Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the antecedents of tourist citizenship behavior (TCB). It also investigates the role of digital halal literacy (DHL) and religiosity in enhancing TCB.
Design/methodology/approach
This quantitative research used survey with questionnaire as the data collection methods. The samples of this study were 400 tourists who visited tourist destinations in five cities/municipals in West Sumatra Indonesia. This research used partial least square structural equation model as the data analysis tools.
Findings
This study found that satisfaction, trust and DHL are significant antecedents of TCB. In addition, satisfaction had a direct impact on TCB and influenced TCB through trust as a mediator. This study also found that religiosity had a direct influence on DHL, satisfaction and trust.
Practical implications
The findings will provide insights to tourist destination managers as well as the government on how to motivate tourists to participate in the development of Halal tourism in Indonesia. The tourists should gain sufficient knowledge or literacy about Halal, and especially in the digital context. Therefore, this will lead to their satisfaction, trust and willingness to participate in tourism development such as providing assistance to other tourists in the destinations.
Originality/value
This research has identified a new variable, DHL, which has not been addressed previously. This research has extended social exchange theory by establishing a relationship between TCB and DHL that has also not been previously explored. In addition, this study has investigated several relationships between DHL, satisfaction, trust and TCB and has shed new insights in the context of Halal tourism. This study has also provided a more comprehensive model of the relationship between DHL, satisfaction, trust and citizenship behavior specifically in Halal tourism research.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore the role of the sense of community in shaping Muslim tourists’ experiences in both Islamic and non-Islamic destinations, using the experience quality-intention framework.
Design/methodology/approach
Data was collected from 420 Muslim tourists visiting Islamic destinations and 371 visiting non-Islamic destinations, all of whom were Indonesian inbound or outbound tourists. Partial Least Squares analysis was applied to evaluate the sense of community’s impact on factors influencing Muslim tourists’ experiences.
Findings
The analysis reveals that integrating the sense of community into the framework enhances understanding of the factors affecting Muslim tourists’ overall experiences, satisfaction and behavioural intentions across both destination types. Notably, the sense of community significantly shapes tourists’ holistic experiences, satisfaction and intentions, though it affects attraction experiences differently between Islamic and non-Islamic destinations.
Practical implications
From a managerial perspective, findings suggest that destination managers can enhance Muslim tourists’ experiences and promote positive behavioural intentions by fostering a sense of community, regardless of tourists’ backgrounds. This underscores the importance of leveraging community connections to enrich experiences and encourage favourable intentions in diverse destinations.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the existing literature by expanding the Experience Quality-Intention framework to include the sense of community, providing fresh insights into predicting tourist experiences and intentions across diverse destinations.

Abstract
Purpose
Service quality is an established research area in the services marketing literature and is an integral component in an Islamic economy driven by halal service sectors. Despite its importance and the rapidly changing service environment, there has yet to be a comprehensive study of service quality research across halal industries. The purpose of this study is to systematically review the existing literature on service quality in halal industries to provide a state-of-the-art understanding and identify opportunities in this research area.
Design/methodology/approach
Guided by the Scientific Procedures and Rationales for Systematic Literature Reviews (SPAR-4-SLR) protocol and the theories, contexts, characteristics and methods (TCCM) framework, this paper reviews 78 journal articles from the Web of Science database which features service quality as an underpinning theory in the context of halal economies.
Findings
Findings indicate that since the first study in 2010, service quality research in halal industries has concentrated on consumers in the Islamic finance sector who are served primarily by human service agents. Most studies are focused on halal industries in Muslim countries. Several papers adopt the SERVQUAL model while others develop more novel service quality scales for halal industries. Culture, technology and faith-related factors are key drivers of halal service quality. While few papers study the antecedents and moderators of service quality in halal industries, religiosity was found to be a significant variable in several papers reviewed.
Practical implications
The global Islamic economy will continue to be driven by halal services. This review will provide managers with an appreciation of service quality across different halal industries. Researchers can use the results of this review to guide future studies and contribute toward the development of this research area.
Originality/value
To the best of the author’s knowledge, this paper is the first to comprehensively map the antecedents, dimensions, outcomes and moderators of service quality across halal industries and provides managers with a strategic understanding of service quality across the halal economy. This study develops a conceptual model and concludes with a research agenda to advance halal service quality research.

Purpose
This study aims to test the empirical Islamic bank customer loyalty model with the perspective of mosques as customers.
Design/methodology/approach
The type of research used is quantitative to collect data from mosque customers; 93 questionnaires were analyzed using partial least square-structural equation modeling.
Findings
This research found a significant relationship between service quality and perceived value, service quality and brand image, perceived value and customer satisfaction, brand image and customer loyalty and customer satisfaction with brand image.
Research limitations/implications
First, this study only collects data from certain organizations or communities so that further research can develop the model by adding several other communities or organizations. Second, this research does not include several other important variables that influence customer loyalty, such as product innovation and company capabilities.
Originality/value
Islamic bank customer loyalty models have been widely explored from the perspective of individual customers only. This research offers new attributes that influence customer loyalty models in the context of organizations or communities, namely, mosques.

