Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to identify seminal research works on distance and online learning that have had significant impact on the domain.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors used the SCOPUS database for this study as the data source, and a well-defined search strategy retrieved the items for analysis. First, the authors identified the h-index (n = 207) of the discipline to determine the threshold for listing the top works. The authors critically analysed these classic publications using several bibliometric parameters to present the analysis. To understand the primary focus of the classic research works, the authors also carried out a keyword cluster analysis using VOSviewer.
Findings
While the USA produced maximum classic research, authors from Canada have maximum research visibility in terms of citations (n = 474.06). Canada also received the highest value of RCI (1.30), followed by Taiwan and Australia. The majority of the classics are published in 67 scientific journals. Of these, Computers and Education published the highest number with a quarter of the total citations (n = 19,403). Although e-learning was the nucleus of the research theme, the authors observed that students, learning systems, online learning, blended learning, learning management systems and computer-aided instructions dominated their influence in the research cluster.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first of its kind work in the field of distance and online learning. Findings of this study would be useful to faculty, researchers and students in the discipline to focus on the seminal works and understand their implications better in the context of the growing significance of the discipline.

Purpose
The purpose of the study was to develop and validate a scale for measuring epistemic trust in open educational resources (OERs).
Design/methodology/approach
A mixed methods approach was employed, using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The scale development involved several stages, including various iterations of exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA).
Findings
The study resulted in a valid and reliable nine-factor scale for measuring epistemic trust in OERs. These factors are reliability and credibility of information, source competence and expertise, goodwill and intentions of the source, transparency and openness, consistency and stability, accessibility and usability, peer and social validation, engagement and interaction and ethical and moral integrity. The CFA confirmed the nine-factor structure and showed good model fit. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients for the dimensions ranged from 0.668 to 0.823, indicating acceptable to excellent internal consistency. Extracted (AVE) value for each factor indicates the strong convergent validity of the scale.
Research limitations/implications
The study’s focus is on measuring epistemic trust of university students in OERs.
Practical implications
By providing a reliable and valid instrument to measure epistemic trust in OERs, the study provides a practical approach for OER creation, curation and use.
Social implications
The study proposes a framework for combating misinformation by providing a scale to assess the epistemic trust in OERs.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to develop a comprehensive scale specifically designed to measure epistemic trust in OERs.

Abstract
Purpose
This study investigates the intricate dynamics of the hidden curriculum and its influence on student achievement in teacher education programs. Specifically, the study examines the mediating role of professional and constitutional values and the moderating role of sex in this relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 282 bachelor of education fourth semester students (151 female and 131 male) participated in the study. General linear modeling in Jamovi 2.4.4 was utilized to analyze the data. The general linear model (GLM) mediation model was used to measure the mediation effects of the hidden curriculum via professional value and constitutional value on student achievement. Sex was accepted as a dichotomous moderator in the model.
Findings
Hidden curriculum had positive significant direct and total effect on student achievement. The mediation of constitutional values between hidden curriculum and student achievement was found to be significant and negative. Professional value was not found to be a significant mediator. The interaction between sex and constitutional value was significant and positive. Apart from this sex moderated professional and constitutional values differentially. Constitutional and professional values had significant direct component effects on student achievement. The findings contribute to the discourse of hidden curriculum by providing insights into the interplay of sex, professional values, constitutional values and student achievement.
Practical implications
The study has implications for educational policies and curriculum design, urging stakeholders to pay attention to the implicit messages communicated by the curriculum. Professional and constitutional values influence the hidden curriculum and achievement. Therefore, teachers should be equipped with an understanding of these values to manage the hidden curriculum in their classrooms. The study also highlights the gendered educational experiences and the necessity of implementing gender-sensitive policies and practices in schools and classrooms.
Originality/value
This study provides unique insights into the complex relationship between the hidden curriculum and student achievement in the context of a teacher education program in India. The findings highlight the importance of addressing the hidden curriculum in educational settings and emphasize the need for gender-sensitive policies and practices.

