Abstract
Purpose
The study aims to add to the existing literature on food supply chains by specifically taking into the redesigning of the alignment of storage, packaging and distribution practices in the modern complex supply chain. The redesign of the food supply chain’s storage, distribution and packaging is a transformative endeavor ultimately aimed at enhancing efficiency, sustainability and reliability.
Design/methodology/approach
In order to identify, classify and prioritize the main challenges, this study conducted an extensive analysis of the literature and experts’ opinions in the areas of academia, information technology and the food supply chain (FSC) using combined compromise solution method (CoCoSo) and complex proportional assessment (COPRAS).
Findings
The top three classes of key indicators revealed in this study are dynamic route optimization and on-demand delivery pods (RD4), implementation of active packaging with nanotechnology (RP3) and collaborative last-mile (RD2). The findings reveal that dynamic route optimization and on-demand delivery pods (RD4) and collaborative last-mile (RD2) are maintaining a balance between collaborative delivery networks through route optimization which is a very discussable theme in recent literature.
Originality/value
The research provides fresh insights into how perishable food shelf life parameters and the use of distribution networks within the short supply chain can be taken into consideration when redesigning the storage, packaging and distribution system for food supply chains.

Abstract
Purpose
Social media use is prevalent today, but there is a possibility that it might go out of control and cause negative consequences. Furthermore, by using social media at work, businesses may develop their networks, communicate in a productive manner and ultimately expand the efficiency. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of social media use (SMU) on job performance (JP) through sequential mediators such as social capital dimensions (SC), self-efficacy (SE), job satisfaction (JS) and knowledge sharing (KS) in Indian Public Universities.
Design/methodology/approach
Serial mediation model has been used in the study to analyse the relationship. Data is collected from teaching faculty (n = 702) who use social media in Indian public universities. The study has assessed the association between variables using structural equation modelling.
Findings
The findings suggest that the dimensions of SC, SE, JS and KS sequentially mediated the effect of SMU on JP. In light of the results, the SMU specifies prerequisites for the development of various dimensions of SC. Similarly, the rest of the mediating constructs further affect the other constructs, which ultimately positively affect JP. The final result shows that the indirect effect between social media use and job performance is positive and significant.
Practical implications
The study provides practical suggestions for university administration regarding the use of social media for teaching faculty.
Originality/value
No research has been done regarding social media use affecting the job performance of teaching faculty through serial mediation in public universities. In this respect, this study represents an original attempt to conduct such research.

Abstract
Purpose
The paper aims to examine the effect of justice perceptions of performance appraisal (JPPA) practices (i.e. distributive, procedural, informational and interpersonal justice) on organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) and affective commitment (AC) and the effect of AC on OCB. Further, it investigates the mediating role of AC in the relationship between JPPA practices and OCB. Moreover, this study examines the moderating effect of job level on the relationship between JPPA practices and OCB.
Design/methodology/approach
The data were collected using a self-reported structured questionnaire. A total of 650 questionnaires were distributed among the employees of 50 information technology (IT) companies in India, and 503 samples were obtained. The conceptual framework was tested using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) method, and the moderating effect was tested using process macro.
Findings
The findings of this study reveal that the JPPA practices positively affect OCB and AC and AC affects OCB. Further, AC partially mediates this relationship between JPPA practices and OCB. Furthermore, the direct effect of JPPA practices on OCB happens to be strengthened when the job level decreases, thus confirming the moderating role of job level.
Research limitations/implications
The findings of this study augment the social exchange theory (SET) by suggesting that individuals perceiving justice or fairness in performance appraisal practices are likely to have a greater AC that ultimately engages employees in OCB.
Practical implications
This study will be helpful for human resource practitioners in IT companies who are responsible for the fairness of performance appraisal practices and expect their employees to be emotionally attached to the organization and engaged in OCB.
Originality/value
The study adds to the body of knowledge of how justice in performance appraisal practices links to OCB through AC and moderates by job level in an emerging economy in Asia.
