Abstract
Purpose
Drawing on the reciprocity principle of social exchange theory situated within Service-dominant Logic, this study aims to examine how customers’ perception of knowledge sharing in co-production, their inherent scepticism and prosocial orientation relate to their willingness to co-create and provide feedback on services. The authors also explored the interplay between these factors to identify conditions in configurations comprising scepticism, which may help navigate its adverse effects.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors surveyed 556 online and offline mobile payment service users. They used a combination of partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to assess the relationships among variables, and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to identify configurations associated with feedback behaviour.
Findings
The study determined that customer perception of co-production knowledge sharing is positively associated with willingness to co-create and feedback behaviour. Additionally, prosocial orientation positively affects this relationship, while scepticism has an adverse effect. Willingness to co-create mediates the relationship between customer perception of co-production knowledge sharing and feedback behaviour. The fsQCA findings revealed configurations for potentially navigating doubts regarding feedback. To encourage valuable customer feedback, businesses may consider promoting a collaborative and supportive atmosphere, emphasising shared advantages or building trust even among hesitant and doubtful individuals.
Originality/value
This study uniquely examines how both prosocial tendencies and scepticism relate to customer feedback behaviour in co-creation by using a hybrid PLS-SEM/fsQCA approach to identify co-existing conditions in configurations comprising scepticism that may help navigate its adverse effects and leverage customer feedback for business improvement.

Abstract
In developing countries, rapid industrial growth frequently results in companies with high pollution levels, which in turn exhibit characteristics such as elevated emissions, increased energy consumption and overcapacity. In order to promote sustainable development among these heavily polluting firms, it is essential to implement a system of incentives and penalties that encourages environmentally responsible behaviour. China's environmental protection tax has replaced the previous pollution discharge fee (PDF) system. This tax aims to guide enterprises towards continuous adjustments and improvements in their production methods, increased investments in green technology, adoption of environmentally friendly production methods, reduced pollutant emissions and promotion of high-quality development. This chapter analyses how China's Environmental Protection Tax Law, enforced in 2018, affects the sustainable development capabilities of A-share listed companies in China. We utilise a difference-in-differences (DiD) model and measure total factor productivity (TFP) to quantify the impact of the tax law on these enterprises. TFP is a key indicator used to measure the effectiveness of resources utilised by enterprises in the production process. Our empirical analysis provides compelling evidence that the implementation of environmental protection taxes has significantly enhanced the TFP of heavily polluting enterprises. Importantly, the impact of these taxes is more pronounced for state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in comparison to their private counterparts in this sector. These findings offer valuable insights for policymakers in developing countries as they consider the design of environmental protection tax systems and supportive measures to promote sustainable development of companies with significant environmental impacts.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore the effect of service robots on employees’ customer service performance and service-oriented organizational citizenship behavior through psychological need satisfaction and role stress. Moreover, this paper examines the moderating role of service robots’ autonomy.
Design/methodology/approach
Data collected from managers and employees at hotels in South Korea were used to test the aforementioned association. In this paper, partial least squares structural equation modeling was performed to test the hypotheses.
Findings
Service robots enhance service employee performance through employees’ psychological need satisfaction, which can decrease service employee performance through role stress. As hypothesized, service robots’ autonomy is the moderator on these associations.
Practical implications
This study shows that using service robots does not always lead to positive employee performance. Therefore, managers should find ways to mitigate the role stress and enhance perceived robot autonomy.
Originality/value
This study offers a balanced perspective of the personal benefits and costs of the use of service robots by developing a dual-path model that unpacks the energizing and draining mechanisms underlying the double-edged effects of working with service robots on employees’ psychological strain and employees’ psychological needs.

