Abstract

Purpose

This paper investigates the mediating role of employee awareness of artificial intelligence (AI) in the relationship between technological turbulence and knowledge hiding, with a focus on the moderating impact of change leadership.

Design/methodology/approach

The survey study adopted a quantitative approach to propose and test a model based on predictors of knowledge hidings. The survey approach received 320 respondent firms in the hotel management sector. The structural and measurement model was calculated using SmartPLS.

Findings

Employee AI awareness mediates the relationship between technological turbulence and knowledge hiding. Change leadership significantly moderates this relationship, reducing knowledge hiding by promoting innovative discussions and collaboration. High employee AI awareness can lead to knowledge hiding due to perceived threats to job security, but effective leadership mitigates this by fostering a collaborative environment.

Originality/value

The study highlights the importance of effective leadership in reducing knowledge hiding and emphasizes the need for a collaborative environment where employees view external partnerships as opportunities for learning and acquiring AI knowledge.

Abstract

Purpose

The concept of online shopping has been in vogue for the past two decades and is on the rise. Even developing countries like Pakistan are using electronic platforms to buy and sell goods and services, and the trend has been increasing ever since the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing on the expectancy-disconfirmation theory, this study aims to test the e-service quality (E-SQ) and e-customer satisfaction (ECS) linkage with the mediating roles of functional values (FVs) and hedonic values (HVs).

Design/methodology/approach

The data have been collected from 298 customers of AliExpress and Daraz e-commerce platforms and analyzed using covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM).

Findings

The results of the study showed a significant positive relationship between E-SQ and ECS and indirect linkage through FVs and HVs have also been established.

Practical implications

E-commerce platforms, particularly in Pakistan, should place a strong emphasis on FVs by providing accurate product details, user-friendly navigation, transparent pricing and streamlined transactions. Customers' trust and confidence will increase if they have a smooth and effective online purchasing experience. Customer satisfaction may be influenced by regular platform functionality and usability changes.

Originality/value

The use of functional and HVs is considered to be a novel factor in testing the relationship between E-SQ and ECS.

Abstract

Purpose

This study explores the factors that contribute to fan loyalty for a losing sports team, with a specific focus on the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League. The research aims to uncover the motives that influence fans’ unwavering support for a team that consistently underperforms.

Design/methodology/approach

A qualitative research design was utilized, involving semi-structured interviews with a diverse sample of Karachi Kings fans. Data were analyzed using grounded theory principles to uncover key themes. This approach allowed for an in-depth understanding of the underlying psychological and sociocultural factors. Grounded theory was chosen to systematically generate insights from data, particularly because fan loyalty in current contexts remains underexplored.

Findings

The research identified five main themes that influence fan loyalty: identity integration, emotional attachment, cognitive coherence, behavioral consistency and social connectivity. Fans exhibited a strong psychological connection to the Karachi Kings, fueled by regional pride, shared experiences and a sense of community. The findings emphasize the importance of creating a strong fan community and nurturing emotional bonds through consistent engagement and shared experiences.

Originality/value

This study demonstrated how psychological and sociocultural factors combine to sustain support for a losing team. It broadens the understanding of sports fandom by emphasizing that fan loyalty extends beyond a team’s success or failure, being deeply rooted in identity, emotions and social connections. This research offers a nuanced view of fan behavior in a non-Western context and provides valuable insights for developing marketing strategies and fostering community engagement in sports management.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to provide a comprehensive, textometric analysis of the evolving Quality 4.0 (Q4.0) research, identifying key themes, emerging trends and critical research gaps in the field.

Design/methodology/approach

A total of 129 peer-reviewed articles on Q4.0 were analyzed using IRAMUTEQ software. The textometric approach employed includes lexicographic analysis, descending hierarchical classification, factorial correspondence analysis and similarity analysis to uncover underlying patterns in the literature.

Findings

Three major clusters emerged from the analysis of Q4.0 research: (1) the digital transformation of quality management practices, (2) technological enablers of Q4.0 and (3) organizational implications of Q4.0 adoption. Key themes identified include the integration of Industry 4.0 technologies (e.g. IoT, AI and big data) into traditional quality management systems, the role of artificial intelligence in quality control and the challenges organizations face during Q4.0 implementation. This research also conceptualizes a comprehensive framework that outlines a strategic roadmap for Q4.0 adoption and integration, including the identification of antecedents and consequences of Q4.0 implementation. Additionally, the study proposes a measurement scale for assessing the dimensions of Q4.0.

Practical implications

The research proposes valuable implications for practitioners and organizations seeking to implement Q4.0 strategies as well as for researchers in the field of digital transformation and quality management. The proposed conceptual framework serves as a practical guide for effectively navigating Q4.0 implementation in diverse organizational contexts.

