Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this research study is to recognize the significance of entrepreneurial psychology. This was achieved by assessing the relationship between the dark personality traits and entrepreneurial intention (EI). This study examined the interrelationship between dual narcissism traits and EI. The authors specifically focused on Narcissistic Admiration (NA) and Narcissistic Rivalry (NR), with particular emphasis on the mediating role of Psychological Empowerment (PE).

Design/methodology/approach

This study used a descriptive quantitative research approach to investigate the research model and to test the hypothesis. Data collection involved administering structured questionnaires with nonprobability sampling to obtain data from 340 incubated entrepreneurs. Researchers used partial least squares structured equation modeling for data analysis.

Findings

The study findings indicated that NA had a significant impact on both PE and EI, whereas NR substantially impacted PE but not on EI. Furthermore, the results revealed that PE served as a partial mediator between NA and EI, whereas PE acted as a full mediator between NR and EI.

Research limitations/implications

This study contributed to the literature on EI. This study examined the theoretical interrelationship between dual narcissism, specifically NA and NR, with EI while emphasizing the mediating role of PE.

Practical implications

As an emerging nation, India requires more entrepreneurs and more examples of successful entrepreneurship. This study insights would help entrepreneurs to manage their entrepreneurial ventures better. This would be realized by entrepreneurs with better comprehension of NA, NR and PE, which would finally enable the achievement of higher levels of EI.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study was one of the first empirical investigations that distinguished between the two aspects of narcissistic personality: admiration and rivalry. This demonstrated the differential impact on EI. This study made a valuable addition to the theoretical domain of entrepreneurial psychology. This was achieved by highlighting the important role of PE in the association between dual narcissism and the intent of potential entrepreneurs.

Abstract

Purpose

This study’s aim is to introduce a high-performance sorbent for the removal of both anionic (Congo red; CR) and cationic (methylene blue; MB) dyes from aqueous solutions.

Design/methodology/approach

Sodium silicate is adopted as a substrate for GO and AgNPs with positive charge are used as modifiers. The synthesized nanocomposite is characterized by FTIR, FESEM, EDS, BET and XRD techniques. Then, some of the most effective parameters on the removal of CR and MB dyes such as solution pH, sorbent dose, adsorption equilibrium time, primary dye concentration and salt effect are optimized using the spectrophotometry technique.

Findings

The authors successfully achieved notable maximum adsorption capacities (Qmax) of CR and MB, which were 41.15 and 37.04 mg g−1, respectively. The required equilibrium times for maximum efficiency of the developed sorbent were 10 and 15 min for CR and MB dyes, respectively. Adsorption equilibrium data present a good correlation with Langmuir isotherm, with a correlation coefficient of R2 = 0.9924 for CR and R2 = 0.9904 for MB, and kinetic studies prove that the dye adsorption process follows pseudo second-order models (CR R2 = 0.9986 and MB R2 = 0.9967).

Practical implications

The results showed that the proposed mechanism for the function of the developed sorbent in dye adsorption was based on physical and multilayer adsorption for both dyes onto the active sites of non-homogeneous sorbent.

Originality/value

The as-prepared nano-adsorbent has a high ability to remove both cationic and anionic dyes; moreover, to the high efficiency of the adsorbent, it has been tried to make its synthesis steps as simple as possible using inexpensive and available materials.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to control the clay’s dispersion within the PA6 matrix. Cloisite Na+, a naturally occurring sodium montmorillonite (NaMMT), and Cloisite 30B and 93A, two organophilic MMT (OMMT), were used for this purpose.

Design/methodology/approach

By using a twin-screw extruder for melt mixing, Polyamide 6 (PA6)/NaMMT nanocomposites with 1, 3, 5 and 10 Wt.% Cloisite Na+ and PA with 5 and 10 Wt.% Cloisite 30B and 93A were created. PA6/OMMT nanocomposite to investigate how organoclay disperses within the PA6.