Purpose
Considering the growing emphasis on sustainability, companies are developing green innovation strategies for creating new products and processes that reduce environmental effects. The impact of green innovation on firm performance is well established in the literature; however, the relationship between a firm’s adoption of green innovation and its social behaviour has not yet been explored. This study aimed to fill this gap by analysing the impact of green innovation on companies’ social behaviour, at both the overall and sub-dimensions levels.
Design/methodology/approach
This study was conducted on a sample of 191 companies worldwide between 2016 and 2019. Company data were extracted from the Joint Research Centre database established by the European Commission and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. In contrast, data on corporate social behaviour was taken from the LSEG Workspace database. We applied a panel regression using a fixed effects model to test the research hypotheses.
Findings
The results support the positive impact of green innovations on corporate social behaviour in the immediate and subsequent periods. However, the empirical results do not provide significant evidence for some dimensions of corporate social behaviour, such as respect for human rights and product responsibility.
Originality/value
The study’s novelty lies in its emphasis on how green innovation shapes corporate social behaviour and enhances stakeholder relationships. Green innovation is introduced as a strategic instrument for meeting social duties and increasing trust, loyalty and ethical engagement with important stakeholders.

Purpose
With the development of intelligent technology, deep learning has made significant progress and has been widely used in various fields. Deep learning is data-driven, and its training process requires a large amount of data to improve model performance. However, labeled data is expensive and not readily available.
Design/methodology/approach
To address the above problem, researchers have integrated semi-supervised and deep learning, using a limited number of labeled data and many unlabeled data to train models. In this paper, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) are analyzed as an entry point. Firstly, we discuss the current research on GANs in image super-resolution applications, including supervised, unsupervised, and semi-supervised learning approaches. Secondly, based on semi-supervised learning, different optimization methods are introduced as an example of image classification. Eventually, experimental comparisons and analyses of existing semi-supervised optimization methods based on GANs will be performed.
Findings
Following the analysis of the selected studies, we summarize the problems that existed during the research process and propose future research directions.
Originality/value
This paper reviews and analyzes research on generative adversarial networks for image super-resolution and classification from various learning approaches. The comparative analysis of experimental results on current semi-supervised GAN optimizations is performed to provide a reference for further research.

Purpose
Green technology, characterized by its environmentally friendly attributes and sustainable practices, has emerged as a crucial tool in harmonizing the economic and ecological benefits. However, the challenge lies in selecting the most effective strategies for acquiring green technology. This paper aims to explore how chemical enterprises choose green technology acquisition strategies across diverse scenarios.
Design/methodology/approach
Considering the influence of competition effects, spillover effects and their interactions on selecting green technology acquisition strategies, this paper develops three decision models (independent R&D, cooperative R&D and technology introduction). Drawing on the duopoly game theory as its theoretical framework, this paper delves into the examination of the economic and environmental benefits within distinct scenarios.
Findings
Cooperative R&D excels in promoting green technology R&D when spillover effects are strong, while independent R&D demonstrates superiority when spillover effects are weak. The threshold for the strength of spillover effects is related to competition effects. Additionally, cooperative R&D typically yields greater financial advantages than independent R&D and technology introduction. Moreover, the economic and environmental benefits may not be optimized simultaneously. Only enterprises that satisfy low competition and spillover effects as well as high competition and spillover effects, can achieve win-win economic and environmental benefits.
Originality/value
Although green technology R&D and introduction are alternative strategies, they have typically been considered separately in prior literature. This study attempts to incorporate green technology R&D and introduction into a strategic system to investigate the selection of green technology acquisition strategies, taking into account competition effects, spillover effects and their interactions.

Abstract
This systematic review aims to identify procedures, risks, growth opportunities, gaps, challenges, trends and potential of financial technology (fintech) in modern businesses. This study reviews existing literature and synthesises the related findings about fintech in modern businesses. To extract more valuable financial data and give clients better services, this review considers combining AI and IoT technologies used in modern business. To accomplish the review objectives, we analysed 61 Scopus-indexed articles from 2016 to 2023 using the meta-analysis methodology. We conducted content analysis in addition to thematic analysis to validate the literature standard. However, we have identified and discussed opportunities, challenges, trends and future developments in fintech. The findings of this study provide a theoretical foundation for information systems-based fintech research, including fintech concept formulation and growth. The findings of this review offer insights into the ways that emerging technologies are changing financial markets and shaping consumer behaviours. This includes studying things like blockchain technology, digital wallets and peer-to-peer lending platforms. This study contributes to the improvement of fintech services by identifying procedures for absorbing contemporary financial technologies, mitigating their risks and identifying the latest ones.

