Abstract

Purpose

Wheeled robots have been widely used in People’s Daily life. Accurate positioning is the premise of autonomous navigation. In this paper, an optimization-based visual-inertial-wheel odometer tightly coupled system is proposed, which solves the problem of failure of visual inertia initialization due to unobservable scale.The aim of this paper is to achieve robust localization of visually challenging scenes.

Design/methodology/approach

During system initialization, the wheel odometer measurement and visual-inertial odometry (VIO) fusion are initialized using maximum a posteriori (MAP). Aiming at the visual challenge scene, a fusion method of wheel odometer and inertial measurement unit (IMU) measurement is proposed, which can still be robust initialization in the scene without visual features. To solve the problem of low track accuracy caused by cumulative errors of VIO, the local and global positioning accuracy is improved by integrating wheel odometer data. The system is validated on a public data set.

Findings

The results show that our system performs well in visual challenge scenarios, can achieve robust initialization with high efficiency and improves the state estimation accuracy of wheeled robots.

Originality/value

To realize robust initialization of wheeled robot, wheel odometer measurement and vision-inertia fusion are initialized using MAP. Aiming at the visual challenge scene, a fusion method of wheel odometer and IMU measurement is proposed. To improve the accuracy of state estimation of wheeled robot, wheel encoder measurement and plane constraint information are added to local and global BA, so as to achieve refined scale estimation.

Abstract

Purpose

A tightly coupled global navigation satellite system (GNSS)-Vision-IMU-wheel odometer (GVIWO) system is proposed, which can realize robust positioning in extreme environments. The purpose of this study is to achieve adaptive initialization in complex environments, sensor anomaly detection and processing, and adaptive robust localization in extreme environments.

Design/methodology/approach

Adaptive initialization includes traditional dynamic and static initialization and extreme condition initialization. To deal with the unstable visual features in the state of excited motion, a method of wheel odometer assisted initialization is designed. According to the abnormal condition of the sensor, the anomaly detection and attenuation mechanism are designed to realize the accurate positioning of the sensor under abnormal condition.

Findings

Tight coupling optimization of GNSS signals, RGB+Depth Map cameras, inertial measurement units and wheel odometers ensures accurate positioning in both indoor and outdoor environments. Through open data sets and field validation experiments, the proposed tightly coupled system has strong adaptability, especially in extreme environments.

Originality/value

A new framework is proposed by integrating GNSS, visual, inertial measurement unit (IMU) and wheel odometer sensors to form an efficient positioning solution. An adaptive initialization method is proposed to enhance the robustness and real-time performance of the positioning system in complex and dynamic environments. A mechanism for detecting and attenuating sensor anomalies is designed, enabling quasideterministic positioning under sensor anomalies.

Abstract

Purpose: To investigate the key technologies facilitating the transition towards Industry 5.0 and analysing the contributions of Nvidia, a prominent leader in this field, to these technological advancements.

Significance of the study: Technology companies such as Nvidia play a critical role in this transformation through their innovative solutions. This study addresses the need to understand this evolving landscape and the significant impact of the Nvidia.

Methodology: This study is a qualitative approach that examines the existing literature and secondary case studies pertaining to Industry 5.0, and Nvidia. This study examines Nvidia’s high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs), the digital twin platform Omniverse, and the humanoid robot technology development platform, Isaac.

Findings: The next generation of GPUs with the Blackwell architecture is expected to further advance the development of large language models. The Nvidia Omniverse platform contributes significantly to the development of digital twins, a crucial technology for Industry 5.0. The Nvidia Isaac platform focuses on the development of humanoid robot technology, which is a key component of Industry 5.0. Utilizing realistic simulations with Isaac Sim, imitating human behavior with GR00T, and leveraging the high-performance processing power of Jetson Thor, the platform facilitates the creation of robots capable of safe and effective human–robot collaboration. Nvidia has emerged as a leader in the artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and gaming sectors because of its innovative and agile company culture.

Practical implications: Companies can leverage Nvidia’s technological solutions to optimize production processes and enhance both efficiency and sustainability. The human–machine collaboration emphasized by Industry 5.0 will necessitate the reshaping of workforce skillsets and operational approaches.

Abstract

Purpose

This research delves into the realm of Business Model Innovation (BMI), integrating it with the human-centric, sustainable, and resilient principles of Industry 5.0, proposing a new theoretical framework.

Design/methodology/approach

An abductive approach has been chosen to expand existing knowledge developing new ideas based on emerging phenomena. Data were gathered via semi-structured interviews with directors, managers and curators of public institutions in Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Spain encompassing Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAM). These data were subsequently subjected to thematic analysis.

