Abstract

Purpose

Organizations encourage green creativity among their employees to reduce environmental pollution and attain sustainable development. Green, inclusive leadership can produce positive outcomes and influence employees' green innovation. However, green inclusive leadership and green creativity are empirically less examined in the sustainability literature. Therefore, this study theorized a conceptual model based on the organizational creativity theory to explore the influence of green inclusive leadership on employees’ green creativity. It also aimed to explore the intermediating effect of green passion and green absorptive capacity on the relationship between green inclusive leadership and green creativity.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were gathered through a self-administered questionnaire-based survey from 540 employees of a manufacturing enterprise in China. The hypotheses were analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique.

Findings

The findings reveal that green inclusive leadership positively and significantly influences employees' green creativity. Moreover, the results show that green passion and green absorptive capacity play positive mediating roles in the relationship between green inclusive leadership and green creativity.

Practical implications

This study offers practical implications for Chinese manufacturing enterprises, where green inclusive leadership is essential to enhance green passion, green absorptive capacity and green creativity among employees.

Originality/value

Drawing upon the organizational creativity theory, this research study is novel because it is one of the few empirical research studies to explore green inclusive leadership and green creativity in Chinese manufacturing enterprises. It further establishes the positive mediating role of green passion and green absorptive capacity in the relationship between green inclusive leadership and green creativity.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the research was to explore the critical success factors (CSFs) that enable knowledge-sharing behaviors (KSB) among students and to determine if there are differences in the CSFs that enable KSB among undergraduate, graduate or professional course students.

Design/methodology/approach

The study is based on primary data collection, surveying 281 students using a multiple-choice Likert-style scale.

Findings

Researchers found that factors such as knowledge culture (KC), perceived rewards (PR), quality of technology (QT), trust, networking ties (NT) and competitiveness were critical for KSB. In contrast, collective culture, subjective norms (SN) and the ability to share did not significantly impact KSB. The CSFs common among students at different educational levels were KC, PR, trust and competitiveness. KC was more important for undergraduates and professional course students but less significant for graduate students. Additionally, NT and the QT did not impact KSB among undergraduates.

Originality/value

While several studies have explored CSFs for knowledge-sharing behaviors among students at specific educational levels, there is a lack of comparative empirical research examining KSB and the CSFs affecting students at different educational stages. This study fills a gap in the literature by adopting a comparative approach and presenting common success factors for knowledge sharing among students at various educational levels.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate the sustainable entrepreneurial attitudes (SEA) and intentions of young women. The study aims to first explore the impact of the external environment on the SEA and then the intention of female tourism and hotel management students at Jordanian universities; and second, to examine the moderating role of prior entrepreneurial training (PET) in the relationship between the external perceived environment and SEA.

Design/methodology/approach

A quantitative approach, using a questionnaire with a total sample of 302 participants of female tourism and hotel management students at Jordanian universities, was used to collect data. SmartPLS was used to test the research model and hypotheses.

Findings

The findings revealed that the entrepreneurial attitude of young female students in tourism and hospitality toward sustainable entrepreneurship significantly influences their sustainable entrepreneurial intention (SEI). The perceived external environment, including access to finance, government policies and university educational support, has a nonsignificant effect on young women’s SEA; however, their SEA is significantly influenced by society’s perception. Their PET partially moderates the relationships between the perceived external environment and young women’s SEA (PET).

Originality/value

This study creates new insights and contributes toward understanding the SEA and SEI of young women in an emerging economy context, Jordan. It proposes integration and extension, through adding external environment and PET, of the theory of planned behavior to explore young female students’ attitudes and intentions toward sustainable entrepreneurship in tourism and hospitality.

Abstract

Purpose

The present study aims to examine the influence of environmental quality, renewable energy, non-renewable energy and quality of governance on sustainable development in two panels of 23 Asian and 8 European emerging countries during the 1996–2022 period.

Design/methodology/approach

The present study employed second-generation methods of panel data analysis, which account for cross-sectional dependency and heterogeneity to achieve a more reliable conclusion.

Findings

The augmented mean group and common correlated effects mean group estimation findings exhibit the negative influence of environmental degradation and non-renewable energy on sustainable development, whereas the findings exhibit the positive effect of renewable energy and governance quality on sustainable development.

