Abstract
Purpose
Economists and governments worldwide are largely concerned about sustainability, CO2 footprint and climate change, which are mostly caused by fossil fuel emissions. This study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the significant role played by renewable energy (RE) sources in generating clean energy for achieving sustainable net-zero standards and mitigating climate change.
Methodology
A thorough review of literature was conducted on the topic to provide insights into the existing state about the adoption of RE sources to achieve the net-zero goals.
Findings
As a result of the extensive review, it is found that all forms of RE, such as hydropower, solar energy, wind energy, bioenergy and geothermal power, are currently being used in many countries. Also, application of these sources across various sectors and their environmental consequences also vary for each RE source.
Implications
This chapter emphasises that adoption of RE sources is crucial to reduce the usage of limited fossil-based natural resources, which have significant negative effects on the environment. The adoption of RE at large scale requires the implementation of new regulations and policies along with technological progress for enhancing the affordability and effectiveness of these sources.
Originality
This chapter provides compelling evidence to support the acceleration of the transition from a vulnerable fossil fuel–dependent economy to a sustainable low-carbon one, with RE sources playing a central role.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to learn how the incorporation and use of leanness, agility and innovation in Indian manufacturing micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) affect their bottom lines and how much these factors contribute to the MSMEs’ ability to meet their long-term sustainability goals.
Design/methodology/approach
The suggested model was subjected to data validation and additional empirical validation using a sample of 411 Indian manufacturing MSMEs. The analysis of construct measures is conducted through the utilization of confirmatory factor analysis, a statistical technique that is grounded in the theoretical framework of structural equation modeling (SEM). In addition, path model analysis was applied for the purpose to validate the assumptions that were included in the structural models.
Findings
Consistent with the proposed model, the findings of this study demonstrate that leanness, agility and innovation have a substantial favorable impact on the sustainability of a company’s performance. These findings may be helpful in gaining professionals, academics and policymakers to acknowledge the significance of leanness, agility and innovation in enhancing the long-term sustainability of MSMEs and enhancing the overall performance of a particular company. This research excluded the service industries-based research papers.
Research limitations/implications
Many research in the field of manufacturing industries that have adopted leanness, agility, innovativeness and sustainability as individual approaches or as a collective methodology of two or more were considered in the current study. This research excluded the service industries-based research papers.
Practical implications
This literature review has recognized and analyzed various dimensions and roles of leanness, agility, innovativeness and sustainability that are prevalent in manufacturing industries that include the positive and negative effects on the performance of the industries. The research enlightens the path and shows future directions for research to develop efficient, effective and sustainable manufacturing industries.
Social implications
By promoting the concept of focusing on the “human factor”, namely, stakeholder perspectives, the MSME sector is propagating a strategy that moves away from an excessive focus on technology and toward a more humane one. Through the application of the three key concepts of leanness, agility and innovation, this work aims to create a framework for measuring the sustainability performance of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), with the ultimate goal of assisting the country in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the fields of industry, innovation and infrastructure by supporting environmentally friendly and resource-conserving businesses that give back to society and the natural environment.
Originality/value
The objective of this research is to assess the importance and effectiveness of integrating various approaches such as leanness, agility, innovativeness and sustainability within the framework of manufacturing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The authors hope that by going further into these concepts, they will be able to broaden their understanding and get a more comprehensive insight into the role that these concepts play and how they might be successfully used within this environment.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine if relational attachment could be considered as a mediator in the relationship between social support and career regret. The theoretical framework is based on Kahn’s (2007) work on meaningful connections.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors used a three-part survey for data collection, spread over two months from 368 employees for co-worker social support and 324 employees for supervisor social support working in different sectors in India.
Findings
The results indicate that for co-workers, relational attachment acts as a mediator between instrumental support and career regret; but for personal support, the mediation effect is absent. However, instrumental support is not directly related to career regret. Notably, in case of social support from the supervisor, there does not seem to be any mediation effect for personal or instrumental support. But social support is related to career regret for both categories of support.
Research limitations/implications
The authors contribute to literature that examines the mechanism, driving social support and career regret. By understanding how these factors interact and impact one another, researchers can develop interventions and strategies to help individuals navigate career decisions, improve their personal relationships and increase their access to social support. Ultimately, this research can lead to improved well-being and career satisfaction for individuals. As the sample is generalized, there is scope to examine if the relationships differ based on the work structures and idiosyncrasies of the industries.
Originality/value
This study examines the unmapped mechanism that mediates the social support and career regret relationship, and in the process, provides new directions for research.

Abstract
Purpose
This study seeks to review the existing literature on the challenges and issues of climate change and sustainability in the South Asian region.
Methodology
The study adopts the systematic literature review using the guidelines of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The sample consists of 39 studies highly relevant to the topic.
Findings
Population, urbanisation, poverty, inequality and health impacts were identified as socio-economic challenges. In contrast, deforestation and land degradation, water scarcity and quality, and biodiversity loss were identified as environmental challenges in mitigating climate change while achieving sustainability. Nonetheless, national, regional and international sustainability endeavours are still limited in their functionality and applications due to socio-economic inequalities, political problems and weak cohesiveness in the region.
Implications
The conclusions call for immediate concern to effective and concerted strategies and policies to address climate vulnerability and improve climate brilliant resilience in South Asia. Policymakers, practitioners and all those concerned with these phenomena are encouraged to utilise integrated strategies that focus on preventing and managing change, using technological innovations and promoting regional and international cooperation.
Originality
To the authors' knowledge, the current study differs from prior works because it employs a comprehensive systematic review to capture diverse literature on climate change issues and sustainable development endeavours within South Asia.