Findings

The findings indicate that the main enablers for Business Model Innovation (BMI) in combination with Industry 5.0 encompassed stakeholder, customer and organizational engagement, collaborative environment, knowledge and innovation management, and sustainability. These drivers were effectively leveraged through three pivotal facilitators-inhibitors: technology, resources, and leadership.

Research limitations/implications

The principal constraints are rooted in the narrow contextual focus and the limited participants number. However, upcoming research efforts may broaden the horizons of this multifaceted and extensive investigation.

Originality/value

This study is groundbreaking as it fills a significant gap in the existing literature by integrating Business Model Innovation (BMI) with the Industry 5.0 paradigm, a novel approach that has not been explored previously. Additionally, the inclusion of GLAM institutions in this research adds a unique dimension, as they have been largely overlooked in both research domains.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to explore the potential impact of Industry 5.0 on businesses and management by integrating advanced technologies to develop smart cities (Society 5.0) and digital value chains, leading to Innovation 5.0 and triple bottom line sustainability. We propose an Organization Value Chain 5.0 model to describe the ecosystem interactions that leverage organizational innovative behavior through knowledge management.

Design/methodology/approach

Using a systematic literature review methodology, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of 968 Industry 5.0 articles, 297 Innovation 5.0 articles and 510 Society 5.0 articles from the WOS and Scopus databases. This analysis supports the development of our conceptual model.

Findings

This allowed us to propose the conceptual model for the new notion of Organization Value Chain 5.0 and its ecosystem components.

Originality/value

This study provides a detailed analysis of Industry 5.0, its technological elements and its relevance to creating Society 5.0, smart cities and digitalized value chains. It highlights the importance of stakeholder engagement and integration for effective digital industrial transformation.

Purpose

This research paper explores the transformative potential of Industry 5.0 for environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors within corporate settings. This study aims to elucidate the role of Industry 5.0 and its related technologies in influencing ESG factors, explore potential risks linked to ESG and present strategies for mitigation through Industry 5.0.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper is the literature review that introduces Industry 5.0 as a pivotal factor in implementing and mitigating ESG and its related risks. It outlines Industry 5.0's characteristics, driven by advanced technologies.

Findings

Literature reviews suggest that Industry 5.0 has the potential to significantly influence ESG factors within corporate settings. It can promote sustainability, enhance working conditions and offer operational advantages.

Practical implications

The practical implications of this research paper are twofold. First, it provides valuable insights to policymakers, organizations and regulatory bodies, guiding them in adapting their frameworks to embrace Industry 5.0. This adaptation is essential for achieving ESG goals and facilitating sustainable development. Second, it highlights the critical role of Industry 5.0 in mitigating ESG-related risks, offering a robust structure for sustainable development.

Originality/value

Abstract

Purpose

This study aimed to investigate the underlying boundary conditions under which boundary-spanning behaviour has a positive or negative effect on innovative behaviour.

Design/methodology/approach

A multi-wave and multi-source research design was adopted to collect data. Data were analysed using the multilevel structural equation modelling and latent moderated structural equation approach.

Findings

The results showed that boundary-spanning behaviour was significantly and negatively associated with employees' innovative behaviour via ego depletion when employees' intrinsic motivation or organisational support was low. Additionally, boundary-spanning behaviour was significantly and positively associated with employees' innovative behaviour via ego depletion when employees' intrinsic motivation or organisational support was high.

Originality/value

This research suggests that the consequences of boundary-spanning behaviour are conditional, explaining the contrasting conclusions in this regard.

Abstract

Purpose

The main aim of this paper was to investigate the possibility of obtaining green sustainable asphalt mixes by using two different recycled materials: reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and crumb rubber (CR) from scrap tyres. With the numerous environmental and social benefits brought about, the use of modified hot mix asphalt and warm mix asphalt (WMA) mixtures should be the focal point of the construction policies in developing countries. Adaptation of this solution would result in an economical and sustainable green pavement with high resilience and safer workspace area with less fumes and odours for asphalt workers.

Design/methodology/approach

Experimental work-testing one control mix and modified design mixes, which have been modified either by RAP, CR, a WMA additive or any combination of the latter three products.

Findings

From the different test results, it can be rightly concluded that the addition of CR and RAP do enhance the properties of asphalt mixes to a varying degree. While CR adds a certain flexibility to the mixes and reduces the voids present, the presence of RAP has an amplified effect on stability, especially when coupled with rubberised WMA.

Research limitations/implications

Marshall method still used as opposed to Superpave method in developing countries (Mauritius, Jordan here in).

Originality/value

A study for Tropical Island and its uniqueness to add to present knowledge.