Digital games have not only surged in popularity but also have sparked a renaissance, catapulting virtual adventures into the realm of cultural phenomena. It has spilled over as countless individuals find themselves drawn to the tangible pieces of the worlds they love, mulling over the procurement of game merchandise and memorabilia. These items are more than mere collectibles; they are emblems of unwavering enthusiasm for game culture. This study employs the consumer culture theory (CCT) to investigate game players’ propensity to purchase merchandise products.
Design/methodology/approach
In this study, social media and online forums were used to collect samples from Taiwan, obtaining 311 valid responses. Partial least squares (PLS) was employed to analyze the research model.
Findings
The findings underscore the significance of loyalty as a critical factor affecting individuals’ ethnocentrism and cosmopolitanism attitudes, which also significantly impact the likelihood of players purchasing game merchandise products.
Originality/value
Based on CCT, this study explores game players’ willingness to purchase game merchandise. In Asia, transforming digital game content into peripheral products is a marketing strategy. This study holds practical and academic implications, contributing to the advancement of research in this field.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate how user-generated content (UGC) and firm-generated content (FGC) in social media affect attitudes toward halal tourism destinations, destination image and visit intentions among female Muslim (Muslimah) travelers. It also examines the role of travel habits as the moderating variable.
Design/methodology/approach
This study adopts the Theory of Interpersonal Behavior (TIB) and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to explore the motivation of Muslimah travelers to visit halal destinations. The survey was completed by 284 Indonesian Muslimah respondents who had visited halal tourism destinations in Indonesia. The SEM-PLS statistical technique was used to verify the associations between variables.
Findings
This study’s findings offer valuable insights for both theoretical understanding and practical applications. They suggest that both UGC and FGC significantly predict attitudes toward halal tourism and destination image, thereby influencing the visiting intentions of Muslimah travelers. Although UGC does not directly influence visiting intentions, it does play a significant role in shaping visiting intentions through its mediating effect on attitudes toward halal tourism destinations. In addition, the results indicate that habit positively moderates the relationship between attitudes toward halal tourism and visiting intentions.
Originality/value
This research contributes uniquely and significantly in two aspects. First, it merges the TIB with the TPB to elucidate the decision-making process of Muslimah travelers when selecting halal destinations. This integration illuminates new insights into the intentions of Muslimah tourists. Second, this study examines the respective influences of UGC and FGC on the visiting intentions of Muslimah travelers to halal tourism destinations. By comparing UGC and FGC, the research provides valuable insights into the decision-making processes of Muslimah tourists. Given Indonesia’s status as home to the largest Muslim population globally, this study offers a novel perspective on the traveling behavior of Muslimahs and practical recommendations for the Indonesian tourism sector in the establishment and promotion of Muslim-friendly destinations within the country.

