Abstract

Purpose

The study aims to explore the dimensions of Quality 4.0 adoption, prioritization of these dimensions and the influential dimensions and their causal relationships that can guide the smooth adoption of Quality 4.0 to boost organizational performance.

Design/methodology/approach

The Quality 4.0 dimensions are explored from the extant literature. The qualitative data were captured from 12 highly experienced experts from diverse industries and academia through structured interview questions and group discussions in multiple phases. The inputs obtained from the experts were analyzed using Fuzzy-Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution for dimension priority, and Fuzzy-Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory was employed to reveal the influential relationship between them.

Findings

The analysis reveals that quality scalability, quality culture and quality conformance are investigated as primary drivers of Quality 4.0 adoption. Data-driven analytical thinking and customer centricity emerge as dynamic dimensions that act as quality deliverable ends. Integrating these methodologies provides a robust framework for understanding and managing Quality 4.0 complexities, offering actionable insights for prioritizing initiatives and addressing interdependencies to ensure successful adoption and implementation.

Practical implications

The practical implications guide industries in creating strategic action plans tailored to their needs and fostering a quality-focused culture. The study also offers valuable insights into government policies, promoting sustainability, efficiency and a circular economy.

Originality/value

The study’s novelty lies in its prioritization and examination of the most influential causes and effects within the Quality 4.0 dimensions. This approach highlights core drivers and critical factors, providing a comprehensive framework for successful implementation.

Abstract

The University of Arizona Libraries (UAL) has engaged in learning and applying trauma-informed concepts since 2020. These efforts followed conversations about how to compassionately uphold the libraries' Code of Conduct (CoC). Conversations occurred against the backdrop of the global COVID-19 pandemic, a national racial reckoning following the murder of George Floyd and a series of local incidents including border control, racial aggression, insecure access to basic needs and mental health services, and the recent on-campus homicide of a faculty member. In response, the library's Diversity, Social Justice, and Equity Council (DSJEC) began working to identify resources for trauma-informed services and leadership. UAL has interrogated the ways in which the CoC serves both as a response to expressions of trauma and a potential perpetuating source of trauma for patrons and staff. Moreover, many staff members have experienced trauma that occurred either within or outside the workplace that affects their work experience. UAL contracted with relational healing and life coach Nisha Mody to deliver a series of webinars introducing trauma-informed concepts and connecting them to academic library work.

A result of trauma-informed training was a deeper knowledge of trauma-informed principles and their connection to systemic inequity and power. For this reason, UAL and other academic libraries may encounter challenges when applying trauma-informed practices within the administrative and cultural context of higher education.

Abstract

Purpose

India's Muslim women (MW) face significant underrepresentation within the government and commercial sectors, rendering them virtually invisible in the job market. This underrepresentation is compounded by the double stigma of being both Muslim and female. As a result, this study aims to address this critical issue by looking into MW's intention to work in the industry of tourism and hospitality (T&H).

Design/methodology/approach

A survey was conducted online to gather data and 404 of the responses met the requirements for selection. The research model was empirically assessed by applying structural equation modelling. The data collection phase spanned from August 11, 2023, to November 10, 2023.

Findings

The study's findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the extended theory of planned behaviour in providing a robust model for analysing MW's intentions to participate in the T&H industry.

Research limitations/implications

This research discloses inclusive policies, reduces discrimination, empowers women in the workforce, improves educational opportunities, promotes cultural sensitivity and fosters inclusive leadership in the T&H industry, focusing on MW career intentions, to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality).

Originality/value

The importance of this study is contingent upon its ability to inform policymakers in academia and the T&H sector. By recognising and addressing the barriers faced by MW, it has the potential to foster a workplace environment that promotes equality and eliminates discrimination, ultimately improving the image of the T&H industry and harnessing the untapped potential of these women in India.

Abstract

Purpose

This study broadly intends to explore the impact of perceived consumer experience in branchless Islamic banking on consumer satisfaction, which may enhance financial inclusion of rural people in Islamic banking activities. Specifically, this study sets three objectives: first, to explore the effects of Islamic bank consumers’ experience on disconfirmation and satisfaction; second, to investigate the impact of expectations on service performance, disconfirmation and consumer-perceived experience; and third, to examine consumer satisfaction in Islamic branchless banking to broadly examine the status of overall financial inclusion.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected from selected consumers of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) using a random sampling procedure. The selected consumers of eight remote branchless locations of the Islamic bank were interviewed face-to-face. Data were processed using PLS-SEM.

Findings

The results of the study show that all hypotheses were supported, indicating consumers’ experience, expectations and performance significantly influence their branchless Islamic banking satisfaction. This indicates that branchless Islamic banking can enhance consumer satisfaction and ensure the wider financial inclusion of remotely located rural people in banking activities.