Findings

The link among PA6 and the silicate layer was evaluated via (FTIR), confirming presence of a compact contact between the nanosilicate layer and PA6 segments. Thermal behavior of obtained nanocomposites was evaluated through a thermogravimetric analyzer. The data confirmed that the thermal behavior of PA6 was moderately improved once addition 5 Wt.% filler, in the order: Cloisite Na+>Cloisit 93A>Cloisit 30B.Electrical properties have been studied through measuring dielectric constant, dielectric loss and conductivity measurment that procced at frequencies from 10–1 to 107 Hz and temperatures from 40°C to 120°C, dielectric constant (έ) and dielectric loss (έ) of the nanocomposite were sharply increased with increasing the two parameters temperature and frequency.

Originality/value

The hybrid nanomaterials of PA6/ Cloisite Na+, Cloisite 93A or Cloisite 30B can be credited as electronic nanodevices and microwave semiconductors materials with a small amount of nanoclay filler as illustrated in the conclusion.

Abstract

Public scepticism is becoming more prevalent surrounding organizations' corporate social responsibility (CSR) implementation and communication. Management research has tended to over-fixate on the strategic paybacks of CSR, and less attention has been devoted to examining why CSR is under siege due to the pervasive issue of scepticism coming from a plethora of stakeholders. This study provides a scoping review to appraise the status quo of CSR vis-à-vis scepticism scholarship and examine how the two concepts have been contextualized in relation to one another in the extant literature in question. The findings illustrate that the process nature of CSR scepticism is complex, given that CSR can yield both a buffering and boomerang effect on CSR practitioners. The qualitative content analysis performed on 58 studies, published from 2007 to 2022, elaborates on CSR scepticism as a multidimensional construct with three distinctive typologies of research approaches identified, explicating how the CSR and scepticism topicalities have been cross-examined in relation to one another: “Typology 1: Dispositional Scepticism and the Buffering Effect of CSR on Scepticism”; “Typology 2: Situational Scepticism and the Boomerang Effect of CSR on Scepticism”; “Typology 3: Centrality of CSR Scepticism and CSR Scepticism Mitigation.” This study offers a conceptual insight into the prevalent issue of scepticism in the CSR context, while also informing marketing, communication, and public relations professionals about the necessity of mitigating CSR scepticism, which poses a barrier to effective CSR implementation and communication processes.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to provide a timely review of hospitality and tourism live streaming (HTLS) research, aiming to understand the intellectual foundation in the past and identify opportunities for future research.

Design/methodology/approach

This study collected 56 papers from journals in the Social Science Citation Index database or the Australian Business Deans Council journal quality list and adopted a hybrid systematic literature review combining bibliometric analysis and the theory-context-characteristics-method framework-based approach. Additionally, a cross-tabulation analysis was conducted to compare the research on two specific forms of HTLS – tourism e-commerce live streaming (TEcLS) and travel live streaming.

Findings

The study found that the current research lacks in-depth theoretical insights, focuses on China as the national context and viewers as the research subject, mainly uses online surveys and lacks first-order knowledge. Moreover, it identified five research themes, including the impact of HTLS on viewer behavior, purchase behavior in HTLS and introduction of HTLS, within which eight categories of research constructs, such as viewer-related, streamer-related and relationship-related, are applied.

Research limitations/implications

In terms of research, the study reveals various gaps in the existing literature and provides potential research directions to advance the field. As for practice, it offers valuable strategies for practitioners to optimize their marketing efforts using HTLS.

Originality/value

This study provides an up-to-date review of the HTLS field through a systematic and reproducible method. It offers critical discussions and suggestions for academic research and industry practices.

Abstract

Purpose

Salt rock from salt lakes can serve as a cost-effective material for subgrade filling, as demonstrated in projects like the Qarhan Salt Lake section of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway and the Qarhan Salt Lake section of the G215 Highway. This state-of-the-art paper aims to summarize the engineering properties of salt rock filling and present the advances of its utilization.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper collects and analyzes laboratory and field data of salt rock filling from previous studies to present a comprehensive analysis of the engineering properties and utilization of salt rock fillings.

