Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to improve the stability and dyeing properties of natural curcumin by adsorption packaging technology, and promote the clean dyeing technology of wool fabrics.

Design/methodology/approach

The response surface method was used to optimize the dyeing process of wool fabrics. The color fastnesses and the K/S value of the dyed wool fabrics were tested and analyzed, as well as the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation of wool fibers.

Findings

The mordant dyeing method was optimized using the response surface method under pH 3.5 and a 1:50 dye bath ratio. The results showed that the mordant dyeing method was one-bath, two-step post-mordant and the optimized dyeing process was as follows: dyeing time 70 min, dyeing temperature 70°C and the dosage of mordant was 2% and yielding a K/S value of 35.22. The dyed wool had excellent rub and wash fastness (grade 4+), but inadequate light fastness, to be improved later. The results of SEM demonstrated that the optimized dyeing processes had no adverse effects on wool fibers.

Originality/value

No comprehensive and systematic study reports have been conducted on the dyeing process of wool fabric using natural curcumin pigment, which is adsorbed and packaged by ZIF-8, and researchers have not used statistical analysis to optimize the dyeing process using response surface methodology.

Abstract

Purpose

This bibliometric analysis aims to comprehensively explore the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and high-to-room-temperature superconductors. Focusing on scientific literature, the study investigates trends, collaboration patterns and impactful publications in this interdisciplinary field.

Design/methodology/approach

The research employs an advanced search query in the Scopus database, targeting articles on the development of superconductors using artificial intelligence. Data collection involves executing the query, saving the results as a CSV file and analyzing it using R-Studio and VOSviewer. Statistical tools, T-tests, regression analysis and Python coding are utilized to enhance the depth of analysis.

Findings

The analysis spans various dimensions, including the overview of bibliometric characteristics, annual scientific production, average citations per year, sources of publications and source production over time. Noteworthy findings include a sustained growth in annual scientific production, a peak in average citations in specific years and the identification of influential journals shaping the field.

Research limitations/implications

While the analysis provides valuable insights, limitations include the potential influence of research biases and the exclusion of non-English articles. Further exploration is encouraged to address these limitations and gain a more nuanced understanding of the field.

Practical implications

Practically, this study aids researchers, practitioners and stakeholders in staying informed, identifying collaboration opportunities and contributing meaningfully to the ongoing growth and impact of high-to-room-temperature superconductors using artificial intelligence.

Social implications

Socially, the study underscores the collaborative and global nature of research in this field, emphasizing the shared endeavor worldwide to advance the understanding and application of superconductors through artificial intelligence.

Abstract

Purpose

3-MCPD (3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol) and glycidyl esters (GE) are process contaminants generated during thermal processing, associated with adverse health effects, including carcinogenicity and genotoxicity. This study aims to investigate the impact of the use of artificial [butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA)] and natural (nettle and olive leaf) antioxidants in palm olein oil during deep-fat frying on the levels of 3-Monochloropropan-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) and GE in French fries samples.

Design/methodology/approach

Artificial antioxidants BHT and BHA, along with natural antioxidants from nettle (Urtica dioica L.) and olive leaf (Olea europaea L. folium) extracts, were incorporated into palm olein oil during deep frying. Frying was conducted repeatedly over a period of three days. The 3-MCPD and GE contents of the oils collected from the French fries during the frying process were quantified using the AOCS analytical method.

Findings

The finding indicated that the levels of 3-MCPD and GE in the french fry samples from groups with both artificial and natural antioxidants were reduced compared to the control group (p < 0.001, p < 0.001; respectively). Upon examination of all data, Nettle extract exhibited the highest level of 3-MCPD ester (1.66 ± 0.01 ppm); whereas the BHT+BHA group demonstrated the lowest level (0.52 ± 0.01 ppm). The analysis of GE levels revealed a maximum of 1.59 ± 0.01 ppm in the control group and a minimum of 1.22 ± 0.34 ppm in the group treated with Nettle extract.

Originality/value

This study assessed the levels of 3-MCPD and GE in repeated deep-frying with palm olein supplemented with olive leaf and nettle extract, a novel investigation to date.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to examine whether corporate culture and stakeholder type influence the level of corporate social responsibility disclosure (CSRD) and, if so, the motivations behind this.