Research limitations/implications

From a theoretical perspective, the study findings show the robustness of the expectancy disconfirmation theory (EDT) for aiding to predict customer satisfaction in branchless Islamic banking activities. Other studies have also fruitfully used EDT as a theoretical framework from which to explain citizenship satisfaction in local governments of the public domain (Van Ryzen, 2004, 2006, 2013) or to explain customer satisfaction in variety of programs (Oliver, 1980, 1997, 2014). From the same perspective, the model implies that the important role of perceived consumer expectation significantly determines consumer satisfaction in the branchless Islamic banking initiative.

Practical implications

From a practical perspective, it is implied that digitally operated branchless Islamic banking is the most convenient banking process. On the one hand, it entails extensive financial inclusion of rural and remote areas of the country and minimizes operating costs of banking operations; on the other hand, it is opening the door to profit maximization for the banking industry. The findings from this research will practically imply the way for new horizons in the application of branchless banking within the Islamic banking and finance sector. In this regard, policy planners ought to be more careful in formulating banking and financial outlays by which digital or branchless banking facilities may be extensively spread to reach the unbanked populace across the nation within a short-possible time frame.

Social implications

The findings from this research will pave the way for new horizons in the application FinTech within the Islamic banking and finance sector. Such studies should also take into account the emerging phenomenon of combining Shari’ah and FinTech, referred to as Shari’ah FinTech, to fully explore its potential and implications for the industry. Thus, the banking industry as a whole ought to be attentive to extending this type of digital transformation in the banking industry to provide win-win situations for both the client and agent in the financial and banking operations in the country.

Originality/value

This research is based on primary data and provides significant results in terms of digital customer satisfaction.

Abstract

Purpose

Effective human resource management and organisational success depend heavily on measuring employee performance. This paper aims to investigate multiple factors that are crucial in assessing and measuring employee performance in Indian manufacturing sectors. Further prioritisation of the manufacturing industries based on their practices is conducted to measure employee performance.

Design/methodology/approach

The LOCOW approach has been used in this study to determine the relative weightage of the factors that assist in measuring employee performance, and the MARCOS method prioritises manufacturing industries.

Findings

Through weightage, criteria show that task performance is given the most weightage, followed by adaptability and contextual performance in the manufacturing sectors. The top three industries are oil and gas, steel and automobile.

Practical implications

This study gives manufacturing industries the tools they need to improve their HR practices, get better work from their employees and stay ahead of the competition in a constantly changing industry.

Originality/value

The current work examines the weightage among the factors that aid in assessing employee performance; further, the use of MARCOS technique prioritises the industries, which can be considered the original contribution.

Abstract

Purpose

To determine the electrical, structural, optical and transport properties calculated using WIEN2k code.

Design/methodology/approach

By employing the WIEN2k code, we have theoretically examined the physical properties of the full-Heusler Te2AcGa alloy. The FP-LAPW technique is utilized for theoretical calculations.

Findings

An indirect bandgap of 0.42 eV is seen with the GGA potential. An enhancement in bandgap with a value of 0.97 eV is observed with mBJ potential. The density of states is determined to verify the band structure profile. The dynamical and structural stability is attained through the computations. The electron density contour plot is utilized to explore the bonding nature of the compound. Optical properties have been calculated with respective potentials showing significant absorption in the visible region. Furthermore, thermoelectric properties have been evaluated to confirm the potential of Te2AcGa for thermoelectric devices. At elevated temperatures, the ZT with mBJ potential obtained a large value of 0.8.

Research limitations/implications

High absorption and ZT values make the Te2AcGa alloy have potential for optoelectronic and renewable energy devices.

Originality/value

In the submitted manuscript, first principle calculations are carried out for the first time to study the structural, dynamic, electronic, optical and thermoelectric properties of the full-Heusler Te2AcGa alloy. Modified Becke–Johnson (mBJ) exchange-correlation potential provides very accurate results. The bandgap profiles and related properties are calculated in the present work. The entire work gives useful results of fundamental importance, which can be utilized for the fabrication of optoelectronic and thermoelectric applications.

Abstract

Purpose

Green banking has evolved in the financial sector to reduce the negative impact of economic progress. However, customers’ behavior remains indifferent towards bank’s green initiatives across nations. Therefore, this study examines the various factors affecting the behavior of Indian banking customers towards green banking by extending the theory of planned behavior (TPB).

Design/methodology/approach

The study employed a quantitative research approach and distributed a self-administered questionnaire. Data from the 293 green banking service users in India’s Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) have been collected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques. SPSS 26 and SmartPLS 3 were used to analyze data.

Findings

The findings explained that environmental concern substantially predicts customer attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavior control towards green banking. Moreover, all the constructs within the TPB model were found to substantially impact customers’ inclination to adopt green banking, thereby leading to actual behavior.

Research limitations/implications

Academically, the findings have broadened the TPB model’s application by adding a new construct in the context of green banking while confirming its applicability. Practically, it advises financial regulators and banking personnel to prioritize establishing a conducive environment for customers, characterized by the accessibility of green banking services under favorable conditions and at affordable rates.

Originality/value

The study enhanced the understanding towards green banking by correlating different variables and extending the TPB model using SmartPLS 3 in the domain of green banking.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to examine the current state of makerspaces in Indian academic libraries. The history of makerspace and its introduction in academic libraries have been elaborated and analysed. Makerspaces of three different academic libraries in Northern India have been compared in the study.

