Abstract
Purpose
This research aims to investigate the disciplinary functions of depositors and subordinated debt holders within Indonesia's dual banking system, examining the impact of regulatory changes on market discipline.
Design/methodology/approach
The study employs a comprehensive analysis of the dual banking system in Indonesia over 15 years. Utilizing a non-public dataset from the Financial Services Authority and the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation, the study employs propensity score matching and difference-in-differences analysis.
Findings
The findings reveal distinct patterns in the exercise of market discipline by depositors over different regulatory regimes. During the blanket guarantee regime (2002–2005), depositors lacked the incentive to monitor banks but resumed their disciplinary role under the limited guarantee regime (2005–2017). Islamic banks faced simultaneous market and regulatory discipline, with market discipline prevailing.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the literature by providing novel insights into the interplay between regulatory changes, market discipline and depositor behavior within Indonesia's dual banking system. The utilization of a comprehensive non-public dataset from regulatory authorities adds to the originality of the research.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to analyze whether and how intergovernmental fiscal transfers (IFTs) affect technological innovation.
Design/methodology/approach
China’s provincial panel data from 2007 to 2019 are used in an empirical study to examine the effect of IFTs on technological innovation and the role of fiscal spending policy in the relationship between the two by using the spatial Durbin model.
Findings
Results show an evident spatial correlation for the effect of IFTs on technological innovation, indicating that IFTs have a significant negative influence on technological innovation in local and surrounding regions. IFTs also inhibit technological innovation by negatively affecting science and technology spending and education spending.
Research limitations/implications
These findings can aid policymakers in advancing technological innovation by improving the system of fiscal transfers and optimizing the structure of fiscal spending.
Originality/value
Although the determinants of technological innovation have been analyzed, no studies have investigated the effect of IFTs on technological innovation. Thus, this paper aims to address this gap.

Purpose
Highlights in academic papers serve as condensed summaries of the author’s key work, allowing readers to quickly grasp the paper’s focus. However, many journals do not currently offer highlights for their articles. To address this gap, some scholars have explored using supervised learning methods to extract highlights from academic papers. A significant challenge in this approach is the need for substantial amounts of training data.
Design/methodology/approach
This study examines the effectiveness of prompt-based learning for generating highlights. We develop task-specific prompt templates, populate them with paper abstracts and use them as input for language models. We employ both locally inferable pre-trained models, such as GPT-2 and T5, and the ChatGPT model accessed via API.
Findings
By evaluating the model’s performance across three datasets, we find that the ChatGPT model performed comparably to traditional supervised learning methods, even in the absence of training samples. Introducing a small number of training samples further enhanced the model’s performance. We also investigate the impact of prompt template content on model performance, revealing that ChatGPT’s effectiveness on specific tasks is highly contingent on the information embedded in the prompts.
Originality/value
This study advances the field of automatic highlights generation by pioneering the application of prompt learning. We employ several mainstream pre-trained language models, including the widely used ChatGPT, to facilitate text generation. A key advantage of our method is its ability to generate highlights without the need for training on domain-specific corpora, thereby broadening its applicability.

Purpose
To investigate the influence of vehicle operation speed, curve geometry parameters and rail profile parameters on wheel–rail creepage in high-speed railway curves and propose a multi-parameter coordinated optimization strategy to reduce wheel–rail contact fatigue damage.
Design/methodology/approach
Taking a small-radius curve of a high-speed railway as the research object, field measurements were conducted to obtain track parameters and wheel–rail profiles. A coupled vehicle-track dynamics model was established. Multiple numerical experiments were designed using the Latin Hypercube Sampling method to extract wheel-rail creepage indicators and construct a parameter-creepage response surface model.
Findings
Key service parameters affecting wheel–rail creepage were identified, including the matching relationship between curve geometry and vehicle speed and rail profile parameters. The influence patterns of various parameters on wheel–rail creepage were revealed through response surface analysis, leading to the establishment of parameter optimization criteria.
Originality/value
This study presents the systematic investigation of wheel–rail creepage characteristics under multi-parameter coupling in high-speed railway curves. A response surface-based parameter-creepage relationship model was established, and a multi-parameter coordinated optimization strategy was proposed. The research findings provide theoretical guidance for controlling wheel–rail contact fatigue damage and optimizing wheel–rail profiles in high-speed railway curves.