Design/methodology/approach

An experimental method was adopted in this study to achieve the research objectives by evaluating the perceptions and motivations for CSRD among 120 participants (financial managers and accountants) from 50 financial institutions listed on Boursa Kuwait.

Findings

Results indicate that perceptions of CSRD are strongly affected by stakeholder type but not corporate culture. When these two factors are considered jointly, they do not affect the level of CSRD. Regarding motivations, participants from Conventional Financial Institutions seek legitimacy by opting to provide higher levels of CSRD to both shareholders and the general public than those from Islamic Financial Institutions.

Practical implications

This study has implications for three groups: institutions, society and accountants. Each group plays a crucial role in how financial institutions practicing corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Originality/value

Few studies have compared CSR practices between these two types of institutions, with most being descriptive. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this study is the first to use an experimental approach, which controls for all potential factors determining CSRD.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the corrosion behavior of Cu-containing 3Ni steel in simulated marine environments and to provide basic guidance for improving the corrosion resistance of marine high-strength steels.

Design/methodology/approach

The corrosion properties of Cu-containing 3Ni steel were evaluated in five different NaCl concentrations by alternating wet and dry cycling method. The corrosion behavior was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The mechanism of the influence of Cl ion concentrations on the corrosion behavior of Cu-containing 3Ni steel in marine environments was analyzed.

Findings

The results showed that the corrosion resistance of Cu-containing 3Ni steel decreased with NaCl concentration increasing. With the increase of NaCl concentration, the number of FeOOH particles decreased and their size increased, resulting in an increase in the porosity and a decrease in the density of corrosion products. High NaCl concentration could inhibit the formation of NiFe2O4 and disrupt the electronegativity of the inner film of corrosion products, which further weakened the enrichment of Ni and Cu, and enhanced the permeability of Cl ions.

Originality/value

The influence of NaCl concentrations on the corrosion behavior of Cu-containing 3Ni steel was systematically studied and the influence laws of corrosion behavior were obtained in this paper, providing basic data for the optimal design of Cu-containing 3Ni steels.

Abstract

Purpose

Green innovation in human-centric smart manufacturing (HSM-GI) has emerged as a new paradigm in innovation management for Industry 5.0. The evaluation analysis method is crucial for measuring the development progress and guiding continual improvements of HSM-GI. Since this process of HSM-GI can be regarded as complex and interactive, a holistic picture is often required to describe the interrelations of its antecedents and consequences. In this respect, this study aims to construct a causality network indicator system and proposes a synergy evaluation method for HSM-GI.

Design/methodology/approach

Firstly, based on the Driver force-State-Response (DSR) causal-effect framework, this study constructs a holistic indicator system to analyze the interactions between environmental and human concerns of HSM-GI. Secondly, owing to the imprecision of human cognition and synergy interaction in the evaluation process, a flexible hesitant fuzzy (HF) superiority-inferiority synergetic evaluation method is presented. This method quantifies the strengths of causal relationships and expresses the incentives and constraints attitudes of humans. Finally, the proposed framework is applied to six HSMs in the electronic technology industry.

Findings

The driving force and state of the HSM-GI system exhibit an upward trend, while the response continues to decline due to changing market demands. The order and synergy degree have shown an increasing trend during 2021–2023, particularly significant for BOE and Haier Smart Home. HSM-GI systems with higher scores mostly have functional coordination and a coherent synergy structure.

Originality/value

This study demonstrates the proposed approach’s applicability and assists policymakers in formulating targeted strategies for green innovation systems.

Abstract

Purpose

The present study was designed with the aim of investigating the association between different dietary fatty acids and the risk of Gallstone disease (GSD).

Design/methodology/approach

The authors conducted a hospital-based, case-control study on 189 newly diagnosed GSD patients and 342 controls. Total fat and individual fatty acids, including monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and saturated fatty acids (SFA) were assessed.

Findings

Increased risk of GSD was observed in the highest tertile of total dietary fat (OR = 1.6, CI 95%: 1.09–2.8, p = 0.002) in the fully adjusted model. Comparing the highest intake with the first tertile, showed that intake of PUFA was significantly associated with a decrease in the risk of GSD (OR = 0.87, CI 95%: 0.5–1.5, p = 0.001), and intake of SFA (OR = 1.3, CI 95%: 1.07–2.2, p = 0.001) was associated with an increase in the risk of gallstones.

