Abstract
Purpose
Prior research has demonstrated that temporal leadership brings benefits, whereas scholars know little about its potential drawbacks. This study aims to explore the positive and negative effects of temporal leadership.
Design/methodology/approach
A three-wave, multi-source survey was conducted to examine the theoretical model and test hypotheses. Multi-level analysis was performed using Mplus 7.4 and the R package for Monte Carlo simulations.
Findings
This study reveals that temporal leadership both decreases employee proactive behavior through emotional exhaustion and increases it through job absorption. Shared temporal cognitions buffer the effect of temporal leadership on emotional exhaustion and its indirect effect on proactive behavior through emotional exhaustion. Conversely, shared temporal cognitions strengthen the effect of temporal leadership on job absorption and its indirect effect on proactive behavior through job absorption.
Practical implications
Our findings show that temporal leadership has costs and benefits. Thus, it is essential to manage temporal leadership behavior.
Originality/value
Our research provides new insight into understanding the costs and benefits of temporal leadership.

Purpose
Existing research has generally viewed that temporal leadership has positive impacts on employees but ignores its potential drawbacks. This study aims to develop a model to explore its possible negative impacts on employees, drawing upon social information processing theory.
Design/methodology/approach
This study conducts a multi-wave and multisource survey to test the model, and the authors test the hypotheses with multi-level analysis using Mplus 7.4 and R package for Monte Carlo.
Findings
Results suggest that temporal leadership induces employee work alienation, thus leading to employee silence. Furthermore, shared temporal cognitions moderate both the relationship between temporal leadership and work alienation and the indirect effect of temporal leadership on employee silence via work alienation.
Originality/value
Taken together, this study reveals the potential dark side of temporal leadership and provides a more comprehensive and dialectical research perspective for temporal leadership literature.

Abstract
Purpose
An increasing number of immersive technologies have been adopted in museum tourism in response to shifting consumer habits in the digital era. In contrast, the authenticity experience of museum tourists relies on genuine relics, the environment and activities, which are ancient or traditional. This raises the question of whether tourists can perceive authenticity in immersive technology-based museum tourism. To address this question, this study aims to explore the impact of virtual reality (VR) attributes on tourists’ presence, tourism authenticity and subsequent behavioral intentions in virtual museums.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected via scenario-based surveys of participants who had taken virtual museum tours based on VR. A total of 174 effective questionnaires were collected for exploratory factor analysis via SPSS 25. Afterward, 597 questionnaires were obtained for confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis via Mplus 7.4.
Findings
A conceptual model of how VR attributes influence presence, authenticity and visit intention was developed. There is a chain intermediary between presence and visit intentions, from original authenticity to interactive authenticity and then to emotional authenticity. Technology readiness and museum familiarity moderate some relationships between VR attributes and presence.
Practical implications
The findings can guide museums in improving the use of VR. For example, managers can improve the quality of virtual systems and adopt various interactive forms to enhance tourists’ participation experiences.
Originality/value
These research findings contribute to the research area of immersive technology adoption, enhance the understanding of tourism authenticity in the new context of technology application and extend the presence-emotion-intention theory.

