Abstract
Purpose
This study provides a comprehensive overview of the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) applications on oral healthcare, focusing on clinical outcomes.
Design/methodology/approach
A systematic approach was used to gather articles from databases such as Scopus, ScienceDirect, PubMed, Web of Science and Google Scholar from 2010 to 2024. The selection criteria included articles published in English, focusing solely on clinical applications of AI in dentistry. Articles such as conference proceedings, editorial material and personal opinions were excluded. The articles were analyzed and visualized using Rayyan software, Microsoft Excel and VOSviewer.
Findings
Results indicate that 120 publications were authored by 58 scholars from 92 institutions across 29 countries, with a notable surge since 2018. This analysis showed the significant emphasis on the use of deep learning, demonstrating its high accuracy and performance in oral healthcare, often exceeding that of dentists. It also proved that even though AI is sometimes seen as an auxiliary tool, many studies revealed that AI has a performance near dental professionals’ levels. Findings concluded that the majority of studies indicate that AI is generating better clinical outcomes in oral healthcare.
Practical implications
This study provides dental professionals with insights on integrating AI for better diagnosis and treatment. Policymakers and healthcare institutions can use these findings to inform AI adoption and training strategies.
Originality/value
It presents novel and valuable findings that can benefit various stakeholders by shedding light on the present scenario and potential future paths of AI integration in oral healthcare, contributing to its overall advancement.

Using visual metaphors with physical artefacts can improve collaboration planning processes in strategic meetings. The study presented here aims to examine these processes.
Abstract
Purpose
Using visual metaphors with physical artefacts can improve collaboration planning processes in strategic meetings. The study presented here aims to examine these processes.
Design/methodology/approach
In this study, the participants used the LEGO® Serious Play® method in strategic planning meetings. The meetings were video recorded, and a thematic analysis method was applied to produce coded themes and narratives of collaboration planning based on the visual metaphors used in the meetings.
Findings
The study participants built LEGO artefacts representing three primary visual metaphors of collaboration focussing on landscapes, interaction processes and shared goals. The participants began with building landscapes by stacking and connecting LEGO base pieces as surfaces to build on, and to represent separate physical locations and more abstract business concepts. Alternatively, landscapes were built to centre activities around key business stakeholders. In terms of interaction processes, the participants lined up LEGO character pieces to explore communications between product developers, salespersons, customers and external partners. As for shared goals, tower-like high structures were created to represent open discussions, data sharing, prototyping and threats that should be avoided.
Originality/value
This study shows that using visual metaphors with physical artefacts provides an effective method for planning strategic collaboration areas, communications and future goals. Creating and communicating visual metaphors using physical artefacts enhances the creativity and participation of the meeting participants. Our future work will focus on studying the use of physical artefacts other than LEGO pieces in different group meetings contexts to better understand the role of visual metaphors.

Abstract
Purpose
This research aims to improve the competence of the task force of vocational higher education study programs in preparing a proposal for the Vocational Higher Education Strengthening Program-Private University (VHESP-PU) of the Independent Campus Program.
Design/methodology/approach
This type of research is R&D by applying the ADDIE model procedures. The research subjects were 30 lecturers assigned as study program task forces from 15 private universities in North Sumatra. The techniques to collect data are tests and questionnaires. Data analysis techniques use quantitative descriptive statistics.
Findings
The application of the ADDIE Model was proven effective in achieving training objectives based on the mean comparison analysis between the pre-test and post-test, showing an increase. The maximum score achieved by participants also increased by 9.52% from 84 to 92. Participants' evaluation of the implementation of the training was also dominant in the “Good” and “Very Good” categories. The training learning achievements that participants have obtained will help prepare higher-quality VHESP-PU proposals for each fiscal year to optimize training sustainability.
Research limitations/implications
The fact that only 15 universities participated in the training underscores the urgent need for ongoing training using the ADDIE model. This will ensure that more participants from private universities in North Sumatra can benefit from this practical approach to proposal preparation.
Practical implications
Using the ADDIE model to prepare VHESP-PU proposals is an innovative approach that can inspire similar applications in other fields. This research demonstrates that the ADDIE model, usually associated with instructional design, curriculum or learning materials, can also effectively prepare funding proposals using a competition scheme.
Originality/value
The use of the ADDIE model in preparing VHESP-PU proposals is an innovation because ADDIE is usually more related to developing instructional design, curriculum or learning materials rather than funding proposals using a competition scheme.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore the intricate and controversial sale of six hydroelectric dams in the Douro hydrographic basin by Energias de Portugal (EDP), a prominent Portuguese energy company, to a French Consortium – ENGIE. The transaction, completed at the end of 2020, has sparked significant debate and scrutiny within the Portuguese legal and fiscal spheres due to its corporate and budgetary manoeuvres. The crux of the controversy lies in the complex corporate restructuring strategies used by EDP and the acquiring consortium to execute this transaction. These strategies, aimed at achieving tax neutrality, effectively circumvented the traditional tax liabilities typically associated with large-scale asset transfers. The paper delves into the legal intricacies of this operation, scrutinising the application of taxes such as stamp duty, corporate income tax, value added tax and property transfer tax, which were, in theory, applicable to the transaction. Furthermore, this study examines the broader implications of the deal, particularly concerning the principle of tax neutrality in corporate restructurings, the enforcement of anti-abuse clauses and the economic substance over legal form doctrine.
Design/methodology/approach
This study is based on secondary data supported by publicly reported evidence.
Findings
This case study highlights the challenges in taxing corporate transactions in the modern financial landscape and reflects these corporate manoeuvres' societal and ethical considerations.
Originality/value
Through an analysis of legal frameworks, corporate strategies and tax policies, this paper provides a comprehensive understanding of the transaction and its implications, offering insights valuable to legal professionals, policymakers and scholars in corporate law, taxation and business ethics.
