Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to map the “Desktop Research” (DR) output in Pakistan, as part of the growing field of research globally. It also ascertains the productive institutions and prolific authors along with their collaboration patterns.

Design/methodology/approach

Bibliometric techniques were used to quantitatively analyze the DR published in Pakistan. The publications from 1981 to 2021 were retrieved from Scopus. A total of 1,802 publications were retrieved and used for analysis.

Findings

Results indicated an unpredictable increase in DR output from approximately 100 to 400 records during the past five years. The year 2020 was most productive in DR research showing the excess use of secondary data by researchers in COVID-19. The focus of researchers towards DR was consistently rising. Medical journals were found to publish DR extensively. Majority of the publications were contributed by collaborative work and researchers of the USA were found as the most collaborative with Pakistani authors. Publications of single category journals, open access journals and international collaboration get more citations.

Research limitations/implications

The results of the analysis rely only on a single database, Scopus, for retrieving the publication data.

Practical implications

The study has practical implications for the policymakers and higher education development organizations to introduce the DR as a course in academic schools.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to review DR in the context of Pakistan through bibliometric analysis. This comprehensive overview provides a better understanding of the development of the field and possible practice implications.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to analyze the literature on Generation Z (Gen Z) accessible through Scopus to determine which nations, universities and writers have the highest publication and citation rates on the topic. Together with identifying the most popular keywords and trending topics over the years found in the literature analysis, the study also aims to ascertain the patterns of collaboration among writers and nations.

Design/methodology/approach

The researchers searched the Scopus database to collect and assess the literature on the topic. The paper used applications such as Biblioshiny, VosViewer, Python, MS Access, Power BI and Excel to collect, analyze and present the literature.

Findings

The analysis shows that authors prefer to use the terms “Gen Z”, “digital natives” and “social media” most often. Findings revealed that the topic is well-researched in different fields of study including social science, computer science, business management, engineering and arts and humanities from the perspective of various world regions such as Europe, America, Australia and Asia. However, the African region was less discussed in the literature, indicating the need for more research covering the context of underdeveloped nations. Moreover, the USA accounts for the greatest proportion of publications produced in cross-border collaboration, especially with China and the UK.

Research limitations/implications

This examination is crucial for academics and researchers, policymakers and businesses seeking insights into the preferences, challenges and opportunities associated with this generation to inform effective strategies and decision-making. Furthermore, by identifying key themes, trends and gaps in the existing literature, this paper can serve as a foundational study for future researchers to select the prospective research topics related to Gen Z.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study that shares a bibliometric analysis of literature published on Gen Z. This paper is an attempt to fill the research gap on the topic and also shares implications for relevant stakeholders and future research directions for prospective researchers.

Abstract

Purpose

ChatGPT is a new development in this technological era. This artificial intelligence-based tool responds to individuals’ queries and produces the requested content within seconds. Therefore, it is becoming popular among academics, the research community and library professionals. This study aims to test (through personal interaction with the tool) the authenticity of the ChatGPT’s produced records. Another objective of the research is to check the relevance between the individuals’ queries and the tool’s results. The research also intends to identify the challenges in retrieving information through ChatGPT.

Design/methodology/approach

The five researchers from different countries and organizations experienced ChatGPT by asking questions on more than 70 subjects. The responses were recorded in Notepad and converted into MS Excel and MS Access to standardize and analyze the data. The investigators consulted 11 reputed databases/sources, including Web of Science and Scopus, to assess the authenticity of the data retrieved through ChatGPT.

Findings

The findings confirmed that over 90% of results produced by ChatGPT were fake (the information did not exist in the literature). Similarly, the study sheds light on the discrepancies, such as irrelevant and incomplete information in the data generated by ChatGPT.

Originality/value

This is a unique study that shares the findings based on the different regions’ researchers’ personal experiences with ChatGPT. The researchers covered different subject areas (above 70) while asking questions to ChatGPT. The paper shares implications for researchers, students, faculty members, academic/research organizations and policymakers.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to examine how fluid flow and heat transfer are affected by the influence of hybrid nanofluids flowing across a stagnation zone of a stretching curved surface. Stagnation point flow has garnered considerable attention over the past few decades. This is because many technical applications, such as the cooling of nuclear reactors and rotating equipment divisions, rely on stagnation-point flow.

Design/methodology/approach

A thorough analysis is conducted of the impacts of several regulating parameters on fluid flow and thermal performance, including the radiation parameter, heat source parameter, mixed convection parameter, porosity parameter curvature and nanoparticle concentration. The laws governing the field of flow equations are transformed by similarity substitutions into two nonlinear ordinary differential equations, which are then solved numerically using Maple. The MR-Solve technique in the built-in Maple package was used. The MR-Solve technique was used to numerically solve highly coupled ordinary differential equation problems. This approach produced highly precise and consistent results. It also provides the best performance while using a minimum amount of CPU and the shortest phrases.