Design/methodology/approach

The data was collected using a well-structured interview schedule as well as complemented from the website of the institutions in the study. Field visits to the makerspaces were also conducted for understanding how users are working in makerspaces and the different benefits they gained from such working environments. The different tools and facilities provided by the makerspaces were also analysed and it was found that a versatile group of users can easily collaborate with the help of such interactive and lively environment.

Findings

It was found that tools like 3D printers enhanced the benefits and enriched creativity amongst non-tech savvy users too, by giving them a chance of using such tools. Interaction between different groups of people belonging to different fields and having varied experiences and expertise was also reported to be an important aspect of makerspaces. These places also were found to support the “Do it Yourself” culture among youngsters using the libraries. The study concludes that makerspaces are innovative ways in which libraries can encourage more and more users towards the libraries.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is one of the first studies on makerspaces in academic libraries in context of a growing economy like India. Makerspaces can be significantly useful for proper space management and utilisation of resources for academic libraries.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to critically examine and address the historical gender biases within heritage tourism, particularly focusing on the marginalisation of women’s narratives, and subsequently, to advocate for a more inclusive and gender-neutral approach in both the interpretation and management of cultural and heritage tourism.

Design/methodology/approach

Rather than adhering strictly to one methodological tradition, the pragmatist framework for this study involves a cursory review of extant academic literature pertaining to the historical representation of women in heritage tourism. Since pragmatism acknowledges that theories are context-dependent, the review is coupled with a discerning reflection on our own extensive body of work spanning the last 15 years, particularly focusing on gender dynamics and women’s roles within the broader context of tourism studies.

Findings

Findings advocate for investigating the use of women’s histories to foster diversity in cultural heritage and heritage tourism; highlighting marginalised indigenous and migrant women; examining the impact of inclusivity changes on urban spatial practices; and advancing historical methodologies for non-Anglo women’s histories in heritage tourism.

Originality/value

The paper underscores a positive shift in the tourism academy towards recognising diversity in research and, in line with this, contributes to a prospective research agenda that advocates for the nuanced exploration of women’s histories in the promotion of diversity and inclusivity in cultural heritage and heritage tourism management.

Propósito

El objetivo de este artículo es examinar y abordar críticamente los sesgos históricos de género en el turismo patrimonial, en particular centrándose en la marginación de las narrativas de las mujeres y, posteriormente, abogando por un enfoque más inclusivo y neutro desde el punto de vista del género, tanto en la interpretación como en la gestión del turismo cultural y patrimonial.

Diseño/metodología/enfoque

En lugar de adherirse estrictamente a una tradición metodológica, el marco pragmatista de este estudio implica una revisión somera de la literatura académica existente sobre la representación histórica de las mujeres en el turismo patrimonial. Dado que el pragmatismo reconoce que las teorías dependen del contexto, la revisión se complementa con una reflexión perspicaz sobre nuestro extenso corpus de trabajo de los últimos 15 años, centrándose particularmente en la dinámica de género y en los roles de las mujeres en el contexto más amplio de los estudios de turismo.

Resultados

Las conclusiones abogan por investigar el uso de las historias de mujeres para fomentar la diversidad en el patrimonio cultural y el turismo patrimonial; poner de relieve a las mujeres indígenas y migrantes marginadas; examinar el impacto de los cambios inclusivos en las prácticas espaciales urbanas; y avanzar en las metodologías históricas para las historias de mujeres no anglosajonas en el turismo patrimonial.

Originalidad/valor

Este artículo subraya un cambio positivo en la academia de turismo hacia el reconocimiento de la diversidad en la investigación y, en consonancia con ello, contribuye a una agenda de investigación prospectiva que aboga por la exploración matizada de las historias de las mujeres en la promoción de la diversidad y la inclusión en la gestión del patrimonio cultural y del turismo patrimonial.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate possible drivers of loyalty amongst Islamic banking customers in Gauteng, South Africa. We ponder the relationships of service fairness (a secondorder reflective construct) with perceived value, satisfaction, and loyalty.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were obtained from Islamic banking customers in South Africa using interview-administered questionnaires. A total of 350 responses were perceived as being suitable for data analysis. The measurement and structural models were measured through structural equation modelling.

Findings

Service fairness and perceived value were found to be important drivers of loyalty within this context.

Research limitations/implications

This study demonstrates that service fairness and perceived value are precursors to the future loyalty intentions of Islamic banking customers. As such, they should be nurtured as key elements of the relationship building process.

Practical implications

The study guides South African Islamic banks and South African banks with Islamic windows to better understand how service fairness (interactional, procedural and distributive) fosters satisfaction, perceived value and loyalty (attitudinal and behavioural).

Originality/value

Enhancing comprehension of the relationship between service fairness and customer loyalty, with satisfaction and perceived value playing intermediary roles, represents an unexplored avenue in academic research within the context of Islamic banking in an emerging African market.