This paper aims to provide a reference for the development of digital transformation from the perspective of manufacturing process links.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper applies canonical correlation analysis based on digital technology patents in the key links of manufacturing industries (product design, procurement, product manufacturing, warehousing and transportation, and wholesale and retail) and the related indicators of economic benefits of regions in China.
Findings
(1) The degree of digitalization of manufacturing process links is significantly correlated with economic benefits. (2) The improvement of the degree of digitalization in the “product design” link, the “warehousing and transportation” link, the “product manufacturing” link and the “wholesale and retail” link has significant impacts on the economic benefits of manufacturing industry. (3) The digital degree of the “procurement” link has no obvious influence on the economic benefits of manufacturing industry.
Practical implications
The research results can provide reference for the formulation and implementation of micro policies. The strategy of improving the level of digital transformation of key links of manufacturing industry is put forward to better promote both the digital transformation of manufacturing industry and economic development.
Originality/value
This paper innovatively studies the relationship between digitalization of manufacturing process links and economic benefits. The findings can provide theoretical and empirical support for the digital transformation of China's manufacturing industry and high-quality development of economy.

Purpose
This study aims to examine the effect of supervisor developmental feedback on employee silence behaviour by developing a moderated mediation model. The model focuses on the mediating role of role breadth self-efficacy and high activated positive affect underpinning the relationship between supervisor developmental feedback and employee silence behaviour, and the moderating role of interdependent self-construal.
Design/methodology/approach
The two-wave survey was conducted among 265 employees. Structural equation modelling was conducted to test the mediation and moderation mediation hypotheses.
Findings
Results indicated that high activated positive affect mediated the negative relationship between supervisor developmental feedback and employee silence behaviour. The authors also found that interdependent self-construal moderated the relationship between supervisor developmental feedback and role breadth self-efficacy, as well as the indirect effect of supervisor developmental feedback on employee silence behaviour via role breadth self-efficacy.
Originality/value
This empirical study provides preliminary evidence of the mediating role of breadth self-efficacy and high activated positive affect in the negative relationship between supervisor developmental feedback and employee silence behaviour. The moderated mediation results further show that the mediation of role breadth self-efficacy between supervisor developmental feedback is contingent on individual interdependent self-construal, such that the mediation effect is significant among individuals with high interdependent self-construal, but the mediation effect of high activated positive effect is independent of individual interdependent self-construal. The findings further extend boundary conditions (interdependent self-construal) that may constrain the effect of supervisor developmental feedback on role breadth self-efficacy and high activated positive affect. The research makes considerable contributions to the cognitive-affective personality system theory by specifying the cognitive and affective mechanisms between supervisor developmental feedback and employee silence behaviour, as well as the boundary conditions.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to study the initial trust of the owner to the contractor, establish the initial trust mechanism, explore the factors that affect the initial trust of the owner to the contractor and analyze its influence mechanism. Based on this, it is easy for the owners and contractors to take targeted measures to improve the initial trust, which is conducive to the sustainable development of the project.
Design/methodology/approach
On the basis of reading a large amount of literature, this paper constructs the occurrence mechanism of the owner's initial trust to the contractor from the five factors of trust propensity, trust belief, trustee’s characteristics, institution-based trust, trust motivation and from the perspective of the owner using the structural equation model for questionnaire survey and empirical analysis.
Findings
The results of this paper show that the institution-based trust, the trustee’s characteristics and the trust belief of the trustor clearly have a positive effect on trust motivation, and the trustee’s characteristics have the most significant effect on the trust motivation. The influence of trust propensity on trust motivation was not significant.
Originality/value
This paper studies the occurrence mechanism of the owner's initial trust in the contractor, discusses its influencing factors and analyzes the influence of these factors on the initial trust, which enriches the theoretical system of initial trust research. The results of this study can help owners and contractors to develop targeted measures to build good initial trust.
