Abstract
Purpose
Labor process theory explains that employers prefer technology and systems over employees for efficiency gains. However, the mechanisms explaining the influence of technology and systems on different work-related employee outcomes are still a question mark. The purpose of this study is to test a mediation mechanism explaining how workforce analytics influence the work fulfillment experience of employees through work volition.
Design/methodology/approach
This study collected dyadic data from 55 HR managers and 350 employees serving in 55 different subsidiaries of Multinational Corporations in Pakistan.
Findings
The statistical results demonstrate that workforce analytics negatively affect fulfillment at work. However, work volition may reduce the negative relationship between workforce analytics and fulfillment at work. This study also found a significant but negative relationship between work volition and fulfillment at work.
Originality/value
This study found that integrating the use of workforce analytics with the work volition of employees is critical for positive employee outcomes.

Abstract
Purpose
The usage of social media at the workplace has become an undeniable reality, yet the role of social media use (SMU) in job-related outcomes is still unclear. This study uncovers a chain process through which SMU may strengthen job security perception of employees through social media disorder (SMD) and networking behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
This quantitative study used ratings of 197 Emirati students enrolled in a higher education institution located in United Arab Emirates (UAE). The respondents were professionals serving in different public and private organizations in UAE.
Findings
The statistical results supported a significant serial mediation of SMD and networking behavior between SMU and job security perceptions of employees.
Practical implications
This study offers implications for employees and their supervisors about the usage of social media for strengthening their perceptions of job security.
Originality/value
This study contributed to the existing stream of research on SMU to explain a chain process through which employees may benefit from social media to strengthen their perceptions of job security.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine how employees’ perception of the ethical conduct of their leaders affects their level of green innovation and environmental performance. Therefore, this study investigated green innovation as a mediator between ethical leadership and environmental performance, specifically within the context of Pakistani restaurants.
Design/methodology/approach
Data was collected from the frontline employees using a convenience sampling method having a sample size of 213 respondents. The hypothesized model was analyzed through structural equation modeling using SmartPLS v3 software.
Findings
This study shows a (i) positive relationship between ethical leadership and environmental performance, (ii) positive association between ethical leadership and green innovation, (iii) positive relationship between green innovation and environmental performance and (iv) green innovation mediates between ethical leadership and environmental performance.
Research limitations/implications
This research suggests that top management of the restaurants needs to focus on exhibiting ethical leadership behavior, thereby fostering green innovation practices that will improve the environmental performance of Pakistani restaurants.
Originality/value
The current study is novel as it investigates the association between ethical leadership, green innovation and environmental performance, specifically within the context of Pakistani restaurants.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to investigate how employees’ perception of the ethical conduct of their leaders affects their level of job stress and job satisfaction in the restaurant industry, specifically in the context of Pakistan. Therefore, this research investigated the relationship between ethical leadership and job satisfaction, and job stress as a mediator between ethical leadership and job satisfaction.
Design/methodology/approach
This research is based on a quantitative method, employed a survey strategy, utilized a cross-sectional research design, and data was collected using a convenient sampling technique. In all, 236 questionnaires from the front-line employees of the restaurants were used for data analysis. Initially, normality (univariate and multivariate), demographic description, descriptive analysis and common method bias were computed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS v23) software. Moreover, direct and indirect effects were conducted using SmartPLS v3 software.
Findings
Results of this research indicate a (i) negative relationship between ethical leadership and job stress, (ii) positive relationship between ethical leadership and job satisfaction, (iii) negative relationship between job stress and job satisfaction and (iv) job stress play a mediating role in the relationship between ethical leadership and job satisfaction.
Research limitations/implications
This study highlights several theoretical and practical implications, thereby providing more insight into how job satisfaction can be maximized in the restaurants of Pakistan.
Originality/value
This research is novel, as it highlights the direct and indirect effect of ethical leadership behavior on job satisfaction, specifically in the context of the restaurants of Pakistan.

This study explores the ethical challenges of integrating derivatives into Islamic finance. It aims to reconcile the principles of Shari’ah law with modern financial practices. It seeks to understand how derivatives, characterised by their complexity and speculative nature, can align with Islamic moral values, ensuring financial stability and social equity.
Design/methodology/approach
Adopting a doctrinal legal research methodology, the investigation delves into primary and secondary sources encompassing the Quran, Hadith, contemporary scholarly articles, and regulatory documents. The approach enables a comprehensive analysis of Islamic legal texts and principles, assessing their applicability to derivatives within a framework emphasising Shari’ah compliance and ethical integrity.
Findings
The research identifies pathways for the ethical integration of derivatives in Islamic finance, highlighting the potential of these financial instruments to enhance economic justice and societal welfare when aligned with Shari’ah principles. It uncovers regulatory frameworks and innovative practices that can mitigate ethical dilemmas, ensuring derivatives contribute positively to the Islamic financial system.
Originality/value
This paper offers original insights into reconciling financial innovation with Islamic ethical mandates by applying a doctrinal legal research methodology to studying derivatives in Islamic finance. It contributes to the academic discourse on Islamic finance and ethics, providing a nuanced framework for developing Shari’ah-compliant derivative products that uphold the principles of risk-sharing, transparency and social equity. Abstract
Purpose
The authors examined how employee led exchange benefits the organizations. Specifically, the authors aim at investigating the mediating role of family supportive supervision between employee performance and taking charge behavior. The authors further examined leader-member exchange (LMX) as a boundary condition between employee performance and family supportive supervision.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors collected data from 295 employees and their supervisors working in various public sector organizations of Pakistan on a convenience basis. Specifically, data on family supportive supervision and LMX was collected from employees; whereas, data on employee performance and taking charge was collected from their supervisors between June–September 2021.
Findings
The statistical analysis reveals that high-performing employees are reciprocated by the high family-supportive supervision which increases their work-life balance and they further reciprocate by showing a propensity to take charge. In addition, LMX is noted to strengthen the association between employees' performance and family supportive supervision.
Practical implications
This study explains how managers can extend the stream of employees' performance by highlighting the role of family-supportive supervision and LMX. The managers through high LMX and provision of family-supportive supervision can boost the employees' outcomes from job performance to extra-role performance (i.e. taking charge).
Originality/value
This study adds value to the existing body of knowledge by considering performance as a predictor of various organizational-level consequences. Recent studies have considered the negative consequences of employees' performance, while the positive aspect has been called for an investigation.

Abstract
Purpose
Grounded in the Social Exchange theory, this study focuses on the perception of digital leadership and innovative work behaviors. It also examines the complex effects of leader-member exchange, learning orientation, and innovation capabilities.
Design/methodology/approach
We undertake a quantitative approach using a two-wave longitudinal field survey of 440 employees and managers from various backgrounds working in the automobile industry in France.
Findings
The findings based on Structural Equation Modeling reveal that the perception of digital leadership leads to innovative work behavior while leader-member exchange moderates between the perception of digital leadership and learning orientation. The findings also support the mediating roles of learning orientation and innovation capabilities.
Originality/value
The study contributes important policy suggestions, raises queries for additional investigation, and suggests theoretical and practical implications for leadership and organizational environmental factors to foster innovative work behaviors in organizations.