Abstract
Purpose
We explore the skills required for digital leadership for reshaping existing business models toward digital models. Digital leadership is pivotal in gaining a competitive advantage and achieving successful digital transformation. However, little is known with regard to the underlying mechanisms related to digital leadership and transformation.
Design/methodology/approach
Data are collected through semi-structured interviews involving 20 participants from five Pakistani textile companies. Thematic analysis was employed as a data analysis tool.
Findings
Findings show that certain skills such as technological know-how, innovativeness, adaptability, ability to lead and steer, honesty, integrity, transformative vision, communication and collaboration are conducive to successful digital transformation in textile manufacturing firms. Similarly, digital leaders can significantly enhance business model innovation, create value for the firm, help develop new products (value proposition) and create Ecosystem partnerships (value network).
Originality/value
This article bridges gaps between existing literature on digital transformation and leadership. Digital leadership skills for digital transformation and the role of digital leaders in business model innovation have not been explored before. The conceptual framework is put forth, propositions are proposed and the findings offer some future research directions.

The paper presents a systematic literature review on business model transformation (BMT). The aim of the study is to determine the main research streams in BMT literature, develop a conceptual model on BMT research, and identify potential directions for future research.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors use systematic literature review approach and provide a detailed protocol to meet reliability requirements. The study is based on the multilayer in-depth analysis of 92 articles published in leading international journal in general management, international business, strategy, innovation, and organization studies.
Findings
The paper identifies a crucial importance of further research on BMT with regards to the context specificity of a company's country of origin, transformation of value delivery and value capture blocks of BMs, entrepreneurial techniques of BMT management, and international aspects of BMT.
Originality/value
By a means of systematic literature review, the paper envisages the current state of knowledge about BMT, traces the development of BMT research, classifies it, and identifies potential directions for future inquiries.

Abstract
Purpose
Using the resource-based view (RBV), our study aims to provide theoretical and empirical insights into blockchain capabilities’ (BCs) compounded and sequential effects on supply chain competitive advantages (CA).
Design/methodology/approach
We combined a systematic literature review and an expert interview. Interpretive Structural Modelling and a Matrix of Cross-Impact Multiplications Applied to Classification were used to determine the relationship between the capabilities. Simple Additive Weighting assessed each capability’s relative importance and impact.
Findings
We reveal a sequential development path for BCs. Foundational capabilities, such as cybersecurity, provide immediate performance benefits, establishing a unique, valuable and inimitable resource. As firms progress to advanced capabilities, the compounded value of these capabilities generates a stronger, dynamic resource for sustained CA. Moreover, the study underscores the strategic importance of timing in adopting and developing BCs, as early adoption can secure a competitive edge difficult for later entrants to replicate.
Practical implications
Our proposed framework guides managers in incorporating blockchain technology into supply chain management (SCM) processes once it demonstrates that firms can enhance their CA by prioritizing the technical basics BC, leveraging the informational capabilities in level two and enabling effective problem-solving through level three. Our framework also shows that a learning process occurs as BCs are used and their results are explored.
Originality/value
Our study extends the RBV by demonstrating BCs’ cumulative and interdependent nature in SCM. It emphasizes the synergistic interactions between these capabilities, which collectively enhance CA.

Purpose
This article examines the strategic actions of multinational corporations (MNCs) in creating social value at the base of the pyramid (BoP), providing insights into novel business models (BMs) and tactics employed for poverty alleviation.
Design/methodology/approach
This conceptual article links three relevant pieces of literature – creating shared value (CSV), the three-value creation logic and the three core values of social development – to analyze the current research and real-world examples of MNCs implementing the BoP BMs.
Findings
The article identifies four strategies and 11 tactics used by MNCs to adapt BMs elements (value proposition, value constellation and value capture) and generate social value at the different levels (coverture of basic needs, self-esteem and freedom from servitude) by following the distinct value creation logics (chain, shop and network).
Originality/value
This article provides a conceptual framework that links relevant literature and sheds light on the strategic actions that MNCs apply in their BMs to tackle the multidimensionality of poverty in the BoP markets.

Purpose
Aside from grappling with technological advancements, enterprises in the industrial internet era are embracing business model innovation to align with the evolution of the industrial internet. However, a gap persists in the existing research regarding the strategies and methods available to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for executing business model innovation. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the connotation, characteristics and logic of business model innovation for SMEs in the industrial internet era.
Design/methodology/approach
To explore the business model innovation logic of small and medium-sized enterprises in the era of industrial internet, the paper adopts a longitudinal single-case study approach, with PAYA, a medium-sized enterprise in the electromechanical industry, serving as the subject of research. It systematically analyzes PAYA’s business model innovation, centering on four key elements of the business model: value proposition, value creation, value delivery and value capture.
Findings
The study proposes two types of business model innovation, namely, “Migration” and “Expansion”, and explains the logic of business model innovation for SMEs in the industrial internet era: faced with a rapidly changing market environment, entrepreneurs put forward the value proposition through the insight of the market environment, then enterprises conduct technological innovation to support the value creation by their own unique experience and knowledge, and then improve the legitimacy of the market by expanding the influence of market acceptance of the new business model to promote the value delivery, and finally capture the economic value and ecological value.
Originality/value
The types and logic of business model innovation proposed in this paper contribute to supplementing and developing the theory of business model innovation and meanwhile have important reference value for SMEs in the industrial internet era.