Findings

The main conclusions of this study show that axial velocity drops, while radial velocity increases as the mixed convection parameter increases. The rate of heat transmission and skin friction is higher for hybrid nanoparticles with volume fraction percentile (0.01–0.03) than for those with volume fraction percentile (0.1–0.3).

Research limitations/implications

Further research on this topic could examine a broader range of parameter values, suction/injection, entropy, mass equation, micropolar fluid, ternary hybrid nanofluid and Newtonian heating flow on a curved stretching surface.

Practical implications

By investigating a novel physical design that combines the various effect with stagnation flow, this study adds value and offers insights and prospective improvements in the discipline of heat fluid mechanics. Mathematical modeling or experimental studies in a variety of multiphysical contexts can be used to achieve this. Heat exchangers, crystalline procedures, microelectronic machines, systems for conserving energy, integrating operations, food manufacturing, climate control, purification and other engineering domains can all benefit from the geometric configurations investigated in this study. The results of this study greatly aid in optimizing thermal performance in a variety of application domains. This study is novel because it compares several volume fraction percentiles.

Originality/value

A stretching curved surface’s stagnation zone is traversed by hybrid nanofluids, offering insights into how curvature affects heat transfer and fluid flow efficiency. The results aid in the design and improvement of the energy transfer efficiencies for a range of commercial and biological purposes. The results offer possibilities for increased efficiency in a range of applications by developing hybrid nanofluid flow control methods and helping to create ideal thermal systems.

Abstract

Purpose

Organizational transformation and widescale upgradation of working conditions have resulted in disrupted work–life balance and employee health. In this era of drastic change interventions taking place, there is an urgent need to balance organizational changes simultaneously with forces of continuity. It is essential to consider these forces of continuity with respect to employees’ well-being.

Design/methodology/approach

This research employs an integrated approach, which consists of two distinct stages. In the first stage, the relevant forces of continuity are identified, validated and ranked with reference to employees’ subjective well-being. In the second stage, TISM-derived criterion weights are utilized to obtain the final ranking of these forces.

Findings

This paper has identified six forces of continuity operating in the information technology (IT) sector and constructed a unique IRP model. Findings advocate that preserving organizational culture and following performance standards were at the upper levels and were found to be the most significant forces influencing employees’ well-being.

Practical implications

The established framework for continuity forces among IT professionals offers a potential solution to the challenges encountered by organizations in mitigating the adverse change effects on the employees. This framework offers a means to boost their performance by improving organizational effectiveness through the enhancement of strategic change management.

Originality/value

This is one of the pioneering studies providing a breakthrough in applying the multi-criteria decision-making techniques in organizational behavior and human resource management. As per our awareness, this is the first study incorporating the IRP-TISM technique to recognize and prioritize the forces of continuity for Indian IT professionals.

Abstract

Purpose

Employee voice is considered an important driver of organizational success. Management practices in the form of high-performance work practices (HPWPs) are expected to influence promotive and prohibitive voices. In addition, employee appraisal of HPWPs as a challenge or hindrance stressor is supposed to mediate the relationships. Finally, the self-direction value moderates the indirect effects of HPWPs on voice behaviors through employee appraisal.

Design/methodology/approach

A quantitative research approach was adopted with data collected from 315 subordinate supervisor dyads from 12 business organizations in Vietnam. This research uses partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypotheses.

Findings

Results indicate that HPWPs are significantly associated with both types of employee voice behaviors. Challenge appraisal partially mediates the impact of HPWPs on promotive voice, while hindrance appraisal acts as a partial mediation in the HPWPs-prohibitive voice linkage. Self-direction value moderates the link between HPWPs and prohibitive voice.

Research limitations/implications

Results show that HPWPs may have both productive and harmful effects on employees. Depending on how the employees appraise HPWPs, they develop different coping strategies by raising their voices. HPWP-implementing organizations should pay attention to the employees’ values in this process.

Originality/value

This study investigates the relationship between HPWPs and employee voice based on the transactional theory of stress and coping. The mediating role of employee appraisal represents a new contribution. Finally, the role of self-direction value in the voice literature has not been widely evaluated in previous research.

Abstract

Purpose

In this study, the authors examine the relationships between market-based regulations and corporate carbon disclosure and carbon performance. The authors also investigate whether these relationships vary across emission-intensive and non-emission intensive industries.