Through meticulous analysis and synthesis of existing literature, regulatory reports and industry insights, this paper constructs a comprehensive narrative that traces the evolution of UPI from its inception to its current status as a cornerstone of the Indian digital payments ecosystem. The theoretical framework employed in this study draws upon concepts from innovation diffusion theory, network effects and technological adoption models to elucidate the factors driving the adoption and proliferation of UPI. By examining key milestones, regulatory interventions, technological advancements and market dynamics, this paper unveils the intricate interplay of various stakeholders, including banks, fintech firms, government bodies and consumers, in shaping the trajectory of UPI growth. Furthermore, this research delves into the utility of UPI as a payment infrastructure by exploring its implications for financial inclusion, efficiency, security and economic development. Abstract
Purpose
In the framework of GN-II theory, this paper aims to address the plane wave propagation in a two-dimensional homogeneous, transversely isotropic magneto-thermoelastic medium with rotation and voids.
Design/methodology/approach
To investigate the problem, the fundamental governing equations are modified in the purview of Green-Naghdi theory without energy dissipation. These equations are converted to non-dimensional form using dimensionless quantities and are further solved to obtain four quasi plane waves travelling with different phase speeds in the considered medium. Amplitude ratios and energy ratios have been provided in explicit form after implementing the proper boundary conditions.
Findings
Numerical calculations are carried out using MATLAB software. For graphical representation of the expressions for phase velocities, reflection coefficients and energy ratios, a particular material is chosen to demonstrate the effects of magnetic field, rotation and void parameter.
Originality/value
The reflection coefficients are strongly affected by rotation, void parameter and magnetic field, as evidenced by conceptual and numerical findings. For validation of this study, the outcomes have also been compared to earlier published studies. In addition, it has also been established that the energy conservation law is also justified during the reflection phenomena. In the current research, the authors have included rotation and magnetic field in a transversely isotropic thermoelastic medium having voids, which has not yet been addressed in the published research. The results of current problem are very useful in a number of fields, such as soil dynamics, geophysical processes, chemical engineering and petroleum sector.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the factors influencing the switching intentions towards e-motorcycles among young Muslim female consumers. The research integrates the theory of planned behaviour (TPB), prospect theory and environmental concern theory, with an additional focus on religious compatibility to enhance the accuracy of predictions.
Design/methodology/approach
Data was collected through a survey of 486 young Indonesian Muslim females who currently ride conventional motorcycles. The data was then analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to test the proposed relationships.
Findings
The findings reveal that practicality, including factors like convenience and safety, is the main driver of the intention to switch to e-motorcycles. This is followed by favourable attitudes towards e-motorcycles and religious compatibility. These favourable attitudes are largely influenced by environmental concerns, practicality, favourable cost-benefit analysis and religious compatibility. Notably, the study did not find significant differences in these relationships between respondents with or without prior e-motorcycle experience.
Practical implications
This study offers actionable recommendations for marketers and policymakers to effectively promote sustainable transportation among young Muslim female consumers. By addressing both gender-specific and broader consumer needs, strategies can be developed to enhance the adoption of e-motorcycles.
Originality/value
This research contributes to the theoretical understanding of switching behaviour by integrating religious compatibility with established theories. It provides a nuanced perspective on the factors driving e-motorcycle adoption, particularly among young Muslim female consumers, an underexplored demographic in the context of sustainable transportation.