Practical implications

The findings point out to policymakers and governments the importance of the adoption and implementation of policies to protect the environment, as well as promoting renewable energy incentive policies. Moreover, enhancing governance quality and striving towards good governance is essential for the successful adoption and implementation of energy and environment policies, as well as achieving sustainable development goals.

Originality/value

The present research contributes to the existing related literature in several ways. Adjusted net saving (ANS) is employed as a comprehensive indicator of sustainable development and ecological footprint (EFP) is employed as an exhaustive indicator of the environment’s quality rather than carbon dioxide emissions. In overall, this study is the first, to the best of our awareness, to simultaneously consider ANS, EFP and governance quality for examining the relationship among energy, environmental quality and sustainable development, especially in Asian and European emerging economies.

Abstract

Purpose

This works provides a thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with Additive Manufacturing (AM) adoption in the medical sector. Through this analysis, we aim to better understand when to adopt AM, how to do so, and how such adoption might change in the future.

Design/methodology/approach

This research first conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) to identify AM challenges and opportunities in the medical sector, which were then validated through a Delphi study. The 18 Delphi study participants were also asked to suggest countermeasures for the challenges and help identify future AM adoption scenarios. Finally, these findings were analyzed according to the ecosystem pie model to design an ecosystem model for AM in the medical sector.

Findings

Among the 13 challenges and 13 opportunities identified, the lack of a skilled workforce and the responsiveness achievable via AM were by far the most relevant challenge and opportunity. Moreover, the participants identified countermeasures for 10 challenges, as well as three future AM adoption scenarios. Finally, leveraging these findings, an ecosystem model was developed.

Originality/value

This work contributes to the limited understanding of the AM challenges and opportunities in the medical sector. It helps medical practitioners to better understand the challenges and opportunities associated with AM and AM manufacturers to better identify where to focus their R&D efforts and how this would impact future AM adoption levels. Furthermore, this work extends current theory supporting the design of an ecosystem model for AM in the medical sector following the ecosystem pie model.

Abstract

Disruptive technologies have changed the way that firms model their business approach. The aim of this study is to analyse the influence of novel digital technologies (artificial intelligence [AI] and machine learning [ML]) and big data analytics on the digital transformation of digital marketing firms. This research study is based on a review of the extant literature, using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Gaps in the extant research literature were identified and emerged that are directly linked with the impact of AI, ML and big data analytics on digital transformation for digital marketing firms. Potential opportunities for digital transformation in digital firms were also unlocked, as well as related challenges. The research informs practice and policy for the current trends and provides future research directions. The study was limited to the application of the PRISMA methodology, which is incapable of fully providing testable results for a given study. Complementary cross-sectional research studies using the same methodology in different areas of study with the same topic can be applied to check for relevancy and applicability. This study contributes to digital marketing, information communication technologies, information systems practice and theory building. In addition, it provides researchers with an agenda for future digital transformation research directions.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to review to what extent Islamic banks carry conventional monetary policy impulses. Hence, the authors focus to review on the presence or absence of an Islamic financing channel.

Design/methodology/approach

A systematic approach to the literature review was adopted. The search criterion is confined to empirical studies that examined the transmission of interest-based monetary policy through Islamic banks’ financing, particularly empirical studies that check the existence of an Islamic bank financing channel of conventional monetary policy. By adopting a systematic approach, over 40 empirical papers published in Scopus and Google Scholar were selected for review and analysis to suggest prospects for future analysis in this field.

Findings

The existence of Islamic banks may raise concerns for local central banks, particularly in terms of implementing monetary policies that rely on interest rates. Indeed, the specific nature of the business model of Islamic banks based on the sharing of losses and profits as an alternative to interest rate–based remuneration suggests a priori the non-transmission of monetary policy through these free-interest banks. Despite this, the actual asset structure of Islamic banks may facilitate the transmission of monetary impulses to the economy. Currently, there are limited and inconclusive empirical studies on how Islamic bank financing contributes to the transmission of monetary policy. Additional research is required to fully comprehend the response of Islamic banks to fluctuations in monetary policy interest rates, as well as the factors that impact their reactions.