Design/methodology/approach

The study sample consists of the world's 500 largest companies across most major industries over a recent five-year period. Country-specific random effect multiple regression analysis is used to test empirical models that predict relationships between market-based regulations and carbon disclosure and carbon performance.

Findings

Results indicate that market-based regulations significantly and positively affect corporate carbon performance. However, market-based regulations do not significantly affect corporate carbon disclosure. This study also finds that the association between regulatory pressures and carbon disclosure and carbon performance varies across emission-intensive and non-emission-intensive industries.

Research limitations/implications

The findings of this study have key implications for policymakers, practitioners and future researchers in terms of understanding the factors that drive businesses to increase their carbon performance and disclosure. The study sample consists of only large firms, and future researchers can undertake similar studies with small and medium-sized firms.

Practical implications

The results of this study are expected to help business managers to identify the benefits of adopting market-based regulations. Regulators can use this study’s results to evaluate if market-based regulations effectively improve corporate carbon performance and disclosure. Furthermore, stakeholders may use this study to evaluate and improve their businesses' reporting of carbon disclosure and performance.

Originality/value

In contrast to current literature that has used command and control regulations as a proxy for regulation, this study uses market-based regulations as a proxy for climate change regulations. In addition, this study uses a more comprehensive measure of carbon disclosure and carbon performance compared to the previous studies. It also uses global multi-sector data from carbon disclosure project (CDP) in contrast to most current studies that use national data from annual reports of sample firms of specific sectors.

Purpose

Drawing on ability-motivation-opportunity (AMO) framework, this study investigates the direct effect of innovation-oriented HRM on SMEs’ innovation performance, both directly and through intrapreneurial behavior. Besides, the study assesses the moderating role of innovation-oriented leadership in the relationship between innovation-oriented HRM and intrapreneurial behavior.

Design/methodology/approach

A two-wave dataset collected from 183 SMEs was used to test the proposed hypotheses by partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).

Findings

Findings suggest that innovation-oriented HRM positively impacts SMEs’ innovation performance directly and through intrapreneurial behavior. Evidence also confirms that innovation-oriented leadership positively moderates the effect of innovation-oriented HRM on intrapreneurial behavior.

Research limitations/implications

Through the AMO framework, this study advances our understanding of how the interaction between innovation-oriented HRM and leadership fosters intrapreneurial behavior, ultimately contributing to superior innovation performance in SMEs.

Practical implications

The study recommends that SMEs implement innovation-oriented HRM practices to encourage intrapreneurial behavior and achieve superior innovation performance in SMEs.

Originality/value

Limited research has addressed the contributions of innovation-oriented HRM and leadership toward realizing strategic innovation objectives. Our study offers valuable insights into the functions of innovation-oriented HRM and leadership in stimulating intrapreneurial behavior, thereby enhancing the innovation performance of SMEs.

Purpose

One of the most innovative materials available today is polyester resin, which finds application in a wide range of industries, including consumer products, automotive, aircraft, marine, construction, sports and renewable energy, due to its impressive mechanical properties and low cost. In recent years, significant progress has been achieved in the development of polyester resin composites. This paper aims to provide an overview of the recent advances in the field of polyester resin composites.

Design/methodology/approach

The review introduces the properties of polyester resins and the fabrication techniques used to prepare polyester resin composites. It provides an overview of the reinforcement materials such as fibers and nanoparticles that are commonly used to enhance the properties of the composites. Recent advances in the use of fillers such as nanocellulose, graphene and carbon nanotubes are also discussed. This work highlights the latest developments in the functionalization of polyester resin composites, which aims to improve the properties of the composite materials for specific applications in diverse fields such as aerospace, biomedical and energy. It highlights how collaborations worldwide, business and academia are working together to advance polyester resin composite technologies.

Findings

The study emphasizes how urgent it is to adopt sustainable practices, which, in turn, is driving research into polyester resins that are recycled and biobased to create a circular economy. Constant advancements open up new possibilities for application development and improve performance, such as nanotechnology and smart materials. Furthermore, businesses are being revolutionized by sophisticated production processes like 3Dimensional printing and Internet of Things integration, which enable mass customization and real-time monitoring. These partnerships advance the sector and encourage the use of polyester resin composites in environmentally friendly applications. The remarkable mechanical, thermal and chemical capabilities of polyester resin composites are highlighted, showcasing their importance in a range of applications.

Originality/value

The study is a major step toward a sustainable tomorrow since it highlights the potential of polyester resin composites to build a more durable and environmentally friendly future. This review paper summarizes the recent advances in the development of polyester resin composites, highlighting their potential for advancing technologies in various fields. The knowledge gained from this review paper will undoubtedly aid researchers in designing novel polyester resin composite materials with tailored properties for specific applications.
