a multidimensional rather than a unidimensional construct. It adds that the concept of customer value as a multidimensional concept is context-specific (i.e. dimensions vary from one service sector to another), providing a unique and valuable perspective for the luxury hotel industry.

Abstract

Purpose

Our study, based on signaling and social identity theories, explores how companies develop employer brand strategies through university partnerships and employee-centered practices. We also identify key factors that encourage employees to share positive word-of-mouth, enhancing the company’s appeal to potential and current talents.

Design/methodology/approach

Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling, we analyzed a sample of 687 employees from various industries in Greece.

Findings

In our research, we highlight the role of employees' affective commitment in generating positive word-of-mouth recommendations for their company, as a desirable employment destination through interactions within their alma mater universities. This commitment, tied to their understanding of the company’s employer brand and their perceptions of its pre-recruitment practices, fosters a positive employer image among potential candidates. Our study confirms that leveraging employees as brand ambassadors enhances a company’s appeal to younger generations.

Practical implications

Companies should prioritize cultivating employees' affective commitment and facilitate interactions between employees and young candidates at their alma mater universities. It is crucial to ensure that employees understand the company’s employer brand both during their experience as candidates and as employees. By understanding the factors influencing employees' willingness to act as brand ambassadors, organizations can strengthen their employer image and attract younger candidates.

Originality/value

Our findings enhance the understanding of employee word-of-mouth dynamics, offering insights to improve pre-recruitment HR practices aimed at attracting students and recent graduates. By emphasizing employees' perceptions and actions regarding their social interactions at alma mater universities and their employer brand awareness, we can add value to employee-centric pre-recruitment strategies. Designed and implemented by employers, these strategies aim to attract emerging talent through universities.