Originality/value

This study presents an innovative approach by applying textometric analysis to the field of Q4.0, offering an objective, data-driven perspective on the existing literature. It identifies significant gaps in research and proposes future avenues for investigation. As one of the first studies to develop a conceptual framework for Q4.0, including its antecedents, consequences and a measurement scale, this research provides a foundational contribution to the growing body of knowledge on Q4.0.

Abstract

Purpose

Islamic financial institutions (IFIs) in Malaysia continue to promote Shari‘ah-compliant business and transactions. As a result, the governors have a lot to think about before issuing any fatwa or ordinance, which impacts the majority of Malaysians. Nevertheless, the point of views from the governors have not been highlighted much. This research seeks to investigate the extent to which the conception of al-Siyasah al-Shar‘iyyah is embraced by Shari‘ah committees’ leadership roles within IFIs. The importance of al-Siyasah al-Shar‘iyyah in decision-making makes abandoning the Shari‘ah principle untenable and its significant role for IFIs in Malaysia cannot be overstated. It serves as a crucial tool for decision-making by authorities and governors.

Design/methodology/approach

The objectives of this research are attained by examining diverse sources obtained through library research, encompassing books, journals, newspapers, websites and reports. In addition, to use an analytical method to assess the role of al-Siyasah al-Shar‘iyyah in IFIs pratical, the authors collect information through interviews with five participants actively engaged in Shari‘ah committees within financial institutions, both directly and indirectly.

Findings

The research paper concludes that al-Siyasah al-Shar‘iyyah holds significance for Shari‘ah committees in IFIs when providing legal opinions. In situations where existing madhhab-based laws prove insufficient for addressing a particular issue, the Shari‘ah committees will autonomously engage in new ijtihad to ensure effective resolution of the matter.

Research limitations/implications

The implication that could have been resulted from this study is to indicate how Shari‘ah committees in IFIs structuring a set of rules and regulations embedded by al-Siyasah al-Shar‘iyyah elements to produce maṣlaḥaḥ for the ummah. This perspective is barely discussed in depth as Malaysia has unanimous scholars who work in this area. Thus, the authors attempt to bring the discussion academically and express the point of view from governors’ perspective.

Originality/value

In the Malaysian context, where Islamic banks and financial institutions are overseen by Shari‘ah committee members and the Central Bank of Malaysia, this study delves into the practical experiences of governors in carrying out the responsibilities of al-Siyasah al-Shar‘iyyah within the decision-making process. The objective is to investigate the perspectives of Shari‘ah committees when they encounter scenarios where prevailing madhhab opinions prove inadequate in addressing contemporary issues within the country.

Abstract

Purpose

The current research study aims to explore the rising appeal of creative industry for institutionally embedded women entrepreneurs of rural Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Design/methodology/approach

A qualitative research methodology is adopted to conduct the research study. Primary data is collected through in-depth interviews with 38 women entrepreneurs working in two sectors of creative industry in rural Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Findings

The research study explored creative industry as the most informal, non-traditional, low cost, flexible and convenient business sector for institutionally embedded Pukhtoon women entrepreneurs of rural KP.

Practical implications

The study draws the attention of policymakers and government to consider the informal norms in which women entrepreneurship is deeply embedded, while making entrepreneurship development policies and programs. The research study drives the attention of government toward making entrepreneurial education and training facilities easily available so that the skill and talent of women entrepreneurs can be more polished and enhanced. It further suggests that if the policymakers and Government of Pakistan take positive initiations and recognize the paramount importance, the creative industry of Pakistan has the potential of contributing toward uplifting of the economy.

Originality/value

The study helps in identifying the prevailing social and cultural norms in KP that shapes the choice of women entrepreneurs toward entrepreneurship in creative industry. It emphasizes to understand the reasons, for which women in KP, opt to open their entrepreneurial ventures in creative industry.

Abstract

Purpose

Despite their significant economic impact, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) remain underrepresented in public procurement. While previous research has identified the barriers facing SMEs in public procurement markets, a knowledge gap still exists on how these barriers influence one another in a specific context.

Design/methodology/approach

This study developed a hierarchical structural model that reveals the contextual interrelationships between 14 notable barriers to SME involvement in public procurement, based on evidence from the publicly funded healthcare sector in the UK. The data were analyzed using interpretive structural modeling (ISM) and matrix impact of cross-multiplication applied to categorization (MICMAC).

Findings

The results systematically classify barriers based on their hierarchical relationships, offering a robust theoretical foundation for understanding their nature and interconnections.

Practical implications

The findings can help scholars, government administrators and politicians in government-funded healthcare systems determine the most influential barriers to SME involvement and their causes, enabling them to build viable remedies.

Originality/value

This is the first empirical study to examine the relationship between the barriers to SMEs' public health procurement, using evidence from the public health procurement context.