The contemporary view of museums differs markedly from the traditional perception of scattered institutions, with urbanization and globalization reshaping their definitions and functions. This chapter explores the evolving roles of museums, particularly within the context of smart city development, with a focus on China. The chapter employs a structured methodology, first examining the positive aspects of museums, including their role in safeguarding natural heritage, promoting social responsibility, and facilitating education. Conversely, it scrutinizes the negative influences on museums, such as political and colonial interventions that impact pedagogical practices. A significant aspect of the discussion is the intersection of museum education with smart and adult education, heralding a renaissance in museum learning. A case study on the Danxiashan Geo-Museum illustrates the integration of cultural and heritage institutions into smart city initiatives, serving as a prototype for future endeavors. The chapter underscores the importance of incorporating smart and adult education into museum initiatives, along with smart innovation projects involving local museums and heritage sites. The implications extend to next-generation smart cities, offering insights into their societal, economic, and developmental impacts in the Gulf Region. Museum education emerges as a crucial yet understudied component within the framework of smart cities and education, providing a lens for reimagining future educational paradigms. By embracing the resurgence of museum education and integrating socio-cultural changes, including the rise of heritage education, smart cities can enhance their educational and societal contributions nationally and globally.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to evaluate the thermal performance of sodium alginate (SA) aerogel attached to nano SiO2 and its radiative cooling effect on firefighting clothing without environmental pollution.
Design/methodology/approach
SA/SiO2 aerogel with refractory heat insulation and enhanced radiative cooling performance was fabricated by freeze-drying method, which can be used in firefighting clothing. The microstructure, chemical composition, thermal stability, and thermal emissivity were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analyzer and infrared emissivity measurement instrument. The radiative cooling effect of aerogel was studied using thermal infrared imager and thermocouple.
Findings
When the addition of SiO2 is 25% of SA, the prepared aerogel has excellent heat insulation and a high radiative cooling effect. Under a clear sky, the temperature of SA/SiO2 aerogel is 9.4°C lower than that of pure SA aerogel and 22.1°C lower than that of the simulated environment. In addition, aerogel has more exceptional heat insulation effect than other common fabrics in the heat insulation performance test.
Research limitations/implications
SA/SiO2 aerogel has passive radiative cooling function, which can efficaciously economize global energy, and it is paramount to environment-friendly cooling.
Practical implications
This method could pave the way for high-performance cooling materials designed for firefighting clothing to keep maintain the wearing comfort of firefighters.
Originality/value
SA/SiO2 aerogel used in firefighting clothing can release heat to the low-temperature outer space in the form of thermal radiation to achieve its own cooling purpose, without additional energy supply.

Purpose: In this chapter of this book, the role and contributions of blockchain in Industry 5.0 are examined. Especially, the advantages offered by blockchain in mass customization, hyper-personalization, human–robot collaboration and cognitive systems, which constitute the main theme of Industry 5.0, are mentioned.
Need for the study: With developing technology, revolutions are taking place in the industry. While these revolutions are occurring, various technologies serve as enablers. In this chapter, one of these technologies, blockchain, is examined.
Methodology: Industrial revolutions represent important technological developments for societies. In this chapter, Industry 5.0, one of these revolutions, is discussed. In the first section, the main themes of Industry 5.0 were examined. Afterward, the transition from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0 was analyzed. Then, the opportunities offered by Industry 5.0 were reviewed. Subsequently, the contributions of blockchain to Industry 5.0 were examined. Finally, the role of blockchain in Industry 5.0 is summarized.
Findings: The main themes of Industry 5.0 enable customized processes and smart production approaches. Blockchain makes significant contributions to these processes with its security and traceability features. In addition, smart contracts can increase transparency, traceability and security among stakeholders in the production process with their distributed ledger structure and immutability features. In blockchain networks, each transaction is carried out and approved by consensus. This consensus, provided by smart contracts, also secures transactions by reducing administrative costs. With these contributions, blockchain meets the security and smart management requirements of Industry 5.0.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to systematically review the resilience literature to integrate the fragmented views and provide a more comprehensive understanding. This study aims to fill the gaps in the literature by discussing scientific contributions and highlighting the main issues in previous research findings regarding the definitions, dimensions and concepts that make up organizational resilience. This research highlights organizational resilience from a capabilities perspective.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper uses the systematic literature review method by searching all previous studies studying organizational resilience from 2014 to 2023. In total, there are 28 articles reviewed from the Scopus database.
Findings
This study found that resilience is a complex concept and has many definitions and dimensions. This study also conceptualizes organizational capability with a pyramid, which illustrates the basic framework of the six stages of the resilience process and hierarchically forms organizational resilience.
Research limitations/implications
First, the keyword search strings on the repository database are currently limited to a few keywords. Need to broaden the range of keywords so as to produce a more comprehensive review. Second, the exclusion of books, book chapters and conference papers limits research findings and results. These sources are likely to enrich resilience development from various perspectives. Even though Scopus is the largest repository database, the research findings are not yet fully generalizable. Future researchers can add data from WoS, Ebsco or other databases. Literature obtained from various databases that can provide broader results.
Practical implications
The practical implications of this study are to provide a basis for managers in making decisions for organizational sustainability. Managers can consider each stage in the resilience capability pyramid as a reference for making strategic plans and relational orientation toward organizational members.
Originality/value
This research provides a hierarchical perspective on organizational resilience capabilities. For academics and practitioners, this study provides a critical and comprehensive systematization of the limited academic literature on resilience. This study also offers opportunities for further research to overcome the limitations of empirical testing of resilience capability construction using various theories and methodologies.