For a sustainable and eco-friendly supply chain, the objective is to reduce the harmful effects on the environment caused by a variety of factors, such as supply chain revenue and profit concerns, water and energy use and waste production. The primary barrier to more sustainable supply chains is cost, and smaller enterprises in particular find it difficult to pay for the upfront expenses. The prices are utmost important in freight forwarding services. The chapter aims to identify the different variables that affect the spot freight rate, considering a small number of Indian logistics firms, and to determine the spot freight rate factors that affects freight rates and supply chain management's sustainability. Using a structured questionnaire, the information was gathered from 308 logistics service companies. Descriptive statistics was used and factor analysis using principal component analysis (PCA) are the tools and methodologies employed for the analysis of the data gathered. The software tool utilized for the data analysis is SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) 17.0. SPSS helps to obtain clear and precise results. From the analysis, it was deduced that there are five factors of spot freight rate which was done by using factor analysis using PCA, which affects the volatility explaining a total of 67.75% variation in the data set. The study shows that these identified factors impact the freight rate and also the sustainability in management of supply chain practices in India.

This paper tries to retrospect the mounting application of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) in the human resource management area. The document applies bibliometric analysis and uses relational techniques to explore dimensions of documents in the field. The results highlight publication trends, most impactful authors, countries and institutes in the research area. The science mapping along with co-citation and bibliometric coupling analysis revealed major developments in the field. The thematic mapping and trend analysis highlighted the past and emerging trends towards significant and impactful research in the areas of robotics, big data, AI and data analytics. This paper sets the base for future researchers by coordinating and combining various past researches to help in understanding the evolution of ML and AI in human resource management and expansion of knowledgebase.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the role of institutional investors (using proxy voting and voice) in influencing the decisions and governance landscape of their investee firms.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors use exploratory research design due to the underdevelopment of the problem phenomena, especially in the context of emerging economies. Using asset management companies (AMC) as a proxy for institutional investors, the authors use a multiple case study design. This design was relevant in the setting as it assured triangulation by studying the same phenomenon across firms with distinct characteristics. The authors sourced the data for the multiple cases from primary sources (such as semi-structured interviews) and secondary sources (such as official Webpages and social media pages of AMC and examination of archival documents). Finally, the authors used qualitative content analysis to analyse the data.
Findings
The findings suggest that shareholder activism by institutional investors has grown in India over the period, particularly in matters related to corporate governance, related party transactions, remuneration and compensation. These AMC in India use proxy voting services for advising on voting resolutions in their investee companies. However, voting by AMC does not generally affect resolution results. This is particularly true in the presence of a high concentration of promoter holdings in investee companies.
Originality/value
The study is a novel attempt in an emerging market context to explore the role of institutional investors in influencing firm decisions and improving the governance landscape of the company using proxy voting and voice. This is especially important as the institutional framework in emerging markets is not as strong as in developed markets.

Abstract
Purpose
Amid the growing investors’ interest in environment, social and governance (ESG) investing, the present study aims to examine the investors’ reactions to the reconstitutions of the prominent Indian sustainability index.
Design/methodology/approach
Incorporating both the announcement day (AD) and the effective change day (CD), the market model of event study methodology has been employed to measure the investors’ reactions in terms of abnormal stock returns in both the short and long term. Inclusions in and exclusions from the S&P BSE 100 ESG index are used as an indicator of sustainability.
Findings
Surprisingly, our empirical analysis suggests that stock markets do not reward the inclusion of a company in the sustainability index. However, unexpectedly, exclusions are accompanied by significantly positive cumulative average abnormal returns, observed during both the temporary price impact window and the total permanent price effect window. These atypical findings could be linked to the particular clientele composition of included and excluded companies.
Practical implications
The findings of this study carry significant implications for corporate decision-makers, investors and policymakers involved in sustainability and ESG practices within the Indian market. By shedding light on the market’s response to sustainability index reconstitutions, this research can aid in better managing associated opportunities and risks.
Originality/value
While previous research has predominantly focused on American and European markets, our study extends the analysis to understand how Indian investors respond to news of inclusions and exclusions from the BSE 100 ESG index. By offering insights into the price effects associated with the revisions in the S&P BSE 100 ESG index list, the study contributes to the advancement of literature.
