To study the mediating effect of resilience and the moderating effect of gender on the association between satisfaction with life and self-efficacy.
Abstract
Purpose
To study the mediating effect of resilience and the moderating effect of gender on the association between satisfaction with life and self-efficacy.
Design/methodology/approach
Participants were 211 HR professionals; mediation and moderation hypotheses were tested using PROCESS macro.
Findings
Results revealed a significant association between satisfaction with life, self-efficacy and dimensions of resilience. The mediating effect was significant for three dimensions of resilience: positive acceptance, personal competence and trust in one’s instincts. Gender moderated the relationship between satisfaction with life and self-efficacy through positive acceptance and positive competence but not trust in one’s instincts.
Originality/value
Most literature examines satisfaction with life as an outcome measure despite existing calls and alternate theoretical frameworks. This study considers satisfaction with life as a predictor of self-efficacy and resilience. Linkages with theoretical frameworks and implications are discussed.

Abstract
Purpose
Risk information provides information to enable stakeholders to make informed decisions about a company. Corporate communications should be readable and unbiased so as not to hamper disclosure usefulness. This study assesses whether risk disclosures in the integrated reports are readable and unbiased.
Design/methodology/approach
The readability and narrative tone of South African listed companies' risk and risk management disclosures as disclosed in their integrated reports are analysed using automated software for the Top 40 JSE listed companies from 2015 to 2019.
Findings
The results show that risk and risk management disclosures are unreadable and lack any improvement in readability during the period. Additionally, these disclosures are biased toward narrative tones signalling communality and certainty.
Originality/value
The study adds to the literature on the readability of corporate reports, by focussing on the readability and narrative tone of risk and risk management disclosures during a period of increased scrutiny over the content of such disclosures. Also, by analysing risk disclosure and risk management disclosure separately, and by performing trend analysis to determine whether requirement changes related to content (specifically King IV) affect readability and narrative tones.

Abstract
Purpose
In today’s knowledge societies, scientific research is tasked to contribute to solving crucial problems, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Epistemic inequality, both in terms of who is able to contribute, and whose voices are being heard, could hamper our ability to develop solutions that meet the needs of all.
Design/methodology/approach
We assembled a set of publications published from 2006 to 2019 related to three SDGs (Health/Well-Being, Climate Action, Zero Hunger) by mapping Fields of Study from Microsoft Academic Graph to SDGs. Across this set, we investigate patterns of knowledge production, investigating gender, levels of institutional resourcing and contributions by world region, as well as Open Access availability of research.
Findings
Research related to the three SDGs is primarily published by researchers from institutions situated in the global North. Well-resourced institutions contribute disproportionately to the study of the three SDGs. The share of authorships by women is rising, but still far away from equity. We find higher ranked institutions to produce more OA articles, with a declining relationship between institutional ranking and the share of OA. Finally, we find overall higher shares of OA publishing across low- and high-income countries, compared to lower and upper medium income countries.
Originality/value
Mapping research contributions to SDGs by leveraging the comprehensive data available from Microsoft Academic Graph adds an important perspective to the study of SDG-related research.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to optimize the design of falling film heat exchangers by providing a deeper understanding of wave characteristics and capillary flow in laminar inclined falling films at low Reynolds numbers. The focus is on the effects of different Kapitza numbers, influenced by fluid properties and inclination, on the interfacial wave behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
A numerical investigation was conducted using the volume of fluid method within OpenFOAM’s interFoam solver. This study examined the effects of Kapitza number, inclination angle and inlet disturbances on wave formation and flow dynamics, analyzing how these factors influence interfacial wave amplitude, wavelength and flow in the capillary region.
Findings
The results revealed that higher Kapitza numbers lead to the formation of stronger capillary waves. Flow separation was observed in the capillary wave region for materials with high Kapitza numbers. An improved Nosoko correlation model was developed, incorporating the inclination angle to more accurately predict the relationship between wave peaks and wavelengths in inclined cases.
Originality/value
This research investigates the impact of low Kapitza number on inclined falling film flow, and a correlation model was derived that provides a broader range for evaluating wave behavior in inclined conditions, offering extended references for the design of falling film heat exchangers.

Abstract
Purpose
Employing the extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) framework, this study examines the potential differences between two groups of hotel guests – business and leisure travelers – in terms of factors influencing their intention to purchase hotel products on Douyin (TikTok) in China.
Design/methodology/approach
Data gathered from 700 Chinese hotel guests was analyzed using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and multigroup analysis (MGA).
Findings
The MGA results reveal that three newly added variables – personalization, perceived interactivity and perceived creativity – significantly influence the purchase intention of leisure travelers but not business travelers. Regarding the conventional UTAUT2 variables, leisure travelers are more influenced by hedonic motivation and price value in their purchasing decisions. In contrast, performance expectancy and effort expectancy have a greater impact on the decision-making process of business travelers than their leisure counterparts.
Research limitations/implications
Theoretically, this paper is among the first to explore traveler types as moderators in the purchase of hotel products on Douyin. Practically, the findings offer valuable guidance for hotel marketers aiming to leverage Douyin to promote hotel products to these two different traveler segments.
Practical implications
Instead of using “one-size-fits-all” strategies, hotel managers should design marketing strategies that address the diverse needs of business and leisure travelers on Douyin. By implementing this strategy, they can effectively attract target customers and, in turn, increase hotel revenue.
Originality/value
This study expands the UTAUT2 framework and contributes to the scarce knowledge about the differences between business and leisure travelers regarding the relative importance of factors that influence their purchase intention for hotel products on Douyin among business and leisure travelers.