Originality/value

This literature review is incredibly important as it thoroughly examines a critical issue from both academic and practical perspectives. Analyzing how monetary policy actions can be transmitted through Islamic bank financing is an important task that can provide insights for future research. A straightforward response to this inquiry could assist central banks in formulating effective monetary policy.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to analyze both technical efficiency and allocative efficiency per input within the banking sector, focusing on the interplay among Islamic banks, conventional banks and conventional banks offering Islamic Banking Services (CBIBS). It also investigates the impact of competition on these efficiencies.

Design/methodology/approach

Using data from 37 Islamic banks, 38 CBIBS and 126 conventional banks across 14 countries in the MENA region and Southeast Asia over the period 2002–2022, the authors applied a stochastic frontier production model with first-order conditions, a two-step system generalized method of moments estimator and the Tobit model for robustness checks.

Findings

The findings indicate that Islamic banks demonstrate the highest technical efficiency, whereas CBIBS exhibit the lowest. Despite this, Islamic banks encounter significant challenges in allocative inefficiency, particularly in managing financial capital, which adversely affects their cost efficiency. Interestingly, competition enhances the allocative efficiency of financial capital in conventional banks and CBIBS but diminishes it in Islamic banks. Furthermore, control variables show varied impacts on efficiencies across different banking categories.

Research limitations/implications

These findings emphasize the need for collaboration between regulators and researchers to develop an efficiency measurement method that integrates financial, ethical and social aspects. It also highlights the importance of aligning banking with ethical financing practices and innovating products that optimize resource allocation, thereby enhancing both financial and ethical performance.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this paper is the first to analyze the allocative efficiency per input for the three categories of banks: Islamic, conventional and CBIBS, while highlighting the variety of competition effects.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate possible drivers of loyalty amongst Islamic banking customers in Gauteng, South Africa. We ponder the relationships of service fairness (a secondorder reflective construct) with perceived value, satisfaction, and loyalty.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were obtained from Islamic banking customers in South Africa using interview-administered questionnaires. A total of 350 responses were perceived as being suitable for data analysis. The measurement and structural models were measured through structural equation modelling.

Findings

Service fairness and perceived value were found to be important drivers of loyalty within this context.

Research limitations/implications

This study demonstrates that service fairness and perceived value are precursors to the future loyalty intentions of Islamic banking customers. As such, they should be nurtured as key elements of the relationship building process.

Practical implications

The study guides South African Islamic banks and South African banks with Islamic windows to better understand how service fairness (interactional, procedural and distributive) fosters satisfaction, perceived value and loyalty (attitudinal and behavioural).

Originality/value

Enhancing comprehension of the relationship between service fairness and customer loyalty, with satisfaction and perceived value playing intermediary roles, represents an unexplored avenue in academic research within the context of Islamic banking in an emerging African market.

Abstract

Purpose

This study investigates the impact of intellectual capital (IC) and green innovation (GI) on the financial performance (FP) of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) within creative industry in India. It also explores the mediating role of sustainability in these relationships, aiming to provide insights into how these factors contribute to business success and long-term sustainability within the creative sector.

Design/methodology/approach

The research uses a quantitative methodology, analyzing data collected from creative MSMEs in India. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is used to test the hypotheses. Data was gathered through a structured questionnaire, ensuring a comprehensive analysis of the relationships among the constructs.

Findings

The study reveals significant positive relationships between IC, GI, sustainability and FP in small and midsize creative businesses. IC and GI positively influence FP, with sustainability acting as a mediating factor. These findings illustrate that integrating sustainability into business strategies can amplify the benefits derived from IC and GI.

Originality/value

This study advances the understanding of FP in creative MSMEs by examining the impact of IC and GI through the lens of sustainability. It introduces a framework that demonstrates how strategic resources and sustainable practices can be leveraged to achieve significant business outcomes. By providing insights into how sustainability initiatives enhance operational efficiency and profitability, this research offers a transformative approach to integrating sustainability into business strategy. The findings contribute to a generalizable model applicable across various sectors and regions, enriching the discourse on sustainable business practices.