Originality/value

In this study, for the first time, we explored the role of dietary fatty acids in the development of GSD, including PUFA, MUFA and SFA. Their results could help elucidate the association between fatty acids and GSD more precisely and may be beneficial in prevention and treatment of cholelithiasis.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to focus on the main materials used in consolidation processes of illuminated paper manuscripts and leather binding.

Design/methodology/approach

For each material, chemical structure, chemical composition, molecular formula, solubility, advantages, disadvantages and its role in treatment process are presented.

Findings

This study concluded that carboxy methyl cellulose, hydroxy propyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, cellulose acetate, nanocrystalline cellulose, funori, sturgeon glue, poly vinyl alcohol, chitosan, chitosan nanoparticles (NPs), gelatin, aquazol, paraloid B72 and hydroxyapatite NPs were the most common and important materials used for the consolidation of illuminated paper manuscripts. For the leather bindings, hydroxy propyl cellulose, polyethylene glycol, oligomeric melamine-formaldehyde resin, acrylic wax SC6000, pliantex, paraloid B67 and B72, silicone oil and collagen NPs are the most consolidants used.

Originality/value

Illuminated paper manuscripts with leather binding are considered one of the most important objects in libraries, museums and storehouses. The uncontrolled conditions and other deterioration factors inside the libraries and storehouses lead to degradation of these artifacts. The brittleness, fragility and weakness are considered the most common deterioration aspects of illuminated paper manuscripts and leather binding. Therefore, the consolidation process became vital and important to solve this problem. This study presents the main materials used for consolidation process of illuminated paper manuscripts and leather bindings.

Abstract

Purpose

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to dramatically change the human approaches to work, and specifically to learning and development. While AI coaching can reduce costs and increase accessibility, it also presents both opportunities and threats to human coaches. The objective of this study was to conduct a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed research on the use of AI in coaching.

Design/methodology/approach

A systematic literature review (SLR) method was used to search eight databases for articles produced up to March 2024. Data extraction was conducted, with Quality Assessment undertaken independently, in parallel, using two researchers and a third arbiter. The ROBINS-I tool was used to assess the risk of bias in the included studies. A narrative synthesis of a total of 16 quantitative, qualitative or mixed-method studies covering n = 2312.

Findings

The SLR identified four key themes: Research design and AI integration, AI usefulness in coaching, impact of AI coaching and ethical considerations. The findings suggest that AI coaches can be effective, accepted, useful and match human coaches in competence for specific tasks.

Practical implications

AI coaching is a growing area of practice and research. This paper brings together the literature and identifies future research priorities and potential next steps in AI coach development.

Originality/value

The paper uses clinical research SLR methods applying these robust processes to the field of organisational research, to set a new standard through the use of a pre-determined research protocol, quality assessment and ROB, well providing a comprehensive literature review of AI coaching.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to prepare alkyd protective paint by using modified alkyd with 3,6-dichloro benzo[b]thiophene-2-carbonyl glutamic acid (DCBTGA) as a source of dicarboxylic acid and evaluating their anticorrosive properties compared with those of unmodified alkyd coatings for steel protection.

Design/methodology/approach

Short, medium and long oil alkyds, which represented as (0, 10, 20 and 30% excess-OH) according to the resin constants (Patton, 1962), were prepared through a condensation polymerization reaction via a solvent process in a one-step reaction. The modification of alkyd was carried out by using DCBTGA as a source of dicarboxylic acid. The prepared modified alkyd was confirmed by IR and NMR spectral analysis. The physicochemical, mechanical and anticorrosion performance properties of the considered modified coating formulations against unmodified blank coating were studied to confirm their application efficiency.

Findings

The best results in terms of physicochemical, mechanical and anticorrosion performance properties were found according to the following of this order activity: 30 replacements of the modifier (DCBTGA) for each hydroxyl continent were 30% Ex-OH > 20% Ex-OH > 10% Ex-OH > 0% Ex-OH, compared with that formulation containing unmodified alkyd, especially with increasing the modifier percent.

Originality/value

The prepared DCBTGA-modified resins can be used for different applications based on the type of alkyd and application.
