In this paper, the author advocates recognizing, developing, and promoting “critical interactionism” as a legitimate and pragmatically useful scholarly project. The author argues that critical interactionism includes different interactionist traditions, critical approaches, methodological styles, and sensitizing concepts – as long as they tell us something about how power and inequality operate. I review two fundamental elements of this project that constitute its past and likely future: (1) theoretical interventions that excavate critical insights, diversify founders, integrate critical theories, and promote interactionism's usefulness for critical inquiry and (2) empirically grounded conceptual interventions that shed light on generic processes of inequality reproduction. Although the larger discipline of sociology continues to marginalize interactionism yet selectively adopt its principles, critical interactionism has the potential to break through what David Maines called the fault line of consciousness. The promise of critical interactionism is that it can simultaneously make interactionism more relevant to our discipline and make our discipline more relevant to the social world.

With the global market for advanced technology-driven customer service set to soar, understanding the complicated relationship between advanced technology and customer purchase behaviour is paramount. While prior research has touched upon the impact of technology on purchase processes in some aspects, this study investigates the specific features of advanced technology that shape customer purchase intention in greater depth. By investigating when and under what conditions customers choose advanced technology-based purchases, this research sheds light on the evolving landscape of consumer decision-making and it seeks to quantify the transformative power of advanced technology in driving customer purchase intentions.

Organizational sociology and organization studies have a long history together, while also sharing a proclivity to self-diagnose crises. Instead of taking these assessments at face value, this paper treats them as an object of study, asking what conditions have fueled them. In the case of organizational sociology, there are indications of a connection between rising levels of discontent and community building: self-identified organizational sociologists have progressively withdrawn from general debates in the discipline and turned their attention to organization studies, which, they suspect, has seen dramatic levels of growth at their expense. Organization studies, on the other hand, are still haunted by “a Faustian bargain”: leaning heavily on the authority of the social sciences, business school faculty were able to facilitate the emergence of a scholarly field of practice dedicated to the study of organizations, which they control. However, in doing so, they also set organization studies on a path of continued dependence on knowledge produced elsewhere: notably, by university disciplines such as sociology.

The Metaverse, an emergent Web 3.0 platform, offers users immersive virtual reality experiences. This study employs a case study approach to explore the concept of sustainability within the Metaverse. It examines the environmental, social, and economic implications of virtual interactions and the role of sustainable technologies in shaping user behavior and virtual economies. Through selected case studies, the research provides insights into the potential and challenges of integrating sustainable practices in the Metaverse, with implications for stakeholders ranging from policymakers to end-users.

This chapter focuses on the conservative Heritage Foundation's “Project 2025” and especially its comprehensive Mandate for Leadership, which provides a detailed plan for fundamental policy and administrative changes to be instituted in a Trump second term. It advocates an unparalleled concentration of executive power, elimination of the independence of the civil service and Department of Justice from the office of the president, and institution of permanent dominance of Trumpian conservatism. The specific focus is on the Mandate's proposed antienvironmental policies, which are weaved throughout the document and are designed to roll back sweepingly previous climate-change and environmental protection policies. Stressing maximal usage, production, and export of fossil fuel, the Trumpian “energy dominance agenda” is in polar contradiction to climate science policy aimed at decarbonizing the economy and society and averting catastrophic climate change and a “Hothouse Earth.” The Mandate's postfactual discourse combined with its advocacy of an all-powerful president and conspiratorial vision of the “woke” left as public enemy has definite protofascist overtones.

The purpose of this paper is to examine how a clinical interview protocol with failure artifact scenarios can capture changes in high school students’ explanations of troubleshooting processes in physical computing activities. The authors focus on physical computing, as finding and fixing hardware and software bugs is a highly contextual practice that involves multiple interconnected domains and skills.

This paper developed and piloted a “failure artifact scenarios” clinical interview protocol. Youth were presented with buggy physical computing projects over video calls and asked for suggestions on how to fix them without having access to the actual project or its code. Authors applied this clinical interview protocol before and after an eight-week-long physical computing (more specifically, electronic textiles) unit. They analyzed matching pre- and post-interviews from 18 students at four different schools.

The findings demonstrate how the protocol can capture change in students’ thinking about troubleshooting by eliciting students’ explanations of specificity of domain knowledge of problems, multimodality of physical computing, iterative testing of failure artifact scenarios and concreteness of troubleshooting and problem-solving processes.

Beyond tests and surveys used to assess debugging, which traditionally focus on correctness or student beliefs, the “failure artifact scenarios” clinical interview protocol reveals student troubleshooting-related thinking processes when encountering buggy projects. As an assessment tool, it may be useful to evaluate the change and development of students’ abilities over time.

Introduction: The importance of green economy policies for sustainable development is widely recognized, yet there is a notable gap in literature regarding their application in regions like Karabakh, Azerbaijan. This study addresses this gap by exploring the feasibility of transferring Swiss green economy policies to Karabakh, considering its socio-economic context and aspirations.

Purpose: This study assesses the feasibility and efficacy of applying Switzerland’s green economy policies to Karabakh. By evaluating Switzerland’s innovation potential and Azerbaijan’s renewable energy landscape, it aims to determine the compatibility and potential benefits of implementing Swiss policies in Karabakh.

Methodology: Utilizing a multifaceted approach, the study first analyzes Switzerland’s innovation potential using data from the Global Innovation Index. It then employs a mathematical model to assess the shares of renewable energy sources in Karabakh’s energy supply from 2020 to 2022, providing insights into its renewable energy landscape and alignment with Swiss policies.

Findings: The study uncovers substantial potential for renewable energy growth in Karabakh, notably in wind and solar power. Hydropower maintains its reliability in energy supply, while wind and solar sources gain prominence. Insights from Switzerland’s Innovation Index highlight the relevance of Swiss green economy policies for Karabakh’s context.

Practical implications: Emulating Switzerland’s green economy model can drive sustainable development in Karabakh. Collaboration among Azerbaijan, Switzerland, and the private sector is pivotal for setting global sustainable development goals and enacting policy reforms. Switzerland’s dedication to a circular economy provides a compelling framework for revitalizing the Karabakh region.

Introduction: With a rapid increase in the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning, new Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies are now playing a vital role in evolving green human resource management practices in the sustainable development of organizations. A thorough analysis of the part of AI technologies in Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) is still an ongoing process.

Purpose: This chapter/study aims to provide an overview of the changing paradigm of human resource management practices into Green Human Resource Management Practices and the role of Artificial Intelligence interventions in various aspects of talent management, talent acquisition, and talent retention.

Design/methodology/approach: This study is based on the systemic review of 37 research studies and reports on human resource management practices, green human resource management, artificial intelligence, and talent management strategies.

Findings: The findings below show a change in human resource management practices encouraging new technologies, software solutions, and artificial intelligence. Green management practices are overtaking the traditional mindsets and work environment. This transformation has synergized the adoption of artificial intelligence and G-HRM practices, encouraging innovative and positive work behaviors.

Originality/value: The originality of this study lies in fulfilling the existing gap in the studies of the role of artificial intelligence and its effects on green human resource management. Its value counts in showing the aspects of innovation in HRM with sustainability and advanced technology.
