Abstract
Purpose
In response to growing concerns over the negative consequences of Internet addiction on adolescents’ mental health, coupled with conflicting results in this literature stream, this meta-analysis sought to (1) examine the association between Internet addiction and depressive symptoms in adolescents, (2) examine the moderating role of Internet freedom across countries, and (3) examine the mediating role of excessive daytime sleepiness.
Design/methodology/approach
In total, 52 studies were analyzed using robust variance estimation and meta-analytic structural equation modeling.
Findings
There was a significant and moderate association between Internet addiction and depressive symptoms. Furthermore, Internet freedom did not explain heterogeneity in this literature stream before and after controlling for study quality and the percentage of female participants. In support of the displacement hypothesis, this study found that Internet addiction contributes to depressive symptoms through excessive daytime sleepiness (proportion mediated = 17.48%). As the evidence suggests, excessive daytime sleepiness displaces a host of activities beneficial for maintaining mental health. The results were subjected to a battery of robustness checks and the conclusions remain unchanged.
Practical implications
The results underscore the negative consequences of Internet addiction in adolescents. Addressing this issue would involve interventions that promote sleep hygiene and greater offline engagement with peers to alleviate depressive symptoms.
Originality/value
This study utilizes robust meta-analytic techniques to provide the most comprehensive examination of the association between Internet addiction and depressive symptoms in adolescents. The implications intersect with the shared interests of social scientists, health practitioners, and policy makers.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to redirect attention from the symbolic significance of global iconic architecture towards exploring its impact and significance within their situated urban context; seeking to unpack whether and how a “situated multiplicity” of residents collectively shape these structures into local icons through their embodied performance and active engagement, creating an “urban meaning” rather than symbolic meaning.
Design/methodology/approach
We conducted an inductive empirical analysis of the Taipei Performing Arts Centre (TPAC), using a mixed-method iterative approach including 160 surveys, observational mapping, and 53 interviews with citizens and experts in the TPAC neighbourhood.
Findings
The spectacular image of a global icon can sometimes alienate citizens because of its design, and thus affect their embodied performance. However, we found divergent interpretations of iconicity, including residents who see economic, cultural and social benefits, and contributions to the internationalisation of local urban landscapes. Future aspirations for engagement with the TPAC are centred on the public plaza, highlighting the importance of prioritising public spaces in the design and operation of iconic buildings to foster community engagement and social interactions.
Practical implications
The study’s findings have implications for policy makers, planners and architects seeking to embed global iconic buildings into neighbourhood planning initiatives.
Originality/value
Minimal scholarly attention has been paid to citizens’ perspectives of iconic buildings. By addressing this gap, we contribute to a holistic perspective of how active and embodied practices shape the urban context and give it meaning. Furthermore, this study suggests practical ways in which such buildings can serve various populations.

Abstract
Ethical principles and practices frequently support the position that people with disability are vulnerable. Vulnerability in research traditionally infers a need for protection from harm and raises questions over the person’s capacity to consent and engage. In addition, vulnerability in ethics infers a state of permanency and one that is all-encompassing for everyone within the vulnerable groups. This construction of vulnerability in effect legitimises the exclusion of people with disability from research or monitors and restricts how people with disability can engage in research. This results in an implicitly ableist environment for research. In this chapter, which has been led by researchers with disability, we argue that there is a critical need to move beyond a popularised social construction of vulnerability which serves to perpetuate barriers to including people with disability in research. Like all terms, the traditional and popular construction of vulnerability is open to reclaiming and reframing. Under this reconstruction, what is traditionally viewed as a limiting vulnerability can be owned, openly disclosed and accommodated. Following a pandemic-inspired ‘new normal’ that supports flexible workplace practices, and in accordance with UNCRPD goals of inclusive employment and reducing disability inequity, we argue that the pathway for people with disability as career researchers needs an ethical review and overhaul. We provide readers with a practical roadmap to advance a more inclusive academy for researchers with disability.

The Golden Nugget is a family business that serves authentic Chinese cuisine in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was founded by a couple from Hong Kong, China, Alan Chan and Sandra Ng in 1957. This case is based on the succession issue facing Brian, the second-generation owner-manager of The Golden Nugget. Despite Brian's efforts to expose his children, niece and nephew to the business, he realised that none of the third generations showed an interest in taking over the family business. Upon discussion, Brian found three reasons (1) own goals and desires vs family conflict, (2) fear of sacrificing their freedom and (3) lack of work–life balance.

Abstract
Competitiveness is an important personality trait that has been studied in various disciplines and has been shown to predict critical work outcomes at the individual level. Despite this, the role of competitiveness in groups and teams has received scant attention amongst organizational researchers. Aiming to promote future research on the role of competitiveness as both an adaptive and maladaptive trait – particularly in the context of work – the authors review competitiveness and its effects on individual and team stress and Well-Being, giving special attention to the processes of cohesion and conflict and situational moderators. The authors illustrate a dynamic multilevel model of individual and team difference factors, competitive processes, and individual and team outcomes to highlight competitiveness as a consequential occupational stressor. Furthermore, the authors discuss the feedback loops that inform the different factors, highlight important avenues for future research, and offer practical solutions for managers to reduce unhealthy competition.

Abstract
The practical need for understanding and improving team resilience has increased, and more research is needed to provide an evidence-base for guiding organizational practices and policies. In this chapter, the authors highlight what we see as critical challenges and opportunities for advancing the science of team resilience. We focus on conceptual and methodological challenges involved in conducting field-based research on team resilience, as the authors believe field-based research is a particularly critical approach for advancing the science of team resilience. The authors first provide a brief review of recent theoretical work in defining team resilience. Then the authors describe key challenges that must be managed in field studies seeking to refine and capitalize on this critical area of research to provide solutions capable of supporting individual, team, and organizational outcomes. These challenges include defining trajectories of resilient team performance, understanding the consequences of repeated episodes of team resilience, formal specifications of events precipitating resilient team performance, measuring the event appraisal and communication process, and adopting measurement methods with high temporal resolution. Finally, the authors provide directions for future research to address these gaps.
