Abstract

Purpose

This article explores differentiation in the responses of precarious workers to the instability and uncertainty imposed on their work by employing organizations. Our focus is on the ways in which different workers respond to precarious working conditions, with a particular interest on marginalised groups who have been especially overlooked by studies of workforce precarity.

Design/methodology/approach

Employs an approach akin to grounded theory in an exploratory research design and utilizes in-depth, semi-structured interviews of 56 precarious workers.

Findings

Finds that different precarious workers, with divergent characteristics and resources, facing differing working conditions, and diverse structural constraints vary in the ways in which their strategies of surviving precarious work are manifested. Uncovers three differing forms of precarious workers who each employ a different range of tactics and strategies in work.

Originality/value

Generates insights into differentiation of precarious workers in their responses to the ambiguous, challenging and, in many ways, subjugating conditions of their working conditions.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to present systematic analysis of research concerning the intersection of human resource management (HRM) and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies within a digitalized economy further analyzing the trends in research with specific emphasis on utilization of diverse AI technologies within HRM.

Design/methodology/approach

This research is based on bibliometric analyses and content analyses. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses review methodology is implemented, using the Scopus database as the primary source which gathered 1,414 articles between 1978 and 2024. This study investigates publishing trends, the most prolific countries, universities, journals, publications and authors in the field. Further, the research trends based on the use of AI in HRM were accomplished through scientific mapping using VOSviewer.

Findings

The outcomes demonstrate a rising inclination toward using various AI techniques in HRM which shows increasing influence and growing appeal of the subject. The research uncovers the deployment of diverse technologies, including emerging ones, within the HRM field. It accomplishes this by scrutinizing the connections among various keywords and unearths both contradictions and focal areas of interest within the domain.

Originality/value

The study contributes to the existing body of literature by ascertaining suggestions for further research in the field of HRM integrated with various AI technologies. The integration of these technologies in HR holds a promising and optimistic outlook for the managers, thereby enhancing employee productivity.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to the intricate relationship between digital influencers (DIs) and their followers, aiming to develop a comprehensive framework that explains how influence works in the digital world. It focuses on understanding the cultural aspects that shape these relationships in today’s global and digital marketplace.

Design/methodology/approach

This study employs a holistic methodology, intertwining historical, cultural and theoretical insights to decode the DI phenomenon. Applying a Grounded Theory approach, this paper coded articles into categories, developed abstract concepts and refined them through cycles of literature collection and analysis that allowed identifing gaps in the Influencer Marketing field. This comprehensive review and inductive analysis of globalization, mediated communication and digital interactions aim to unravel the intricacies of digital and virtual influence. This paper’s theoretical development advances propositions that dissect the facets influencing digital adoption, usage, interest and value perception, leading to a detailed model of digital influence grounded in both theory and real-world examples.

Findings

This research uncovers the significant impact DIs have, driven by global connections and the way we communicate in the digital age. Historical context situates DIs within the broader narrative of mediated persuasive communication. A preliminary typology of DIs and influence contexts forms the foundation for further exploration.

Research limitations/implications

This study enhances the discussion around DIs by considering the influence of technology and culture together. It draws from the thoughts of leading thinkers on how technology connects us, providing a strong foundation for future studies.

Practical implications

As digital influence and the surrounding technology continue to change, it’s important to think critically about these trends. This research offers valuable insights for businesses looking to navigate the digital landscape effectively, helping them make better strategic decisions about their online presence.

Originality/value

This study breaks new ground by offering a detailed categorization of DIs and proposing a fresh way to understand their role. It links important ideas from the past about persuasion through media to the current state of digital influence, offering insights into how digital trends might affect communication strategies.