Abstract
Purpose
The level of corruption in Nigeria is very high, and this has grossly reduced the desired confidence and trust in the nation’s political leaders and political institutions. It is even worse to the extent that many of its citizens, especially in the medical profession, lecturers and other specialties, are leaving the country altogether because they have already lost hope in the country called Nigeria. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate how political trust in Nigeria is affected by perceived corruption and to ascertain how social media use functions in this relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
Because this study is quantitative in nature, a positivist research philosophy is being used. A cross-sectional research design was used in this study. 14.1 million voters in north-central Nigeria are the study’s population, and a sample size of 385 was determined through an online sample size calculator with a 2% margin of error and a 95% confidence interval. The population was divided into smaller units for the study, and samples were selected from each unit using multistage sampling and simple random sampling techniques. An online self-administered questionnaire was used through the various social media’s platforms because of the nature of the study’s population to collect data. To examine the gathered data, descriptive and inferential statistics were applied. While inferential statistics were used to test the hypotheses through partial least squares structural equation modeling, descriptive statistics were used to analyze the respondents’ demographic data via a frequency table.
Findings
This study’s findings showed that social media use mediates the relationship between perceived corruption and political trust in Nigeria and that perceived corruption positively and significantly affects political trust in Nigeria.
Research limitations/implications
This study is not without its limitations. Therefore, the few limitations of the study range from the limited sample sample to the population of Nigeria. Also, using only the quantitative research method for the nature of this research is another major limitation of the study. And lastly, using one out of the six zones in Nigeria will make it difficult to generalize the findings of the study. However, it is then recommended that future researchers consider a larger population than the current study for proper coverage; the future study can also use both the quantitative and qualitative research methods.
Practical implications
The practical implications of understanding how social media shapes political trust among political leaders through the lens of perceived corruption in the Nigerian political system are dimensional and have implications for various stakeholders, including policymakers, political leaders, media professionals and the general public. First, for policymakers and political leaders, the findings offer insights into the importance of proactive and transparent communication on social media. Recognizing the impact of social media on shaping perceptions of corruption, political figures such as the office of the presidency, senators, governors and all other political office holders can leverage these platforms to engage people.
Originality/value
This study is innovative because it examines, through the lens of perceived corruption, how social media use influences political trust among political leaders. This approach provides a new look at the relationship between digital engagement and political attitudes.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis, assessing studies related to service quality and customer satisfaction in Islamic banking.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a bibliometric approach, this research draws from literature samples retrieved in April 2023 from the SCOPUS database. The sample encompasses 138 articles published between 1999 and 2023, adhering to specific selection criteria. Analytical tools such as R program, VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel were used to categorise the data into three primary domains: productivity, citation patterns and network analysis. These categories further include the identification of research flows and prospective areas for further investigation.
Findings
The results indicate a substantial surge in publications between 2011 and 2022 involving 372 authors. This study identifies the primary contributors in terms of countries, affiliations, publications, sources and researchers. Seven distinct clusters emerged from the 138 papers, encompassing customer attitude, comparison studies, digital banking, customer loyalty, customer trust, consumer determinants and service quality. Additionally, the study outlines a future research agenda, posing specific research questions.
Research limitations/implications
Recognising the limitations inherent in focusing solely on Scopus-indexed publications, future studies may benefit from incorporating various databases, such as the Web of Science, for a more expansive exploration of study units. A systematic review of articles on a specific topic could also enhance the comprehensiveness of the study.
Practical implications
This investigation empowers Islamic bank managers to devise targeted marketing plans, differentiating themselves from competitors. By implementing relevant improvements in operational and service processes, managers can enhance the customer experience, fostering a lasting competitive advantage. For academics, this study lays a robust foundation for further research, encouraging the development of a comprehensive conceptual model and empirical testing. The identification of current research gaps enables researchers to focus on areas that remain underexplored.
Originality/value
This study not only illuminates critical gaps in existing research but also proposes a research agenda to guide future researchers in remaining pertinent, particularly within the context of Islamic banking marketing.

Purpose
This study aims to examine the effect of Muslim consumers’ religiosity on their brand verdict regarding clothing brands, through the mediating role of decision-making style, brand status and brand attitude.
Design/methodology/approach
Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data collected from 200 clothing buyers in Mashhad, one of Iran’s religious cities.
Findings
The results indicate that intrapersonal religiosity, compared to interpersonal religiosity, has a more significant effect on Muslim consumers’ decision-making styles, and different decision-making styles of Muslim consumers affect their brand verdict through brand status and brand attitude.
Research limitations/implications
The research sample consists solely of respondents from the Islamic religion. Therefore, the impact of religiosity might differ among individuals from other religions, such as Christianity and Judaism.
Practical implications
This study’s findings are crucial for clothing brands, both national and international, that cater to the Muslim customers’ market. They need to consider the degree of religiosity when segmenting and targeting their market. This study shows that clothing brand marketers can best influence the brand verdict of Muslim consumers by targeting those with a brand-loyal decision-making style, focusing on their religious beliefs.
Originality/value
To achieve success in Iran’s Muslim market, marketers must consider their consumers’ religious beliefs and tailor their marketing plans accordingly. This study aims to investigate the impact of religiosity on consumer behavior toward brands in Iran’s Muslim market.

Abstract
Purpose
There are two goals for this study. Firstly, this study aims to understand the impact of various youth tourist motivations, such as Muslim amenities, Islamic product travel, attraction, perceived value and service quality, on the intention to visit Phuket. Secondly, this study aims to determine whether or not young people's perceptions of health risks influence their motivations and decisions to travel to Phuket in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used a quantitative methodology, using nonprobability convenience sampling to collect responses from 249 Indonesian youths who intended to visit Phuket after the COVID-19 pandemic. Hayes' (2018) SPSS PROCESS macro (Model 1) was used to test the research model.
Findings
The findings showed that the intention to travel was significantly affected by factors such as Muslim amenities, Islamic product travel, attraction, perceived value and service quality. Furthermore, the perceived health risk moderated three dimensions of Islamic product travel, perceived value and service quality on intention to visit.
Research limitations/implications
This study is limited to a sample of Indonesian youth tourists and the impacts of motivation (Muslim amenities, Islamic product travel, attractiveness, perceived value and service quality) and the moderating influence of health risk on the desire to visit Phuket.
Originality/value
This study sheds insight into the influence of several young tourists' motives on the intention to visit Phuket and the moderating role of perceived health risks. The findings provide essential insights for marketing strategies and the development of the international destination. Specifically, the study suggests developing products with Islamic attributes, emphasising the attraction factor and improving perceived values. The study also provides a model that demonstrates how religious values can affect an individual's decision-making process.