Findings

Salt rock primarily contains minerals such as halite and glauberite, which contribute to its unique phase-changing behavior under varying environmental conditions, impacting its mechanical properties. Salt rock filling shrinks when in contact with vapor or unsaturated brine and expands under cooling or evaporation. Its use is particularly recommended for arid regions, with specific restrictions depending on the structure type. This paper discusses suggested countermeasures to mitigate these issues, as well as key quality acceptance indices for salt rock filling compaction. Moisture content after air-drying is recommended as a crucial parameter for construction quality control.

Originality/value

This review aims to support future research and engineering practices in salt rock subgrade applications.

This study investigates whether horizon problems affect the allocation of capital budgets and their implementation in a government setting.

Abstract

Purpose

This study investigates whether horizon problems affect the allocation of capital budgets and their implementation in a government setting.

Design/methodology/approach

We use data from 2005 to 2020 for local governments in Indonesia, which apply a limit of two five-year terms for mayors. We use regression analyses for panel data with total observations of 4,541 local government years from 448 unique local governments. We also use graphical analyses and t-tests to provide robustness to our results.

Findings

Mayors allocated lower capital expenditures in the second term than in the first. Capital budget allocation is lower for local governments whose mayors are older than 60. Our additional analysis shows that incumbents seeking re-election allocate more capital expenditure than those not seeking re-election.

Research limitations/implications

This study contributes to the literature on the behavioral effect of term limits on local government's allocation and implementation of capital budgets. Limiting elected government officials to a certain number of terms will prevent the monopoly of power. However, it may negatively affect budget allocation on capital programs in their last term. Our findings should interest public policymakers in discerning the costs and benefits of term limits for elected offices.

Originality/value

Most studies on horizon problems have focused on the corporate setting. This study provides evidence of the effects of horizon problems in the government setting, especially in Asia.

Abstract

Purpose

The restoration and strengthening of QT600 is an industry bottleneck challenge. The Co-12 cladding layer has great wear and corrosion resistance. The purpose of this paper is to quantitatively reveal the transient evolution law of the corrosion process of Co-12 cladding layer on QT600 surface.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, a three-dimensional numerical model of the corrosion process of Co-12 cladding layer by QT600 laser cladding is established. The interaction between pitting pits and corrosion medium is considered to reveal the transient evolution of ion concentration, electrode potential, pH and corrosion rate at different locations.

Findings

The calculation shows that the ion concentration in pitting pit changes Cl>Co2+>Na+, pH value decreases from top to bottom and corrosion rate at bottom is greater than that at top. The electrochemical corrosion test of Co-12 cladding layer was carried out. It is shown that the current density of QT600 increases by an order of magnitude compared to the Co-12 cladding layer, and the corrosion rate is 4.862 times higher than that of the cladding layer.

Originality/value

The results show that Co-12 cladding layer has great corrosion resistance, which provides an effective way for QT600 protection.

Abstract

Purpose

Recognizing the transformative impact of financial technology (Fintech) and mobile wallets (m-wallets) on modern financial practices, this study aims to explore the complex dynamics of m-wallet adoption in Bangladesh, focusing on user perceptions and financial autonomy. By integrating self-determination theory (SDT) and diffusion of innovation (DOI) theory, the authors propose a model incorporating constructs such as perceived security (PS), perceived trust (PT), compatibility, ease of use (EOU), perceived financial autonomy (PFA), perceived financial competence (PFC), relative advantage (RA) and intention-to-use (IU).

Design/methodology/approach

This study used a survey-based methodology to gather data from m-wallets users in Bangladesh. In this survey, 445 individuals participated; 393 of those were deemed legitimate and were chosen for study. Partial least squares-structural equation modeling was used in the investigation. This method made sure that the relationships between the proposed model’s constructs were thoroughly examined.

Findings

The research findings confirm that PFC significantly impacts the IU m-wallets and PFA. PFA also positively influences the IU. PS impacts the IU and PT, which further affects the IU. EOU influences RA and the IU. The study highlights the importance of PFC, PS, PT and EOU in driving the adoption of m-wallets.

Originality/value

This study integrates SDT and DOI theory to explore m-wallet adoption. It highlights financial competence and autonomy as key factors, offering insights and practical strategies for Fintech stakeholders in emerging markets to enhance adoption through financial literacy, security measures and user-friendly designs.