Purpose
Organizational pursuit of sustainability in multi-tier supply chain systems operating in unpredictable environments is often associated with the emergence of paradoxical tensions. This study aims to summarize and synthesize existing literature on managing various paradoxical tensions in supply chains (i.e. sourcing, making, delivering and reverse logistics) as organizations pursue sustainability transformation. It also strives to motivate new academic research inquiry into developing responses to sustainability paradoxes.
Design/methodology/approach
The study draws on a systematic literature review of 73 papers from the Web of Science database selected at the intersection of paradox, sustainability and logistics/ supply chain management (SCM). Applying paradox theory as a guiding lens, we investigate organizational strategies, practices and capabilities described in the literature to navigate sustainability paradoxes in supply chains.
Findings
The results assert that the success of sustainability transformation will depend on an organizational ability to recognize, accept and navigate paradoxical tensions in one's supply chain. This requires developing the dynamic capabilities of paradoxical leadership, strategic agility, innovativeness, collaboration with contextualization and governance. Successful sustainability transformation is not reliant on finding an optimal, final design but rather the continuous balancing of tensions inherent within or across the organizations that make up one's supply chain.
Practical implications
The research offers an integrative conceptual framework to guide organizations in navigating sustainability paradoxes in supply chains, embracing strategic, practice and capability levels. It also outlines opportunities for future research inquiries connected to this framework that are needed to build additional insight for addressing paradoxical tensions related to the pursuit of sustainable supply chain management.
Originality/value
This study takes a dynamic capabilities approach to navigating paradoxical tensions in pursuit of sustainable supply chain management.

Purpose
This study aims to investigate the mechanism of the influence of paradoxical thinking (PT), which characterizes the ability of college students to balance and integrate the conflict between hedonic and normative goals, on their campus low-carbon behaviors.
Design/methodology/approach
The conceptual model of “PT − Paradoxical salience (climate change concern, CCC) − Paradoxical acceptance (support for low-carbon behavioral norms, SN) − paradoxical resolution (campus low-carbon intentions and behaviors, CLCIs and CLCBs)” was developed. Then, it was tested by PLS-SEM using survey data obtained from 501 Chinese college students, and the relative importance of each factor of CLCBs was determined by the importance-performance map analysis method. Finally, a mechanistic difference analysis was conducted.
Findings
PT, CCC and SN have the potential to influence the CLCBs of college students, with each of the three factors showing approximately 40% room for improvement in their impact. There exists an influential pathway of “PT → CCC → SN → CLCIs → CLCBs.” Notably, PT exhibits a stronger direct influence on college students’ private-sphere CLCBs compared to the public-sphere CLCBs.
Practical implications
Colleges should integrate the development of PT into the foundational framework of the entire education for sustainable development curriculum, while emphasizing the provision of opportunities for training in PT through pedagogical methods, and PT training can be integrated across various social levels.
Originality/value
This study offers a paradox theoretical framework for comprehending and elucidating the decision-making process underlying personal low-carbon behaviors, and advances the quantitative research of microindividual paradox processing by effectively conceptualizing and measuring paradoxical salience and acceptance.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper explores the ways women entrepreneurs in male-dominated industries do identity work in order to gain legitimacy. In particular, we consider such identity work as a process being prompted by their direct environment, while demonstrating the gendered structural power relations in these women’s entrepreneurial contexts. We use a postfeminist lens to show how, in their quest for more legitimacy, they seem to be interpellated by postfeminist discourse.
Design/methodology/approach
We have used a narrative approach to show how women entrepreneurs in masculinised contexts do identity work to acquire legitimacy, and moreover use a postfeminist perspective to reflect on this identity work as to demonstrate how these Dutch businesswomen consider their agency in specific feminist terms within these men-dominated industry environments.
Findings
We present empirical data of ten women entrepreneurs in the Netherlands and how they discursively and subjectively make sense of their surrounding gendered contexts, in order to illustrate how local gender regimes and individual actions may conspire to constrain as well as stimulate these women’s entrepreneurship. By reflecting on three different ways of identity work through a postfeminist lens, we show how these women are interpellated by postfeminist discourses when trying to gain legitimacy.
Research limitations/implications
The rather small sample does not allow us to generalise our findings to the whole population of women entrepreneurs in men-dominated contexts, yet this was not our goal anyway.
Practical implications
Such a reflection might help policy makers and such women themselves realise how, after all, gender inequality is still persistant in the entrepreneurship field and drawing on postfeminism does not necessarily help to support these women entrepreneurs' work–life balance.
Social implications
Our findings underline the importance of a more gender inclusive entrepreneurship ecosystem, in which women entrepreneurs in both masculinised ánd feminised sectors are seen and treated as legitimate entrepreneurs.
Originality/value
Postfeminism, to our knowledge, has hardly been applied to women entrepreneurs' experiences in men-dominated environments, and is in itself still a rather new field in entrepreneurship studies.