Encouraged by a variety of stakeholders and the benefits that could derive from corporate social responsibility (CSR), multinational corporations (MNCs) are increasingly concerned with limiting the social and environmental costs of their operations. Yet, they are often accused of not walking the talk on sustainability. Since offshoring and outsourcing became mainstream in international business, concerns have particularly emerged around MNCs’ ability to implement credible and efficient sustainability strategies along increasingly complex and dispersed global supply chains. Evidence on the effectiveness of private initiatives to socially and environmentally upgrade supplier practices remains mixed, and the different insights from the literature, siloed. This work aims to provide a survey of the literature documenting the challenges MNCs face trying to implement more sustainable policies in supplier networks located in developing countries, where sustainability standards and certifications are likely to be poorly enforced. We integrate insights from multiple disciplines, provide an overview of the existing body of research on the topic, and propose an analysis structured around three recurring themes: the policy tools available to MNCs and their limitations, the obstacles to suppliers’ compliance, and the different governance mechanisms available to MNCs to shape their suppliers’ practices. By providing a comprehensive picture of CSR policy implementation challenges, we contribute to practice and highlight potential avenues for future research.

Abstract
Purpose
Aluminum foam-filled thin-walled unit structures have received much attention for their excellent energy absorption properties. To improve the energy absorption effect of car energy absorption box under axial compression, this paper optimizes the fiber lay-up sequence, fiber angle and aluminum foam density of aluminum foam filled carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) thin-walled square tubes.
Design/methodology/approach
Design of sample points required to construct the proxy model using design of experiments (DOE) method, and the data sample points of different models are obtained through Abaqus simulation and test. A double high-precision proxy model with the maximum specific energy absorption (SEA) and the minimum initial peak crash force (PCF) as the evaluation index is constructed based on the response surface function method. The NSGA-II multi-objective genetic algorithm was used to optimize the design parameters and obtain the optimal solution for the Pareto front, and the results were verified by using the multi-objective optimization toolbox in design-expert.
Findings
The results show that the optimal solution to the multi-objective optimization problem with the inclusion of the lay-up sequence is ρ = 0.5g/cm3 for a fiber lay-up angle varying in the range ±15–90° and an aluminum foam density varying in the range 0.2g/cm3-0.5g/cm3, with a lay-up method of [±87°/±16°/±15°/±89°]. The two optimization methods correspond to SEA and PCF errors of 2.109% and 4.1828%, respectively. The optimized SEA value is 18.2 J/g and the PCF value is 18,230 N. The optimized design reduces the peak impact force and increases the specific energy absorption, which improves the energy absorption effect of thin-walled energy-absorbing boxes for automobiles.
Originality/value
In this paper, the impact resistance of CFRP thin-walled square tubes filled with aluminum foam is optimized. Based on numerical simulations and experiments to obtain the sample point data for constructing the dual-agent model, we investigate the effect of filling with different densities of aluminum foam under the simultaneous change of fiber lay-up angle and order on its mechanical properties in this process, and carry out the multi-objective optimization design with NSGA-II algorithm.
